Puerto Vallarta last year was too commercial. Zihua snowbirds tell us that Zihua is like PV thirty years ago. Still very much the amazing Mexican vibe, not over run by big box stores, just independent, locally owned stores and restaurants.
The people are awesome, we felt safe with the three levels of policing -- State, Municipal and Tourista police.
Lots of music, amazing places to eat (El Vado, Casa Elvira, El Duke, La Travasia) at reasonable prices. Two months this year, we have booked 3 months for 2025! Come join us for Sailfest in February and Guitarfest in March!

I loved that the other tourists were of older population, pre or current retirees, lots of couples and people who have been vacationing in Zihuatanejo for years. There are fisherman retirees and there is nice surfing up the coast at Playa Linda. We got surf lessons in town from the local surf shop in downtown Zihuatanejo.

Very busy down town area, safe, cheap transport with collectivos, many choices of restaurants and bars. Travellers must investigate location of accommodations to ensure you are in a comfortable quieter area.
Beaches in down town area are not recommended. Must travel to the cleaner and safer beaches or take water transport to Los Gâtas.
Many festivals of interest; Sailfest, Guitar fest, Carnival, etc.

Clean and safe city!
Clean and safe city! Beautiful views everywhere along the coast. Pretty hot and muggy even we were visiting in January. We did lots of swimming to cool off. Locals are super friendly towards us tourists but few speak any English. Learn some basic Spanish before your trip.
Only cash mostly accepted it must be pesos unlike some tourist town that accept dollars. ATMs available in town and are safe. Great place, much quieter than the well known resort towns in Mexico. Tourists were mostly Canadian retirees. Zihua is a fishing village so expect great seafood in every restaurant and if you want meat you have to find it. For tacos I recommend El Carboncito (pic added).

Perfect vacation.
Perfect vacation. Beautiful bay, ideal weather and ocean water temperature, nice people, very good food. We ate at three places: restaurant on the beach called Gaviota, Thompson hotel restaurant Hao, and Coconut's restaurant in town. All three were very good, but Gaviota is the best. Zihuatanejo has lots of taxi cabs so getting around is very easy. Ocean fishing is very good and quite affordable there. We caught lots of black tuna and a few Mexican needlefish.

Zihua is somewhere I would highly recommend.
Zihua is somewhere I would highly recommend. Super friendly, clean etc. However, Villas Miramar was very disappointing, what was advertised was not what we got. It was not ready when we arrived, with kitchen being not usable, dirty, not usable utensils, coffee pot disgusting. Took a few days to get cleaned up but room was too hot to use the kitchen. Fridge broken off and on for first week. Lost food and frozen goods. Could not get circulation in living area, even with a borrowed fan running 24/7. Throughout stay, things went missing from our room including cash. Police report was filed and management basically called us and our translator liars.
Our hosts Vicky and Alfredo were amazing! They were very welcoming and understanding of our needs. We felt like part of their family! The room was immaculate thanks to Mary. She was available daily and either cleaned, swept or removed our garbage. The pool was awesome and the surrounding garden very well kept. We could easily walk to either Playa La Madera or Playa La Ropa and many little restaurants within the neighborhood. The centre of town including the market and other stores to buy groceries were also close by!
Great location and short walking distance to the beach and tons of restaurants. However it was very quiet in our villa.
Our villa was very large and the kitchen was very well equipped. Large area outside with a full kitchen and dining table and other seating. Staff were nice and pleasant. It was our 1st time to that area and we were very happy with this hotel and would stay again!
The staff speaks English and they were helpful during my stay. The rooms and hotel were very clean and quiet. The Hotel Las Salinas is located close to the center of the town so it’s a short walk to most of the places I wanted to go to. Overall, it’s a great value and I plan on staying here again on my next visit to Zihuatanejo.
Breakfast was delicious and a good value. The staff was amazing!!! Luis “Chai” and Carmen treated us excellent. Their service exceeded our expectations. The hotel was peaceful, quiet and the views were gorgeous! The room we had was incredible and spacious. The showers were wonderful and large. Plenty of storage and relaxing space.
Small hotel with a tiny pool A variety of rooms I had room 12 which was small but en-suite. The shower was super hot one of the best so far on my trip. Bed was hard-ish but suited me. The young lad at reception was really helpful. He helped me get an extension to my phone. There was a shared fridge and microwave. Very useful.
Very close to beach, (2 minute walk). Very quiet at night. Loungers around the pool were extremely comfortable, pool quite large & clean, a little cooler but very refreshing as it is very hot in Zihuatanejo.
The king size bed was very comfortable, air conditioning in the bedroom worked well.
Great location the beach, close to downtown (easy walk) as well as several very nice restaurants in the area. The beach restaurant attached to the hotel is excellent. We were able to have food delivered to our room balcony one night, which made for a very intimate dinner for the two of us.
This is a small boutique hotel with lovely views a short walk from the beach. The room and pool area were really nice. The little restaurant open 7-12 for breakfast was great! Staff were exceptionally welcoming and efficient. This is a quiet and relaxing place with only 7 rooms.
Cute, boutique hotel in the heart of Zihuatenejo, centrally located for an authentic Mexican experience but still close to the beach and good restaurants. Secure, off-site but close by parking for our motorcycles. Very friendly staff.
Nice beach front hotel, depending on which side of the hotel your room is located. Good fans and air conditioning. Good wifi. Nice location. A nice swimming pool. View of the beach. Very peaceful. Helpful and friendly staff.
The top floor studio is cozy and has everything you need. It it also right in the heart of Zihuatanejo. You have everything you need, shops, restaurants, beach, Oxo, bars etc literally 3 min away.
Clean and comfortable old hotel in centro. The staff were very nice. We were able to leave our bags prior to check in since we arrived very early. Right across the street from the bay.
The view, the size of the accommodation, the cleanliness and the pool area. A new bar down the road that serves some food. Combi service into town and Ixtapa. New lounges and umbrellas.
The restaurant was closed. The palapas where gone and there was no where to sit on the beach in front of hotel. Renovating, but I was not notified when I booked.
