The lagoons were out of this world gorgeous and relaxing. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant, kind and gracious. The restaurant options were remarkable considering the small size of the town. We didn't explore much outside our hotel and Centro Bacalar, however there were many options for great day trips and tours nearby. It was easy to fly into Chetumal and take a taxi to Bacalar. We ate many times at Xant Ha since we stayed at the Maya Bacalar Hotel, and it was fantastic! El Manati had fantastic food and the art gallery with gift shop was a bonus. La Playita has incredible atmosphere right on the water and the service was excellent. Food here was just OK. We had a great time getting to know the owner at Sweet Child of Wine, and she served us tasty tapas as we sipped local wines. It is a beautiful lake located close to Chetumal.
It is a beautiful lake located close to Chetumal. The tour on the lake takes you to the different cenotes, with time to swing in those colorful waters, it is really beautiful. We found a nice restaurant called Waah, the food was delicious, all dishes are prepared from scratch. Excellent. The city is small and peaceful. There is a fort San Felipe to visit.

We enjoyed being able to swim from the hotel dock. We had a car and drove to restaurants. Restaurants were in walkable distance if need be. You can easily see lake Bacalar in 2 full days. A boat tour of the lake does it all.

Whatever we needed he helped; the laundry was closed, so he took care of it, we wanted to book a boat tour, he arranged it, we wanted to find the best way to the border to Belize, he drove us! The cabana too is spacious, so comfortable, giant bathroom, two beds, fan and decent aircon, kettle, coffee maker and mini stove. PLUS the free bikes. They were a godsend.
