Akumal is a nice town with a very nice beach and a great option to observe sea turtles in the Turtle bay, do a diving course or just chill at the beach. Unfortunately, you can't get to any of the beaches for free, all of the entrance is paid. We found the local guys who were shouting at us and always wanting money for something or trying to sell us something quite disturbing and some of them even rude to us as foreign visitors. The prices the beach are very high in the proximity od the beach. At the end of our stay someone ransacked our friend's room and soon after stole my handbag when we were sitting in a restaurant in Akumal town. I think there is a thief mafia operating around.

There is lots to Akumal not just a restaurant and a little beach. There are beaches, many different restaurants and cenotes. Tami and Elliot will help you understand the taxi system and also how to hop the combis (Public van service) that are cheap and easy to use. They are not chicken busses. There are cenotes everywhere. Some very tiny and some meandering through the jungle. An easy one is Cenote Azul. No real snorkeling but a beautiful place. Charge $10 dollars or much better rate if you pay on pesos. Use pesos as often as possible. Get pesos from the ATMs they have the best conversion rate. The condo beach is a bit of a walk, it who doesn’t need walking, but the cenote flows out into the ocean. Great a snorkeling. Big variety of fish. You can see the transition layer between fresh and salt water. I think our favorite place where we went twice was La Buena Vida restaurant on Akumal beach and after dinner walk up the beach And hitchhiking a golf cart ride back to the highway for a taxi ride ride north back to Sirenis. Most everyone speaks tolerable English but be respectful and learn some rudimentary Spanish like bathroom, beer, check please, thank you and please. Whew. Can you tell we had a great eight day trip?

It was a good place for our troop to convene - 7 in all.
It was a good place for our troop to convene - 7 in all. We had some fun - particularly at the shows. The food was good but not great. The staff was great. The beach was a disappointment - full of seaweed and rocky. Trucks on the beach at 7am sunrise a big turnoff. I would not return unless the beach situation improves.

I didn't spend time in Akumal proper- most of the time was on the resort, but there seemed to be a LOT of options for activities on that stretch of road between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, so as a starting point, finding a resort in Akumal is a great location. My friend and I took a 30min taxi to Playa del Carmen and a 20min ride to swim with dolphins. We also went with the wedding party to Tulum and a cenote which was gorgeous and that trip was very short as well. Lots to do in the area!

The town has its own beaches and a lagoon, you can swim with turtles, rays and lots of fish. Cenotes are all over the place. Playa del Carmen and Tulum are only 25 mins away by car. Most visit kentun-chi!!!!
Cozy and green hotel area with lots of birds and funny animals. The service was excellent and friendly. The evening program was of high quality and the a la carte restaurants had excellent food. The buffet food was also good and the tables were overflowing with different dishes. The renovated Premium Superior room was wonderful. It was spacious and functional and had two bathrooms/toilets.
The hotel was close to Akumal's turtle beach, where we went snorkeling. Historical sites and cenotes are also easily accessible from this hotel.
This is a special place tucked away in the jungle about 3 miles out of Akumal town/beach. The location really does need a car to access. The cabanas are well spaced and private and have a large comfortable bed and sufficient facilities to make breakfast or an easy meal. The pool is very pleasant and to sit by the cenote is other wordly. The grounds are lovely and we enjoyed listening and seeing lots of different birds. Our hosts were very warm, kind and welcoming and made our stay here very special.
Amazing hotel! we had a great time here, it was all we expected and more. Food was really good, many different options to eat at the buffet or the special restaurants. we did not get reservations for restaurant but it was easy to get a table. we don’t have anything to complain about to be honest. our room was awesome and really close to the beach (we loved the beach). I will say this is a great option for you to stay, we will repeat (maybe changing to another hotel in the complex).
Amazing hostal in the pueblo of Akumal. The best thing is the pool on the rooftop and the delicious breakfast. Rooms have big lockers, enough space and comfortable beds. Bathrooms are always clean. About 15min walk to the beach make it a great place to stay. Some small restaurants and cafes are close by. Friendly staff and they have a diving school included which makes it easy to organize dives.
Great hosts with knowledge of the area and helped understand transportation options and help us select locations and experiences that best fit our wishes. Everything from groceries to the Cenotes that might interest us the best. Even gave us a lift to a recommended restaurant on the beach at Akumal. Excellent view of the bay with the beach at your feet. Great place. Great hosts!
Excellent facilities that are strategically spread out making it feel like a smaller more empty resort. Excellent service and everyone makes you feel very welcome. Spa is great and so were the pools and food. The beach its on is stunning and has massive turtles you can snorkel with. This was our second time and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Lovely place to stay and everyone is welcoming. Rooms were comfortable and the private cenote was a lovely bonus to our stay! It is easy to do a lot from there with the town not far and Akumal beach just a 20/30 min walk away. Free bike hire was useful and the tour of the sanctuary was fantastic, Jano is very passionate and is a great tour guide.
Perfect location in Akumal. Right in the center of the Pueblo and 2minutes drive to the beach. The owners are a really nice couple who were really helpful, thanks again.
The room was perfect with a balcony and private bathroom, and we had a nice little balcony. Our stay was really GREAT!
A beautiful unit that was spacious and modern. Excellent location with pool and ocean right out the door. The pool was great. It was quiet and relaxing. It was much better than we expected. Swam with turtles just a short stroll down the beach.
Our lovely hosts were very helpful and took their time to explain everything we needed. The hotel is located in a small town, where we felt very welcomed! The room was comfortable and rather quiet at night (we stayed only one though)
The stay was great I loved the all inclusiveness, the pools that overlooked the beach, food was good. They had chocolates and a bottle of champagne for the birthday girl. The fact we could take the covid test on site was great!
Beautiful location, not big but nice beach, pool for children. Very good food, all inclusive for the good price, no lines for drinks in pool bars. Nice shows every night. Everything was perfect.
We really liked the large living space and a bathroom for each room. Nice view of the bay from our balcony. Beachfront property. Liked the quiet community, not on the beaten path.
The staff was warm and welcoming, the property was as advertised. An easy 10 min bike ride through the small town to the beach or even quicker by Tuktuk. Loved everything!
Rooms was comfortable and spacious
Lots of pools and many different restaurants and bars
Many options to have fun
The beach is beautiful and right infront of the hotel
Las Villas Akumal is clean, well kept gardens, friendly staff and very well maintained facilities.
Loved the pool and it was near a beach, so pretty much perfect.
Very clean property and well organised. Part of Bahia Principe hotel resort. Owner issued a code for security gate and I felt quite safe around the property.
Excellent location right on the beach and within easy walking distance of all the amenities in Akumal north.
Lovely decor inside the room and bathroom.
