The location and surroundings were peaceful and absolutely stunning. I could look out at the lagoon all day long and we spent many hours at the dock. Loved being able to use the kayaks, lagoon swings, lounge chairs and SUP's. The bar near the lagoon was perfect and service fantastic. Love how the hotel and buildings were built into the natural surroundings. We had all we needed in our spacious rooms, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms well appointed. The restaurant was exceptional with breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we happily had several meals here. The kids particularly enjoyed having taco day sampling and comparing each one. Service was superb and the staff were kind, polite and prompt. Would happily stay here again!

The room itself was a good size, and very clean, with coffee facilities and a nice bathroom with good shower pressure. The pool area was lovely, with a few loungers / seats, and there is filtered water available whenever you need it at reception. The location is spot on, only a few blocks from the lake and opposite Mr Taco (a great restaurant).
The beach club is a big plus for free access to the lake along with 2 hours free kayaking. Although it’s basic and around 15 mins from the hotel, it was a lovely place to relax for the day.
The staff were friendly, and really helpful when we had questions.

The lagoons were out of this world gorgeous and relaxing.
The lagoons were out of this world gorgeous and relaxing. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant, kind and gracious. The restaurant options were remarkable considering the small size of the town. We didn't explore much outside our hotel and Centro Bacalar, however there were many options for great day trips and tours nearby. It was easy to fly into Chetumal and take a taxi to Bacalar.
We ate many times at Xant Ha since we stayed at the Maya Bacalar Hotel, and it was fantastic! El Manati had fantastic food and the art gallery with gift shop was a bonus. La Playita has incredible atmosphere right on the water and the service was excellent. Food here was just OK. We had a great time getting to know the owner at Sweet Child of Wine, and she served us tasty tapas as we sipped local wines. Enjoyed our meal at Nao Sushi, great location on the water.

It is a beautiful lake located close to Chetumal. The tour on the lake takes you to the different cenotes, with time to swing in those colorful waters, it is really beautiful.
We found a nice restaurant called Waah, the food was delicious, all dishes are prepared from scratch. Excellent.
The city is small and peaceful. There is a fort San Felipe to visit.

Bacalar is a small town, not much to do, the lagoon is beautiful but the tours are expensive and with time the massive turism will damage the lagoon. They don't have the infrastructure to protect nature from garbage and people waste.

I had love every minutes of my stay.
It s easy to walk around.
The hostel Lahar douwtown has a super friendly vibes and it really made it fun to be in Bacalar.
We loved absolutley everything. The stuff is so kind and nice they helped us with tour reservations and everything we needed. They also have two dogs and two cats and they are really sweet. Hotel has 3 rooftop terrace, one has view over bacalar lagoon. Rooms are clean and spacious, ours was facing inner garden and pool. They have board games in the lobby which you can play there or thake them to your room. Netflix is also a really nice adition in case of bed weather. You have complementary water and coffee aveliable all the time.
Casa Poblana exceeded our expectations. It is a quiet and very comfortable place, just a bit outside of the city, away from any noise (rare in Mexico) but just 10 min walk away from the centre of Bacalar. The family managing it were always helpful, kind and a delight to speak with. In the room the beds were comfy and the shower hot and with good pressure. You can also see the lagoon from the terrace. The only thing I would have improved is the kitchen, which was a bit basic but nice to have.
Would be back without question!
The central location is fantastic and you can easily walk to the fort museum, restaurants and lake front. We took the ADO bus to Bacalar and the bus station is an easy walk of about 15 minutes to the hotel. The rooms are very spacious and functional and it was great having a fridge in the room. The breakfast was simple but enough to choose from to satisfy different tastes. It was nice having the bar handy as well for an evening drink by the pool. Staff were also very welcoming and friendly.
Terrific hotel with an exceptional staff and well-located in Bacalar. The property itself is very nice, with clean, highly functional rooms and attractive common areas. The ownership and staff are even better - very friendly and welcoming and with lots of good recommendations. As an example of this kindness, when she heard me say that I planned to walk to the bus station, the owner immediately volunteered to drive me- really such a nice, unexpected gesture.
The hotel is ideally located in the center of Bacalar close to restaurants, bars and shops. The hotel is very clean and the decoration is beautiful. The staff were very nice to us and always available to answer our questions or give us tips for our trip. The owner in particular is a very warm and welcoming person and very knowledgeable about what the region has to offer in terms of activities, sightseeing and nature.
The structure of the hotel is so beautiful and very unique especially the pools they are stunning! Breakfast in the morning was delicious with a lovely view and the staff are all super friendly. The hotel organised a boat trip on the lagoon for me and my partner and that was probably our highlight of the whole trip in Mexico! Bacalar as a whole is a beautiful place and the local restaurants are also great.
The place is magical paradise in the middle of the jungle, which makes it very unique and definitely the highlight of our stay in Mexico! We loved the sunrises at the lagoon and the hangouts at the dock. The lush greenery makes it chilly during the hot days. We loved that they also had vegan food options. The cabins are simple yet beautiful, with a roof window which lets you see the stars at night. 12/10!
Nice boutique hotel . Very nice pool. Beds are hard, but after first night we asked forfosm May to be applied on the top of the mattress , which made beds much more comfortable. No blankets in the room. We asked front desk and were provided with blankets. Breakfast is cooked to order and was very good. Hotel located in walking distance to many shops and restaurants.
My favourite stay in the whole of Mexico. This place is amazing and everyone should stay here during their time in Bacalar. Lovely private apartment to yourself. The family who run it are amazing, so helpful and lovely. They couldn’t do enough for us. Very clean and comfortable space and the location couldn’t be more perfect if you tried. 100/10!!
We really enjoyed our stay here. Rachel (the owner) is such a welcoming and friendly person, she was always there if we needed anything. Our room was perfectly cleaned and very spacious. We had drinking water, the breakfast was great and it's not too far from the center. Overall one of our best hotel experiences in Mexico!
Best hotel in Bacalar no doubt. Akalki isn't only a hotel but it's Holistic Center where you can heal. Everyone there made us feel like a family. Thanks to Jaime, Tania, Héctor, Mireya and Jan for a wonderful experience for me and my wife
We will be back soon!
The room, atmosphere, people and food, everything was amazing!! would definitely stay here again when visiting Bacalar and recommend it to others! The staff was very lovely and helpful and the way the hotel and its facilities looked were breathtaking
breakfast service extremely slow, needs improvement . great hotel and staff, my stay was amazing. comfortable rooms, great a/c, good location by the public pier, 5 min walk. Bacalar is a magical town, I would stay at Galuna hotel again.
This hotel is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! A Moroccan style in Mexico. The location is walking distance from the lagoon and into town and nearby restaurants. However the property is magical, a true hidden gem in little Bacalar
The staff was amazing, helpful, and with great tips about where to eat and go around the lagoon.
The rooms were very spacious, with good king-size beds (something rare in Mexico), with mini-fridge, AC and clean.
Stayed there 3 nights - the longest stay in my 3 weeks trip around Mexico)
Very helpful and heart-welcoming staff (though they speak almost no English). Cheap though good bikes for rent onsite. Nice design.
Everything went very well, the staff was absolutely amazing and very kind. The location and facilities were exceptional. We had a wonderful stay at Casa Lamat, which is now our favorite hotel in Mexico !
absolutely incredible. we spent almost all of our time in Bacalar in this hotel, because we loved it so much. food was fantastic. staff were the best. we will certainly be coming back
