We enjoyed being able to swim from the hotel dock.
We enjoyed being able to swim from the hotel dock. We had a car and drove to restaurants. Restaurants were in walkable distance if need be.
You can easily see lake Bacalar in 2 full days. A boat tour of the lake does it all.

Bacalar is a small town, not much to do, the lagoon is beautiful but the tours are expensive and with time the massive turism will damage the lagoon. They don't have the infrastructure to protect nature from garbage and people waste.

The Lagoon is beautiful! So refreshing.
The Lagoon is beautiful! So refreshing. I did a sailing trip, laid out on docks reading then jumping in to cool off. I adventured to Los Rapidos which is a great way to spend a day. Went to two different beach clubs. There are some really good restaurants for both budget and non-budget travelers, I highly recommend (La Trattoria Del '46 and La Cabanita Grill & Cantina) for the latter. A lot of attractions are within walking distance, depending are where you are staying. If you're traveling through Quintana Roo, Mexico, I would highly recommend a trip to Bacalar!

Bacalar is very trendy, but it is still very authentic.
Bacalar is very trendy, but it is still very authentic. There are no big buildings (yet) and you won't find a McDonald's. Instead, there are lots of small, pretty hotels (check our Casa Hormiga), restaurants (check out La Cabañita Grill & Cantina, Ciricote, Mistura, and Hijos del Cocho), cafés (check out Café Tito and Mango y Chile), and bars. The lagoon is amazing! You shouldn't swim in it with sun cream on though. We recommend bringing long-sleeved UV clothing if you are UV-sensitive. Getting around is easy, as the town is easily walkable.

Bacalar is refreshingly quiet, tranquil and pretty.
Bacalar is refreshingly quiet, tranquil and pretty. The lagoon is beautiful and the locals really friendly . It’s nice not to feel like everyone is out to get as much money from you as they can. The lagoon has areas where it is free to enter as well as the paid clubs. We tried both and there are positives for both. The bars and restaurants are good with quite a mixture making it affinity matter what type of traveler you are.
We loved absolutley everything. The stuff is so kind and nice they helped us with tour reservations and everything we needed. They also have two dogs and two cats and they are really sweet. Hotel has 3 rooftop terrace, one has view over bacalar lagoon. Rooms are clean and spacious, ours was facing inner garden and pool. They have board games in the lobby which you can play there or thake them to your room. Netflix is also a really nice adition in case of bed weather. You have complementary water and coffee aveliable all the time.
During our one night stay in Bacalar, we wanted to go on a boat tour on the lagoon. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, so we thought of cancelling the trip. When arriving at the front desk, Santiago convinced us to go, regardless of the weather. We couldn’t been more grateful! It was spectacular! Without him we would have cancelled one of the most beautiful things we ever saw.
The overall vibe in the hotel is very relaxing and calming and we would highly recommend hotel Aires to anyone. Say hi to Santiago for us :)
This is by far the best place we stayed in Mexico. We nearly stayed longer! The room was gorgeous, well decorated, comfy, spacious, and the hammock outside was amazing. The pool was gorgeous and the location is great - less than 10 mins to the ecological park and to the town centre. The staff were so friendly and helpful - the owner came over to give us recommendations about the town, and they helped us booked an amazing boat tour of the lagoon. Breakfast was nice. We really didn't want to leave!
Everything. The whole staff Gabby, Carlos, Sergio, Daniel, Nati, and Daniella were phenomenal. The copal welcoming ceremony was super cool. The activities like SUP Yoga and Aerial Yoga were ones you wouldn't easily find at any resort throughout Mexico. And the views facing the lagoon were undescribable. I'd highly recommend this place for people looking for a serene getaway
Amazing room and staff very friendly. The view is amazing and the bed very comfortable. We were able to enjoy a nice tour in kayak. Everything went well. We have been traveling for two weeks in Mexico and this was the best hotel by far. Be aware though that there are no restaurants, amenities or supermarkets nearby but you can order food delivery.
The hotel has a great location and was great to have both AC and a fan.
The man on reception was SO helpful with all our requests and we appreciated his kind manner.
It was great to have filtered water easily accessible at all times. Also great to have a deadbolt on the door which we haven’t found in many places in Mexico.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Rachel (the owner) is such a welcoming and friendly person, she was always there if we needed anything. Our room was perfectly cleaned and very spacious. We had drinking water, the breakfast was great and it's not too far from the center. Overall one of our best hotel experiences in Mexico!
Hotel Wayak is in a beautiful and very quiet area of the lake. it’s still close to the town of Bacalar.
our family loved relaxing on the lounge chairs, the hammocks on the dock. The girls enjoyed the kayaking and swinging over the water. just a perfect spot. The owners and staff were all absolutely wonderful.
The room was nice, clean and comfortable. It felt like a real hotel room (as opposed to a cheap hostel). The AC was good, there was a big window and the shower got hot. The bikes made the location easy to get to everything and the ecological reserve two blocks down was awesome to swim in the lagoon
I loved this property and overall Bacalar!
great location and amazing staff, hotel had great facilities, high maintenez and great breakfast! Dalia was amazing and super helpful. I highly recommend ordering the outsourced massage services and doing one in the open palapa, great experience!
It's a cosy little hotel run by a family. They are all very nice and helpful. They give us a lot of tips what else to do and see in this part of Mexico. The garden with the pool is beautiful. The pool was clean an well maintained, our kid's loved it. Would definitely come back again.
Whay you see on the pictures is what you get. Very nice rooms in practically a new building. Great beds, great shower and good location. Close to the center and the many beachbars you can find around the lake. We rented the bikes from the hotel to explore Bacalar which was fun.
I can give only maximum points! There wasn't anything to complain about, honestly . Actually, the nicest surprise was to find cafe capsules in the room. First time in Mexico. I had a nice coffee to enjoy! Do not stop doing it, please.
Bacalar was our last stop in Mexico and we really enjoyed our stay. We felt like we were somewhere in an oasis. The breakfast was excellent and we were even able to rent a bike for free. We definitely recommend visiting this place.
I love mexico, especially these small communities that are more authentic to Mexican life. This stay was my favorite in Mexico that I’ve done and was even better than a similar stay in Costa Rica. I simply love Amaca
The property has direct access to the lake, which is essential in Bacalar if you want to swim, since it seems stuck in pre-revolutionary landlord Mexico. Friendly staff, good recommendations, beautiful private pier.
The hotel is cute, very chill atmosphere, nice staff. It is very well located, it is a short and easy walk to the center of Bacalar where you can enjoy the activities and restaurants/bars.
One of our best stays we had in mexico in 2 weeks. Directly in front of a public swimming place in bacalar. Nice and clean hotel with friendly staff. Beds and breakfast are also good.
