The lagoons were out of this world gorgeous and relaxing.
The lagoons were out of this world gorgeous and relaxing. Everyone we interacted with was pleasant, kind and gracious. The restaurant options were remarkable considering the small size of the town. We didn't explore much outside our hotel and Centro Bacalar, however there were many options for great day trips and tours nearby. It was easy to fly into Chetumal and take a taxi to Bacalar.
We ate many times at Xant Ha since we stayed at the Maya Bacalar Hotel, and it was fantastic! El Manati had fantastic food and the art gallery with gift shop was a bonus. La Playita has incredible atmosphere right on the water and the service was excellent. Food here was just OK. We had a great time getting to know the owner at Sweet Child of Wine, and she served us tasty tapas as we sipped local wines. Enjoyed our meal at Nao Sushi, great location on the water.

It is a beautiful lake located close to Chetumal.
It is a beautiful lake located close to Chetumal. The tour on the lake takes you to the different cenotes, with time to swing in those colorful waters, it is really beautiful.
We found a nice restaurant called Waah, the food was delicious, all dishes are prepared from scratch. Excellent.
The city is small and peaceful. There is a fort San Felipe to visit.

We enjoyed being able to swim from the hotel dock. We had a car and drove to restaurants. Restaurants were in walkable distance if need be.
You can easily see lake Bacalar in 2 full days. A boat tour of the lake does it all.

Bacalar is a small town, not much to do, the lagoon is beautiful but the tours are expensive and with time the massive turism will damage the lagoon. They don't have the infrastructure to protect nature from garbage and people waste.

I had love every minutes of my stay.
It s easy to walk around.
The hostel Lahar douwtown has a super friendly vibes and it really made it fun to be in Bacalar.
Great people, great hospitality!
Beautiful design especially the outside areas, pool.
You can tell that the place is being looked after with people who are happy to be there and do their best for their guests. They dont treat you like a number like in numerous places in Mexico, they personalize the interaction which is highly appreciate. Little souvenir at the end which adds to it as well!
When we return to Bacalar we will try to go back.
Thank you team
The property is conveniently located about one block from the lagoon and about two blocks from the town’s central plaza. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. If you arrive on the ADO bus, take a taxi to get to the hotel. You can walk, but it’s hot and far. The staff is very accommodating and arranged for my departure taxi to Chetumal to pick me up at 7 in the morning. They also gave me a map of the town.
We were traveling through Mexico with 3 small kids and this was our most favorite accommodation. Spacious appartement with a great view over the lake. Only 3 cabins so a lot of privacy. Also direct access to the lake via the private dock. Paddle boards are available and for any food or drinks the restaurant of the campsite is just next door. The owners are super friendly and will help you with everything you need.
The receptionist was a young lovely girl, always with a smile and happy to help. Also the kitchen staff was very friendly. Breakfast is not included, there are several breakfast possibilities in the city center, which you can reach by car or taxi. Or you can have breakfast in the hotel, which we did. The food was really nice, maybe a little bit expensive for Mexico, but still okay for West European standards.
A lovely Boutique Hotel in the center of Bacalar. The walking distance to the ADO bus is only 15 minutes.
The bed was comfortable and the breakfast in the hotel was good.
It is also located very close to a good Restaurant called La Playita. A great place on the lagoon to go for a drink or some food.
I also liked the lagoon boat tour the hotel recommend us. It was with Iselitas Tours and is worth ever cent.
The structure of the hotel is so beautiful and very unique especially the pools they are stunning! Breakfast in the morning was delicious with a lovely view and the staff are all super friendly. The hotel organised a boat trip on the lagoon for me and my partner and that was probably our highlight of the whole trip in Mexico! Bacalar as a whole is a beautiful place and the local restaurants are also great.
Location is great, only a block and so away from the lagoon and a couple blocks away from the ecological public entrance. There is a nice rooftop area with sun loungers, tables, rooftop pool, and it is where they serve a great breakfast! Common courtyard on the ground level with a water cooler for guest use was great. Each level of the hotel has an inside common area to hang out in. The staff were great
Staff is adorable and makes everything for you to enjoy your stay in Bacalar. Atmosphere is very relaxing! Nice room, a lot of attention put to decorate the hotel (nice garden, multiple terrasses on the roof, etc.). Easy to park just in front of the room and quite central at the same time (one block from the lagune, 5-minute walk to reach center of the city).
Fantastic old house converted into a hotel. Very nice location, big room with a huge and comfortable bed (not common in Mexico). Super quiet hotel, great to rest and chill in wonderful bacalar. the hotel it's family owned, which is always very nice, and was very clean. 10 minutes walk to the centre of town and 2 great cafes for morning breakfast.
The hotel has a great location and was great to have both AC and a fan.
The man on reception was SO helpful with all our requests and we appreciated his kind manner.
It was great to have filtered water easily accessible at all times. Also great to have a deadbolt on the door which we haven’t found in many places in Mexico.
Everything! Especially breakfast and the the location in the jungles. The room has so lovely design, please tell you manager thanks for his work. Also your chef is amazing, the restaurant at your hotel was the best, which we have visited in the whole Mexico.
Very clean and very quiet hotel. Very relaxing !
It’s very big and it’s in the middle of a forest with a wonderful view on the lagoon
You can rest there in the hamacs or go kayaking
Just remember that it’s outside Bacalar (5 min drive)
I can give only maximum points! There wasn't anything to complain about, honestly . Actually, the nicest surprise was to find cafe capsules in the room. First time in Mexico. I had a nice coffee to enjoy! Do not stop doing it, please.
Bacalar was our last stop in Mexico and we really enjoyed our stay. We felt like we were somewhere in an oasis. The breakfast was excellent and we were even able to rent a bike for free. We definitely recommend visiting this place.
Very central and confortable Hotel for a short stay to visit Bacalar. The central plaza is a few blocks away, easy access to the lake too and very good restaurants nearby. The room is cozy and clean and the staff extremely helpful!
One of the best places I've stayed in so far in mexico - Delmar is a great host, and wonderful to chat with. The hostel is fairly small and has a great atmosphere to meet other travelers. And the (included!) breakfast was amazing!
Nice location close to Bacalar's city center. The room was really big and the hotel is equipped with an independent electricity generator (it's really very useful given the frequent blackouts in Bacalar)
