The hike to the cross was amazing. Best trail markers I have EVER seen! Mostly clean and shaded trail. The restaurants are really good on the other side of town by the WHITE church (not the pink one). People are friendly and more speak English here than you find in the south. I highly recommend the cafe next to the white church.

I liked that Matagalpa was in the mountains, and easily accessible by bus from Managua. I stayed for 2 days and would've stayed another day or two to do some more hiking, especially to the top of the mountain with the cross on it. I loved the local bakeries, restaurants, market, and mountainous views. It was a relaxing and peaceful stay.

Matagalpa is such a beautiful city surrounded by nature.
Matagalpa is such a beautiful city surrounded by nature. The weather is the best, you can walk in town or go to Selva Negra to the rainforest. There are coffeshops everywhere and the coffee is truly amazing.
Casa Vieja is located on a side road, which makes it quiet and perfect to rest, but it is also in a central area of the city, just a few blocks away from restaurants, bars, banks and only a block away from the supermarket. It has been my best choice in Matagalpa. I am sure I will book a room with them next time I am in Matagalpa for business or leisure.
The owner Mr Joaquim and staff members Telma and Debora were outstanding and super nice.
Amazing hotel and friendly staff. The breakfast was delicious, surprisingly including a delicious nacatamal and local coffee. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Overall the hotel is centrally located and within walking distance from the center of town. I'll definitely stay at this hotel again. Thank you Hotel San Jose for the amazing hospitality.
The room we stayed in was comfortable and clean, it also had quite a bit of space. The bathroom was clean and the kitchen was very well equipped. Candilla was a super amazing host!! She was really kind and loved having conversations with us while we cooked. She was also really helpful in knowing how to get to different places around Matagalpa.
Agualí is a beautiful place in the hills above Matagalpa. The nature is great here, and it is well worth going up the hill to spend time here. It is an added bonus that staying at Agualí supports Agualí’s environmental education programs for children and adolescents. We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights there and hope to return someday!
No breakfast even though the ad said it was given.
Room smelled like disinfectant.
Seemed like a hotel for prostitutes.
Old man owner very assertive/aggressive -- kind of rude on two occasions.
S6taff was helpful and kind, but complained when I asked them to do me a favor
I was told the window opened to fresh air -- it did not.
A great place to stay in Matagalpa. Good location and very helpful staff. They organised a local guide, Marlon, to come to talk to us about possibilities for guided walking tours in the area. Marlon was excellent, with extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna. Would highly recommend doing one of his tours.
The property is in the central of Matagalpa and almost everything is walking distance. There are many locations for food nearby. The staff was super friendly, everything was very clean. Breakfast was 100% Nica with gallo pinto. Chepita, Ana, Jairo and Maria are so welcoming that they give a family feel.
The host family is super friendly and helps with question what to do and how to get there by bus! the breakfast was delicious and the house, bedroom and bath are very clean. also the area is quite nice and calm! much better than the city center!
best place to have a good time in Matagalpa!
This is a lovely hotel right in the middle of downtown. An easy walk to the park and a lot of restaurants.
The staff is wonderful, friendly, helpful, and accommodating.
Highly recommended. Beyond my expectations.
Centrally located (and yes, on a noisy street), safe, very clean. Really good breakfast (there are more options) and very nice staff. Good WiFi. Parking in front of the hotel. Overall good value for the price.
The hotel was beautifully clean, the bed was very comfortable, everything in the room works properly and is in good condition. The staff were very accommodating. It is also in a great central position.
The hotel is very well maintained and clean. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Nice area on second floor balcony to sit and relax with beautiful views of the city.
Nice rooms, comfortable beds, the car is parked behind doors, safe. The breakfast was good and staff nice. A wery nice hotel for Nicaragua for a good price!
Great Location and good to walk nearest from restaurants, cafes, breakfasts.
Great In Transit to go to other tourism area to visit outside of Matagalpa.
