There's something magical about this little beach community.
There's something magical about this little beach community. The vibe and energy are great- restaurants and bars with excellent food & drink everywhere. Locals and tourists are friendly and helpful. We know a tiny bit of Espanol but were able to communicate with no issues, and English is spoken more prevalently than I had expected. Can't wait to visit again!!

It is a busy town, with lots of surfers and retired folks living or visiting. Lots of motorbikes for getting around. Some excellent restaurants along the beach front including Henry's Iguana Bar, and Maggies' Restaurant up the street. Good fish tacos at little kiosk. Great beach walks, lovely sunsets and a few hikes to do. One to the Jesus protecting the bay and the other to the lighthouse on the opposite side of bay. Wear good shoes for those.

Great little beach town with numerous bars and restaurants with amazing sunset views. Very walkable even in flip flops. Not a bad meal to be found! Lots of fun places to watch American football if you like that.

everything is walking distance, you can get to the know the town easily just walking around. I liked Vivian restaurant, nice place, clean, friendly staff.
the beach was full of trash... plastic trash, cups, bottles, cookie wraps, cans... trash all over the sand and in the ocean and for some reason nobody seems to care. it was very impressive and quite sad.
Looking Good Surf House was a great place to stay!

The town wasn't as bad as I was expecting!
The town wasn't as bad as I was expecting! pretty calm in the day and evening, not sure about after that! we were there 2 days and for us that was just right. We went to Remanso beach one day and Maderas beach the other. Rented boards at each and tried to surf! Maderas waves were better, at least when we were there in April. We were at the beaches for about 5 hours each day. I didn't love the fact that Remanso had no shade and neither seemed to have much for facilities, except the few bars/restaurants that you kinda had to eat/drink at in order to have some shade or a shower or somewhere to hang out. Not really my favourite scene. SJDS itself was small town seeming in the center and easy to get around walking and lots of food options and the beach in town was great to explore with the kids, swim or watch sunset. It's easy to get in and our of either on bus from Rivas or taxi- 20$ from the Ometepe Ferry for 4 of us. 25$ to the border organized through Casa Oro.

In the town there are a lot of open sewers and the smell is bad in many places. There is a lot of trash here and there. There is a lot of trash around the beach. The food is ok, the prices are alright. The better prices are away from the beachfront.
Tamarindo is a much nicer and cleaner beach. The Nica's need to clean up the trash and the open sewers.

Breakfast was great, really enjoyed the traditional Nicaraguan breakfast. Their pancakes were fluffy and yummy. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. The property is nicely tucked around a corner of a street where it’s not too loud or not too quiet despite being very close to all the restaurants. Loved their porch for eating breakfast in the morning and the pool is a nice hang out spot. Very easy to get around and even catch the bus to Rivas. ATM is nearby and main attractions too.
The property is beautiful and the staff were amazing. Great place to be a little further from the downtown area of San Juan Del Sur to enjoy a peaceful view.
The property is on top of a hill and not every taxi driver can get up it, especially during rainy season. The hotel staff does have recommend taxi drivers and the were very available.
We also enjoyed the two dogs and cats around the property. They were all very friendly and we made great friends with Taco the cat.
Right in the center of San Juan del Sur, every commodities are in walking distance. Javier is incredibly helpful and available for any questions you may have. They are a lovely family business, very friendly and welcoming. The hostel is cosy and has all the basic things you may need. We were staying in a private room with AC, perfect for the few nights we spent there. I would go back :)
The hostel is value for money. The dorms are spacious, clean, beds comfortable. They have a fan for each bed, so it is great for when it gets hot. Breakfast is included which is amazing for the price. Location is super close to everywhere you would want to go to in San Juan Del Sur. There are many common areas to relax with comfortable hammocks and chairs. Recommend !
This place has a good location, and for the price bracket in San Juan del Sur it is reasonable.
Free WiFi worked well
Nice cold shower to cool down
Use of kitchen etc
Overall it is fine for the price as long as you spend most of your time out and about. I wouldn't call it an especially nice place to stay but it's secure and there's a roof over your head.
Breakfast was amazing as all the food was. The common area of the pool and restaurant to hang out in was fantastic. Meet some great travellers. No Children until 15 allowed and we loved that. There is a a shuttle a few times a day into San Juan Del Sur that was handy for barring into twin. Great walking path down to the local and fantastic Playa Maderas.
The place itself is not nice at all, not very charming or anything, but has the necessary things (beds, bathrooms, mirror, fan) and is what you can expect for the price. It does the trick for a cheap place to stay. No AC, we didnt encounter much in Nicaragua, but the fan above the bed was very powerful and kept us cool throughout the night which was great.
Best place we’ve stayed at so far on our month long Nicaraguan adventure! A short walk to the beach and near plenty of restaurants and stores. The property was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The WiFi was strong and made working remotely seamless. There is also a nice kitchen on the property if you prefer to make food.
This location was great if you want to escape the craziness of San Juan Del Sur. There's a nice beach right beside the property which is great if you're learning to surf. The beach is quiet and chilled.
Faith and James were lovely hosts. Really nice people and lovely to talk to. It was really quiet too which is what we were looking for.
Great Hotel , super friendly staff , great room , fully equipped kitchen with everything u need and super clean ...terrace upstairs with rocking chairs and bean bags and a lovely cool breeze..
Rob the owner and Enrique the Manger are so helpful with great recommendations.
Right in middle of town but really peaceful at night
Great Value, large room with AC, the pool & gardens maintained & unexpected shuttle service to beaches & downtown sister hotel, Oro Hostel. helpful staff & extra service. eg coffee before opening & great breakfasts.
Top location with most amazing views on the jungle and bay of San Juan del Sur.
Best vegan food we’ve had in Nicaragua.
Friendly staff and great yoga rituals.
A really friendly and kind family. If you want a taste of Nicaraguan life in the centre of San Juan del Sur, this is the nicest family to experience it with.
The hotel was very nice and right on the beach. it is one of the best breakfast spots in town. I loved the balcony and the ability to watch the sunsets.
