Everything was to my test. Staff was very helpful and lovely
Unique, arty, traditional and lively pretty much sums up the great mix that the island of Tromsø has to offer. The city is home to the unique Arctic Cathedral, an array of pubs, cafés and an energetic street culture.
If you’re planning a day of sightseeing be sure to visit Tromsø Museum, Polar Museum, the University Museum of Tromsø, Mack Brewery, and the Arctic Alpine Botanic Garden.
The city’s main square often holds a variety of markets and its streets are lined with colourful and old-style buildings and houses. Tromsø is one of the best places to view the amazing colours of the Northern Lights.
Nicknamed the ‘Gateway to the Arctic’ due to being a launching point for polar expeditions, Tromsø provides numerous activities such as hiking and kayaking during summer, and skiing and dog-sledding in winter, all in a backdrop of eye-catching scenery.
Tromsø is easily accessible from major cities such as Tallinn, Oslo and Helsinki and Tromsø Airport has direct flights to various European destinations. Check-out Booking.com for a selection apartments and hotels in Tromsø and throughout Norway.

Looked like an interesting town but sadly I had planned for just an overnight stay to catch the Northern Lights. Wished I could have stayed longer especially since the hotel Scandic Ishavhotel was nice.

Tromsø is breathtaking and definitely worth visiting, regardless of if you're chasing the polar lights, or just want to explore the city and the area during the day. The city is in close touch with nature and offers variety of different activities. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is going there during the Easter holidays (as I did), since a lot of stores, museums, restaurants, etc. tend to be closed.

Tromso is nice town with plenty of places to eat and drink.
Tromso is nice town with plenty of places to eat and drink. The restaurants offer a mixture of cuisine including local delicacies. There are a reasonable amount of shops offering local goods. It is an easy walk across the bridge to visit the Cable Car, definitely worth a visit to enjoy spectacular views. We arranged for a Northern Lights Tour which was fantastic. A comfortable, luxury coach drove us an hour outside of Tromso to an area with no light pollution, we had perfect weather so did not have to move on as the Northern Lights offered us the most wonderful light show for a four hour period. We were supplied with Hot Chocolate & cookies which kept us warm. The driver would have driven to another location if the weather had not been clear but on this occasion it was not necessary.

Tromsø is an amazing city.
Tromsø is an amazing city. It’s not as small as one may think.. has the right amount of grocery stores, cafés, bars etc. Quite a good nightlife, lots of young students/ tourists around so you’re never alone during solo travel! Tourism and guided activities are exceptional, they provide all the equipment, meals (in some cases) and transportation. Overall you will never be bored in Tromsø, I reccomend everyone to visit even if you’re not a sporty person there’s an activity for every fitness level.

Tromso is in the middle of aurora ring.
Tromso is in the middle of aurora ring. We are here just for northern light. During our visit in March, all road is damped and muddy, not easy to get around. Find a place to stay in warm weather for watching aurora. Getting to mountain by cable car is my favorite activity to see Tromso at night with aurora.
We loved staying at Marthas Apartments. The view was amazing! We even saw the Northern Lights from our living room window on the last night of our stay! The rooms were spacious and the furnishings, including the bed, were very comfortable! Best of all was the host family. Daughter Christine gave us a fine introduction to the area, with day trip suggestions. Host Are was especially helpful in getting us to our Northern Lights adventure on the night of a huge concert in Tromso! Martha provided a spacious living space! Fabulous.
Lovely new, clean room suitable for our family of four. Beds were so comfortable and the showers were hot with great pressure. Staff were super friendly and helpful and the breakfast was amazing, one of the best I’ve had at any hotel. Breakfast runs late too, to accommodate guests who have been out late seeking the northern lights. We had an early flight out and there was a mini buffet with items that you could eat in the foyer or take to-go, which was greatly appreciated.
Our stay was perfect and wonderful. Perfect house to see the northern lights, quiet and with everything you need for a pleasant stay. The views are stunning. Kristin has been a great host, thoughtful and solving any questions for the best our stay. It has been a romantic experience, beautiful and I recommend 100%. You will love the environment, its tranquility and above all if you can see the aurora borealis over the house, as we saw it. Awesome ❤️🇧🇻
The bed and room was comfortable, no complaints there. The breakfast was also nice, but really enjoyed the tea & cake hour as well as a light dinner, all included! The staff was helpful and pleasant and we had no issues. The best part of the hotel is the sauna and jacuzzi on the roof with a great view of the water! The hotel is also centrally located in Tromso to provide a good location to walk to any museums, activities, and restaurants there!
Absolute perfect location got lost finding it don't know why it was straight forward. Got bus from airport easy. Everyone was so friendly added bonus free tea coffee hot chocolate biscuits and make your own waffles what a bonus for free had with norways brown cheese and jam amazing. So quiet and warm. Bed sheets and towels included much better experience than a hotel just perfect def recommended shared bathroom and toilet so clean and private
Super experience staying at MelisHome Aurora Observatory! John is really flexible, and was so helpful in giving me and my partner lifts to and from here, even with short notice! The place itself has all you need, plus the added bonus of being away from Tromso city and away in the valleys, by the fjord means that you can step out and likely to see the northern lights - we saw them on our first night! A perfect stay, thank you so much John!
The location is the best, where it is right at the harbor and is close to everything. the staff is friendly, and the room is very clean. we had a room with the water view that you could see the harbor, the bridge and the Arctic Cathedral. The airport express bus has a stop right next door. We took the city bus from the airport that costs about 4 $USD per person to the city center with only 3 minutes' walk to the hotel.
The property was amazing, close to the airport .. direct transport by bus. The owner Stavros was so lovely, helping out with everything. He does the trips to Fjord and Northen lights at a much reasonable price than others and is very accommodating.
He treats people like his own guests and wants to give them the best experience in Tromso :)
You can also see the northern lights from the house
We stayed in the standard twin bedroom. We loved the design and the cosiness of the room and the common areas. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was squeaky clean. The hotel is conveniently located close to supermarkets, bars and bus stops, including the airport bus stop. We also loved the self-check-in (it was our first time in Norway so we didn't know that could be a thing).
The location was great for walking around and seeing the town, shopping, and getting to and from the airport. It was also easy to walk to the pick up location for the northern lights tour we went on. Also, the breakfast was delicious with great options and was conveniently served until 11am on the weekend. We were able to check-in to our room early and check-out was not until 12pm.
Lovely hostel, super nice and friendly with prices that are incredible for the latitude. If you want a place which doesn't provide luxurious comfort, but a great environment, with good common spaces, nice workaway volunteers and anyway all you need in terms of accommodation, kitchen and services that's the best choice in north of Norway.
Gorgeous hotel in a great location. Our sea view room had the most incredible view through wide, panoramic window. We even saw the northern lights just from the hotel window on our first night!
Very comfortable room, under floor heating in the bathroom was lovely.
Delicious breakfast with lots of choices!
Probably the best hotel in my 15 days in Norway this year and it was not the most expensive of them. I enjoyed a lot the intelligent design of the room, small but perfect and probably the best location in Tromso. Perfect check-in system.
The apartment was really nice and comfortable. It has a laundry mat and the hosts were very helpful in helping us to find a place to see the northern lights. We were able to walk the whole town.
Check in was efficient especially after 24hrs of travel. The hotel was beautifully designed and modern. Breakfast with the view was amazing. It’s also conveniently located next to the airport.
The apartment was really nice and cozy! No construction noises. It was nice to have kitchen. The size of the apartment was nice compared to the room sizes of the hotels.
Location was great. Nice, clean, quiet and safe. It was everything I was looking for. The staff were kind and helpful. This hotel helped make my stay in tromso amazing
