Niue is a beautiful, peaceful destination with amazing untouched coastline. The people are very friendly and welcoming. The coastline is rocky, so don’t expect sandy beaches. The blue water over the shallow reefs is beautiful.

Great area to visit or base your stay from.

Great area to visit or base your stay from. Locals bi lingual and happy to help. Pristine water with lots of fish life at jetty, with absolutely zero plastic seen in the water over 10 days... Island areas including Alofi are Largely green with coconut palms and under developed due to small population. Very clean and and safe area. Wife left her bag on a table and 1 hour later it was returned intact, not a cent missing... that won't happen when you travel in lots of other places of the world... Expensive due to high freight costs for everything but that's how it is... Definitely visit local markets to try local food... its safe and not too expensive. Monday, Wednesday and friday early mornings when the locals bring in fruit coconuts food and crabs to sell... Visit many of the local art and craft markets stalls around Alofi and the island for unique prints or handmade items... Not much mass produced in China Buy at least a couple of souvenirs to take home... Travel for the experience, not the cost... Niue around has the clearest, cleanest inshore water I have seen in 20 years of travelling... Swimming however is an experience, as there are not many easy beaches... Not sandy beaches here.. coral and limestone rock pools.. making water shoes a necessary and much loved item here, even the locals use them... Avetele is probably the easiest beach but most involve moderate to serious tracks and paths to access. Local govt has rated them on a 1 easy - 3 difficult and some only accessible at low tides, but be aware, plan and it is a great place to visit. Visit Niue and Alofi and experience the laid back life of the locals, learn a few greetings and enjoy the serene beauty of this, island nation nicknamed as "the ROCK of the Pacific...

It's beautiful but very humid glad we had air con and a ceiling fan, I highly recommend hiring a little car or truck because of the roads and get a hand held fan lol you also need to get a sim to connect with the world best thing is is that telecom is open 24/7 and it pays to get duty free in new Zealand to take there as its quite expensive for alcohol, take lots of light clothing it's so hot and you will end up showering at least 3 times a day plus swims. The foods not to bad for its prices all meals mostly under $30.

We loved the fact that Alofi/ Niue is so uncommercialised and clean. This is a place to fully escape; very chilled and low key. No mobile roaming, minimal shopping, no major nightlife that we experienced (except the Washaway on sunday night) unless you count crab hunting! We took the orientation tour, and felt it was worth our time and money. Breathtaking natural beauty is around every corner on Niue, and the life in the water is *amazing*. No need to dive, as there's so much to see snorkelling but I'd go back to dive in a heartbeat. Not the most kid friendly place waterwise - best to go with other kids, and be sure that the kids are skilled enough to feel fairly confident in the water. There are few "beaches" and the ones available are very affected by the tide. All the caves, chasms, swim holes and sea tracks are stunning. One must be sure on their feet; sometimes the track down to the sea takes balance and careful navigation! This is not an accessible island, umfortunately. I went out to swim with the whales with the crew from Dive Niue - knowledgeable, professional and lots of fun. Small boat, so everyone can enter the water at the same time. Got lots of whale and dolphin time, even got serenaded by some male humpbacks. Just magic. I'd have gone diving if it wasn't for a nasty sinus infection. We self catered at Taloa Heights after spending the first few nights at the Scenic. The basics food wise are easy to find (tip - get eggs at the petrol station!) but there's little in the way of fresh fruit and veg (which you can bring). Dinners were eaten out - Fa Lalafa was a favorite. Kai Ika was good for sushi and Gills Indian was pretty fab. Crazy Uga for coffee. Bring sturdy shoes/reef shoes and a wetsuit, get a car, explore!!

Alofi is lovely for a week, but by then you've seen everything there is to see on the island, and visited most places 2x, which you need to do because all the special spots marked on the tourist map are totally different at different tides. But if it's rainy and you can't sit and relax on the beach, a week is enough.

Very convenient and centrally located in the heart of Alofi! it’s a super plus Niue Visitor centre, Uga Cafe, G-mini mart, Telecom, quaint shopping complex, Utuko sea track, market are just a stone throw away! I explored the island by mountain bike rented from the Niue Visitor centre which was a one-stop shop for souvenirs.

It's good value for money, but the place needs a facelift and a good scrub. Great to have a lounge for lounging in, and good location central Alofi, but nothing has been done to the place in the 8 years since I last stayed and it shows. Great beds tho. very comfortable.

Great central location in Alofi near a sea track, good value for money, cheerful and homey - just what you want for a low key backpackers lodge. Helena was super helpful getting us sorted with bike rentals from some locals. I'll be back for sure.
