Akaroa is a must-visit township, it has some amazing cafes/restaurants, and the food is great and varied. Some of them have both inside and outside seating so it is lovely to take advantage of that on a nice day. There are also some great wee shops to visit where you can find a treasure of two. We found a gin-tasting cafe that is a must-visit when you are there and also an Indian Restaurant whose food was amazing. All the shops and cafes are within walking distance if your accommodation is in town. There are some great walks to go on and we also went swimming with the dolphins which is an experience I highly recommend when you are in Akaroa.

We loved the quaint historic town.
We loved the quaint historic town. We loved its French flavour. The cafe’s and restaurants outstanding especially Ma Maison where we had the best meal ever. The food, the flavours and the welcoming staff, outstanding! We had breakfast at The Common, again fabulous. We loved walking round the bay to the quay. Everyone was so friendly and happy to stop and talk. At the end of the quay was the prize, the beautiful pearl shop, an absolute must to visit. We can’t wait to return. Already planning a longer trip.

I have been a regular visitor as my French ancestors founded it. The only thing that stops me coming more often is that dangerous-feeling hill up and down. Nice, quiet (mostly) place that focuses on food, events and nature. Need to put in a lot more effort to add more genuine French flavour to shops and activities. A simple Bonjour is not too difficult. Akaroa's true French nature is being dumbed down by new arrivals who are only interested in commerical gain.

I had heard about the bottle nosed dolphin cruise but it was cancelled, as the night before there were ferocious winds. The trip to Akaroa was pretty hairy because of the winding mountain road, overlooking deep valleys and there were no guard rails. However, the scenery is very nice, although the town itself is a true tourist trap.
Fantastic location with a great view out the window. Nice and quiet, everything needed for a short stay. Bedrooms were super comfortable, but not a lot of space for luggage in the room so ended up with suitcase in the lounge. Check-in/pick up of the keys was at a hotel 1 minute walk up the road, so nice and easy. Entrance to carpark is a very narrow arch under the apartments, but once through plenty of space for turning and parking etc. Nice clear signs on where to park.
Sharron & Noel went that extra mile to make our holiday extra special. The historical home was set in romantic gardens - trees 160 years old - native birds. Loved sitting under the verander taking coffee with home baking. The breakfast was a dream berries, pastries and those amazing cooked breakfast. Our hosts had thought of everything to make our stay extra special.
What a gem! We had a fabulous stay here - the location is perfect for exploring the town, the room was super clean and comfortable, and breakfast was amazing. We especially loved spending time in the sitting room with the fireplace going - so cozy! Jacqui and Tim are wonderful hosts. If you're planning to visit Akaroa, look no further for the best accommodation!!
Exceptionally beautiful surroundings, remote yet close to town…. The bird song here at dawn was one of the highlights of my trip. The hosts are friendly and attentive. The view is from a high hillside overlooking Akaroa, very special. The lodge room was entirely unique, especially the sweet loft room ( for fit adults or children only) .
We arrived on Labour Day public holiday and found the town humming with tourists. It had been 22 years since I was in Akaroa and once late afternoon arrived, then the tourists returned to Christchurch.
This property has its own waterfront area so it was great to see all the different varieties of birds on the rocks and in the water.
HONESTY! As I got a message from bookings after I checked out that the house cleaner found my phone in my room. After a few calls with hotel staff, they went an extra effort to help get the phone returned to me. Many thx for that.
My stay at the Grand Hotel was pleasant, and the food was good.
We needed a room in Akaroa as attending a workshop, so location was very good for us. We arrived quite late after a long drive from Nelson, and the host was so kind to still be available and have the bar open for an end-of-day brew. Parking right behind the house was a breeze.
Stunning place! Beautiful rooms with a kitchen and dining room that make you feel at home.
The garden is beautiful, full of fruit trees, and so serene.
Cor and Margo went above and beyond to make us feel welcome 🙏
Just a quick drive to Akaroa!
Generous continental breakfast provided with toast, cereals, spreads, teas and coffees. Charming decor and comfortable beds. Had an awesome one night stay for 2 days exploring akaroa. Only a short 15 minute drive to Akaroa harbour from Bellbird.
Host was excellent Lynn made sure we got to the prperty okay. Cottage a hidden gem, a nice romantic getaway. Location peaceful and handy walking distance to Akaroa. FIre was a nice treat and the cottage was warm and cosy.
This was the first Top 10 Holiday park we have visited in New Zealand. It was well beyond our expectations. The grounds were immaculate and the facilities (bathroom, kitchen etc) were clean and complete.
Location of The Bruce Apartments is perfect. The apartment we stayed in (25) had a lovely wee garden courtyard area with outdoor seating and a view of the sea. Everything we needed was in the apartment.
so unique, location at center of town, comfortable size, very clean, the coffee and pastry around the corner, happy hour at the corner bar, 2 parking spots with unit. Nice spot to be in Akaroa.
Reasonable sized room with outdoor seating at both front and back. Up to date facilities.
Good location to walk into town and hotel bar with food only 50 yards away
A delightful base for our exploration of Akaroa and the peninsula. Very good accommodation and the garden was an unexpected bonus. Very friendly and welcoming hosts.
