The penguin sanctuary was lovely and we saw penguins during the day in the nests. The evening tour was fully booked so get in early if you want to do that.. The steam punk museum was suitably odd and they were very friendly when we got caught in a downpour and stayed sheltering there while they were closing. Plenty of chance to see seals basking on the foreshore. The victorian precinct however was just a street - possibly more exciting if you are from New Zealand of Australia but we live in a property older than anything on the street so not really that exciting if you are from the UK or the older cities in the US

A very pleasant surprise, was recommended to stop here by a friend, so glad we did. A quirky place , so much history. The Victorian quarter alone was wonderful. Steampunk also worth a look. Easy to walk around the town too. Ps some hilly streets 😀

This is a hidden gem of a town with unique stone architecture and history. I am biased because I worked here for two months years ago. Be sure to visit the garden and use the pool facilities if you have the time. And to top it off it is close to the Moreike Boulders... a must see.

Fun museum, stylish restaurant, fab cafes, beautiful stylish shops, great brewery just below Thames street where all the beautiful architectural buildings are. Hosted by a N Zealander of Scots origin. Great character. Great accommodation at the Whitestone accommodation situated over an antique shop and art gallery, an£ hosted by a lovely couple. Lovely small safe bay for an earl6 morning private swim.

Love Oamaru - I have family there so go often.

Love Oamaru - I have family there so go often. Always a must is Riverstone just outside oamaru and a castle tour and meal there and the shopping - magnificent. Of consequence there is also.the historic precinct with Miss Purple and Donna de Mente gallery.and don't forget to grab a cronut (croissant/doughnut meld) from harbour st bakery Cucins has wonderful food and well worth a visit. What I would like to make booking.comaware of is that it popped up after I had booked that I could pay $x more for a private bathroom.. I had stayed there b4 so wZ aware it would be odd not to have private bathroom. I checked with motel and the bathroom was private - what if I had pushed thst button to pay more ? Likely would be no wiser which sucks really

Steampunk HQ is sensational. As is the Victoria District.

Steampunk HQ is sensational. As is the Victoria District. Great 'whitestone' structures everywhere. ATMs, supermarkets, cafes, take-aways offer a great choice. Penguin parade is sensational. Great arty / souvenir / gift shops in Victoria District. Good little local cinema. Great beaches to walk along. Easy drive to Moeraki Boulders and Elephant Rocks. Easy drive to Dunedin. Friendly pub and cafe staff. A great little town overall - would love to go back.

Needed to stay the night en route back from Pink concert in Dunedin. Arrived in Oamaru at 1.30am, tired and ready for bed! Opened the door and voila! We were greeted by the warmth of the heat pumps, lights were on ready for us, and the decor was simply beautiful. We fell into the gorgeously presented beds and all - 2 adults and 3 young ones, -and all slept like logs. I feel like making an excuse to go to Oamaru again just to stay there, and have time to really enjoy the harbour views and generous outdoor living area!

The host was super nice. He showed us around the house and even showed us the best view rooms. Top floor middle rooms the best room. Breakfast was included. The bed was really comfy. It's really close to everything that you can walk there. Parking is available on site. Activities: I recommend the steam punk and a look around the park and sea side. I do not recommend the penguin viewing in Oamaru. Better to go to the one in Dunedin.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Vicarage in Oamaru. Our hosts, Jacqui and Niel were very welcoming and helpful. Our room and all the facilities were very comfortable, clean and spacious. The little personal touches and general attention to detail add to the lovely ambience. Great location and on-site parking - everything the town has to offer is within walking distance. Can highly recommend! Thank you for a very pleasant stay :-]

The studio is clean, artsy and full of creative objects, bed and pillows super comfy. Bathroom is large and very clean. There's a kattle, coffee, tea, toaster and microwave and a nice little area where to have your meal. Room has both a heat pump and heating sistem and it is very private with curtains and separate access. Trish and Gary are very welcoming and ready to give you all the info needed about Oamaru. Price super affordable!

Clean room, it had everything we needed :) kitchen is small but well equipped and bathroom is nice too. There was a functioning new heater and beds were comfy. I especially liked that we could move the double bed, to create a massive triple bed so that our baby doesn't fall off her bed :D (of course, we moved everything back to original position when leaving). It is walking distance to town (even though we drove). Oamaru is great <3

Really comfortable room, and location lovely in the country south of Oamaru, but we were the only residents in the whole hotel that night, and there was no restaurant or any other facility open, not even a bar or for breakfast. So while the room was lovely, we can't comment on anything else as we didn't get to experience them. But if you do come here, please do get Shane to show you the chapel - it is absolutely stunning.

Absolutely lovely place to stay - very clean, excellent facilities including a large well provisioned kitchen, very good beds and bed linen, warm with heat pump and wood burner. Very close to town. Very spacious with great dining/lounge area and beautifully presented with art and furniture complementing the home. Excellent host. Thank you Tina - would love to come back to stay when next in Oamaru. Definately 10 out of 10.

We ended our A2O cycling trail in this beautiful Oamaru Stone Building. Luxury boutique accomodation was a really pleasure to stay here with our group of 8 people. Everyone was blown away with the interior design of each room and the high spec features of kitchen and bathroom facilities. A real credit to its owners. Don't hesitate to book here its exceptional.

Love these old Hotels, but was a bit apprehensive when we arrived, in the midst of a hot summer, as there's no Air Con. In saying that, the window & breeze was fine and we had a great nights sleep - the beds were super comfy Also a great spot for a leisurely walk around ot the Blue Penguin colony.

30 minute drive from Oamaru but well worth it. Cute and cozy cabin (former school house) on a sheep farm. Everything you need for home comfort, Wi-Fi, hot shower, comfy bed, washing machine, and basic breakfast. Very welcoming hosts! Love the hens that come and visit!

Everything. This is a farm stay cabin so it’s not a 5 star hotel but that’s not the idea. Delightful to be in the country but really just up the hill from Oamaru. Beautiful garden, highland cattle and alpacas to feed. Wonderful owners.

Poshtel is the perfect hotel for Oamaru. This city is the center of Steampunk, and this hotel fits in perfectly. It was funky, quirky and had a very friendly staff. Nothing was too much for them! Can only recommend!
