Twizel is a small town but growing, with new housing areas on the edge of town and spreading out from there. It is mainly a holiday town but has a core of permanent residents.
It has a nice wee shopping area, good restaurants and is handy to the other lakes in the area and to a ski field in winter. It also gives easy access to Aoraki Mt Cook and the Waitaki Valley.

Cute town.
Cute town. It has what one needs to enjoy the getaway—groceries, pharmacy, gas, some clothing stores. And, most importantly, nice people who—in spite of the numbers of tourists who are in and out of town—are kind and helpful. Thank you, Twizel!

Nice little place with easy access by car to several lakes and the Hooker Valley walk. Nice river walk with views to Mt Cook.
Twizel has few tourists that we saw and has a very different feel to it than Tekapo, which we didn’t like at all.
We didn’t eat out in Twizel, but we did see a few restaurants, we cooked at the house as had great facilities there.
Good supermarkets.

Aoraki /Mount Cook National Park is great, go for walk/hike.
Aoraki /Mount Cook National Park is great, go for walk/hike. Try "Twizel" salmon, it is delicious. Twizel town is based on my opinion overrated in overal (visited many other places in NZ). If you want to see Aoraki / Mount Cook two days are enough with Lake Pukaki and Tekapo as well.

Twizel is a great central location to base yourself.
Twizel is a great central location to base yourself. Accessible to Wanaka, Queenstown, Mt Cook ( Aoraki) and more. Twizel itself has great options for eating and drinking. A favourite destination for us.
Everything!!! Especially after we stayed at Chch central hotel that was too expensive tried to make money for every little adding thing. Your motel was the best place we’ve ever stayed!! Loved it!!! It was crazy storm around Canterbury on the day and we were the only one luckily got to Twizel and they updated the accommodation for us. So flexible and open mind compared to posh stingy hotel in Chch. Also they were happy for our new kitten to stay and he loved it!! Thank you so much for been so lovely to us!! It was a lovely to stay.
Pukaki Air Lodge is in a great location, close to Twizel town centre and Lake Pukaki. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and possibly have the best shower I've used in a hotel/lodge. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there is a full kitchen available for guests to use, alongside coffee/tea in room. Having breakfast included was a great bonus!
With views straight out onto the airstrip and great views of Mt Cook, I feel like it would be hard to find somewhere as beautiful to stay.
Spent a night there earlier this month on a trip to Mount Cook. The Lady at reception was friendly. My room was very clean and comfy. It is a nice holiday park, they have a playground for kids, and overall it is cute and clean and you can see that they put lots of efforts into that place. I would stay there on another trip.
The lake is absolutely beautiful on a cold morning.
The property is a modern three bedroom holiday home of a good size with most of the amenities of home. A large fridge and a washing machine were appreciated as was the outside seating area. The location is quiet and seems to mostly be other holiday homes. Not too far from the shops where there were several places to eat.
Amazing house, everything you need in a house, comfortable beds, lovely well equipped kitchen, nice 2 outdoor seating areas, nice bathroom, halfway between Mt. Cook and Lake tekapo, fairly quick replies from host, lovely reataurants nearby...fishtail, poppies, high country salmon
Cute little place in the middle to Twizel, close to all things in the area. Very clean and had all we needed in a compact space. Nice patio that you can enjoy a glass of wine or dinner. Very well done with clear instructions on anything you might need.
The kitchen is well equipped with appliances and utensils - I think there is even a rice cooker. Washing machine available to do some washings too. Great location - It's between the Twizel township, High Country Salmon farm, and Mt. Cook National park.
Room was large, comfortable, clean, and walking distance from town. Driving up to the Motel it looks like a old world motel and was a bit concerning, but the inside and the staff were great. Truly enjoyed my stay.
Modern and clean house in Twizel. There is a skylight in the main bedroom for star viewing, which would have been awesome if we had a clear night. Kitchen was spacious and the bathroom had a great shower!
Really cute A-frame cabins. They were very clean, comfortable and spacious. A short drive to near sights (40ish mins to Lake Tekapo & Mt Cook). staff were great. Would absolutely stay here again!
A wonderful motel for three or more people having two bedrooms.
Bathroom shower was amazing. Will stay again due to a wonderful motel and friendly people, both staff and fellow guests.
This place is so spacious and very near to town! The view from the house is lovely! The bedrooms are very generous! We will definitely be booking again if we are in Twizel next!
We only stayed for a night but we had a good experience. The owner was friendly, the hotel was close to shops, supermarket and restaurants. Our double room was nice.
After staying in our van for a week, was a much needed reprieve. Really tidy and clean! Guy at the front desk was a legend. What a lovely friendly town twizel is :)
