Good, friendly reception, bar staff, fire great. Did not go into dinner as overrun with bus tour. Beds exceptional, only complaint is on entering it smelt very damb. Shower/bath unsuitable for me, marginally disabled on walking cane (as advised and observed by reception staff) needed my Sons help to get out, Geoff

Situated in Twizel in the Canterbury region, Kahurangi Cottage Twizel features accommodation with free private parking. The property features garden views.
We have been here a few times now and love it. It is the gateway to Mt Cook - we have done a heli hike, some wonderful walks and tramps, taken in the rivers and lakes, soaked in the hot tubs, eaten at local restaurants, shopped in the local stores, star gazed .... the list goes on.
The locals are super friendly - Twizel is just down the road from Tekapo but is nowhere near as busy or commercial. Accessible from Christchurch or Queenstown - you can fly into one, rent a car and fly out from the other, or just do a round trip. We will be back !!

Restaurants and cafes very busy and some were closed.
Restaurants and cafes very busy and some were closed. Since it was Easter Sunday and the finish of Warbirds Airshow, we had difficulty finding somewhere to have dinner and certainly no place for breakfast.

Twizel is a small town but growing, with new housing areas on the edge of town and spreading out from there. It is mainly a holiday town but has a core of permanent residents.
It has a nice wee shopping area, good restaurants and is handy to the other lakes in the area and to a ski field in winter. It also gives easy access to Aoraki Mt Cook and the Waitaki Valley.

Cute town.
Cute town. It has what one needs to enjoy the getaway—groceries, pharmacy, gas, some clothing stores. And, most importantly, nice people who—in spite of the numbers of tourists who are in and out of town—are kind and helpful. Thank you, Twizel!

Nice little place with easy access by car to several lakes and the Hooker Valley walk. Nice river walk with views to Mt Cook.
Twizel has few tourists that we saw and has a very different feel to it than Tekapo, which we didn’t like at all.
We didn’t eat out in Twizel, but we did see a few restaurants, we cooked at the house as had great facilities there.
Good supermarkets.

Aoraki /Mount Cook National Park is great, go for walk/hike.
Aoraki /Mount Cook National Park is great, go for walk/hike. Try "Twizel" salmon, it is delicious. Twizel town is based on my opinion overrated in overal (visited many other places in NZ). If you want to see Aoraki / Mount Cook two days are enough with Lake Pukaki and Tekapo as well.
We loved the location, grounds, privacy, view, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, walk-in robe and storage, good quality towels and bedding. The cottage was beautifully presented and sparkling clean. Having a washing machine and dryer is always a bonus when you're on the road. Twizel is an excellent base for Mt Cook National Park and Tekapo. Kea Cottage, being just a couple of minutes from the town centre, was perfect.
A spacious, comfortable and modern room that felt nice and private. Everything was clean, tidy and there's a handy folder with recommendations of local walks / things to do. It's a good location, an easy walk to various bars / restaurants and parking was simple. There's a small car park (accommodating around 3 cars) for the hotel but you're down a quiet side street so there's plenty of roadside parking also.
This accommodation is perfect for larger groups, offering ample space, every room has its own bathroom.
Very cozy, especially with the fireplace.
The location is a major plus, easily accessible and close to Twizel, but also not a far drive from the awesome landscapes in the area. Our overall experience was great and would definitely book again.
We really liked Twizel but if you or your travelling companion is high-maintenance, you might not be as happy as we were at the High Country Lodge. It's a budget option and actually quite intriguing. So, we enjoyed it enormously, and give it a high review, but it's not luxury... Spectacular water pressure in the shower was a real treat.
We stayed in the studio motel room 102. It was large, clean and well appointed. Giant king size bed and a single, suited our family of three very well. Well equipped kitchenette with toaster and kettle. 5 minute drive to Twizel and a short walk to lake ruataniwha. Playground is old and dangerous to my eyes but my 7yo loved it!
It was great that these we’re more like private cabins than motel rooms! We loved the kitchenette and appreciated having parking right in front of our cabin. Great location just 2 mins from town and 45 mins from Mt. Cook! They also let us check in early, which was greatly appreciated!
Room was large, comfortable, clean, and walking distance from town. Driving up to the Motel it looks like a old world motel and was a bit concerning, but the inside and the staff were great. Truly enjoyed my stay.
If we could give a higher rating, we would. One of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. Super warm and homey with an incredibly tranquil view. Delicious breakfast and an ultra clean room.
A wonderful motel for three or more people having two bedrooms.
Bathroom shower was amazing. Will stay again due to a wonderful motel and friendly people, both staff and fellow guests.
The location in central Twizel was fantastic. Easy walk to everything you need. Grocery, Bakery, Restaurants etc. The hotel grounds were fantastic. Nice table right outside the room
Pleasant stay for a camping-style accommodation. Shared bathroom facilities were just "ok." It was nice to have a shared kitchen available, but we weren't provided any dishware.
