Great town with friendly locals.
Great town with friendly locals. All hospitality options covered, with a bar on a jetty that is very pleasant but always seemed short staffed. Easy walking town and a jetty to Russell with happy staff to greet you.
Visited Pompallier House in Russell which is well worth the visit and again met with lovely friendly greeting and service.

We spent two nights at Paihia Beach Resort and Hotel.
We spent two nights at Paihia Beach Resort and Hotel. This is a five-star hotel and it was in fair to good condition. The reception desk is staffed between 8am to 9pm. Staff were very helpful. When we got there it was raining and the reception staff had run out of umbrellas. A suggestion, if you place at least one umbrella in each room as this seems to be fair. A bonus was they had a self laundry room that was complimentary for the guest. The hallways and lift area smelt stuffy but the rooms were quite clean.
The staff at reception were very helpful and knowledgeable.
The hotel is in close proximity to a local supermarket which was about a 10 minute walk and it was about 8 minute walk to the wharf and the restaurants.
Transport: We used Kerikeri Taxis from the airport to the hotel.
Weather: We were in Paihia in early December but temperatures were dropping to 15°C at night and during the day it goes up to 21°C. The locals have told us that summer in New Zealand starts in late January and temperatures do not go over 30°C.

A beautiful place to visit with lots of activities on your doorstep from swimming, to boat trips, good range of restaurants/cafes. Can recommend jfc restaurant for quality fish and chips(and other seafood) in a beautiful setting. A visit to Waitangi Treaty grounds and a trip over to Russell for lunch at the Duke of Marlborough is a must.

Liked the markets and the location with easy access to Russell which was well worth a visit.
A cruise ship was moored when we arrived so the town was rather chaotic and overcrowded. Much better when it had gone!
Our room had a great view looking out over the Paihia Harbour. The staff when above and beyond what was asked, While checking Fullers called to stay they where cancelling the tour up to Cape Reinga (Just over 12 hours), They did a ring around to see if any or the other operators where running there trips. There was no one else doing it but the lady did more than Fullers did for us.
If you thinking or use Fullers anywhere in New Zealand think again as they all about the money and not customer service
This is the best hostel I've stayed at in New Zealand so far!!! The location was amazing. It is right in the centre of Paihia, surrounded by restaurants and shops. The lounge was my favourite. It overlooked the sea and was well decorated. It is a cosy place to unwind at the end of the day. The whole place was also exceptionally clean. Plus, when I visited, the all-female staff were super lovely and made a female solo traveller like me feel very comfortable indeed.
Bay Sands was perfectly situated away from the main crowded area of Paihia yet close enough to walk to access all the activities offered at the wharf. It was also walking distance to Waitangi treaty grounds and the Hararu water falls. The beach area across the hotel was perfect to enjoy a quiet swim and a picnic in privacy. The unit was neat and comfortable with all appliances I could possibly need. The ?owner Jimmy was very pleasant and helpful.
This property is amazing. I had a bad experience in another hotel in Paihia and was able to stay at Paihia Beach Resort for the remainder of my stay. There is no comparison. I will be back to Paihia Beach resort in a heartbeat. Staff were amazing, the room perfect, waking up to waves every day, the pools, the restaurant, beds comfortable, everything. And on-site spa. Best massage ever
Apart from a comfortably roomy , quiet apartment which was clean and bright .. the view was spectacular.. I’d thoroughly recommend booking an Ocean View Unit . A fuss free check in and out .. the Motel is a very short walk to restaurants, shopping and ferries .. and the Treaty Grounds .. We loved our stay in Paihia ..enhanced by staying at the Breakwater Motel
The size of the room was fabulous, i had travelled through to Kaeo to spend the day with my child, and decided to book at stay in Paihia. The location suited my needs and was extremely close to what i was looking for, as i was going to have a mirimiri at the community centre with David Denton on the saturday. I also appreciated that the rooms were clean.
Good location, cheap price for a hotel. I stayed in the budget two single beds room, the bedroom looks new and clean. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. The pictures with the hotel is misleading, doesn't provide an accurate description of what the room looks like.
Beautiful views and location. Paihia is in such a beautiful part of New Zealand.
Norm and Shelagh were most welcoming. After the whole world has been locked down it was so nice to visit such a friendly and accommodating motel. Would definitely return.
It was close to attractions in Paihia, very close to Waitangi Treaty Grounds, close to the Countdown supermarket and close to a petrol station. It had a nice view of the bay. The accommodation was clean and there was a washing machine for our use.
The breakfast was excellent. The location is great. We cook in the motel. We can use washing machine and dryer too. Trevor is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed staying at Paihia Star Hotel. Will definitely come back again.
Loved the location right beside a grocery store and within walking distance of downtown Paihia and the Waitingi Treary Grounds. Pool looked lovely, but it was too cold for us to swim. :)
The location was great, close to wharf and within walking distance of Waitangi Treat Ground. Very helpful host and staff. Excellent base from which to explore the Bay of Islands!
The staff is friendly and helpful. The room is big and the breakfast is good. We parked our car in the hotel, it's the convenience distance to walk to the Paihia wharf.
Typical old bach, but charmingly renovated with plenty of nice details. Amazing location right beside Te Tii Marae and just a short walk to Waitangi and the beach.
Perfect location for a weekend away in Paihia. Everything is within walking distance and the rooms are the right size for a short stay. I will definitely go back.
The nicest units weve booked in Paihia. We normally stay at motels/hotels but there units were worth the price. Very clean, homely, comfortable and warm 😊
