At first wasn’t too sure about New Plymouth but the more we walked around the city the more we liked it. It’s a very tidy city with lots of amazing murals painted on buildings, tidy and clean with every shop you could think off. It is handy to the foreshore and a beautiful walkway and within a few hundred metres from beautiful Pukekura Park on other side of township, a must visit.

My new favourite city in New Zealand, what a little gem, hidden secret in the North Island. It is cultural, scenic, modern and so easy to get around. It is one of the most kid friendly places we have visited in New Zealand with free activities all around to keep little ones entertained. The food options are outstanding and affordable and the locals are very friendly. We are so lucky to live not too far away so we will be back often to visit.

Beautiful place to explore and relax.
Beautiful place to explore and relax. Easy to find your way around as pretty much all streets link up, lots of different eateries all along the main strip and side streets. We ended up having fast foods and room service for the duration of our short trip as we traveled with young children. We enjoyed most Being able to meet up with all our family from around New Zealand and getting together at the local hotels or beach’s/ parks and letting the kids run freely together.
This hotel is amazing (Probably the best I have ever stayed at) & super cheap too. We booked in for our wedding anniversary & the whole experience was definitely one to remember. The staff were so friendly, we felt super welcomed the moment we arrived. The room service food was delicious. We even had a spa bath in our room and were able to hire out the bikes which we went for a ride in a beautiful forest just down the road. I would recommend this hotel to everyone and will definitely return in the future
Perfect location in the centre of New Plymouth with easy parking on site and plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes in the area. Very well appointed hotel with interesting decor, large rooms, comfortable bed and very clean throughout. The bathroom was a good size, with a very good shower. The room we were in would also be very suitable for people with disabilities.
Reception closes at 9pm and then there is a side door to enter, which may be an issue if arriving late.
We ended up at the Novotel New Plymouth for 3 nights during the cyclone Gabrielle, as most of the North Island was badly affected and we were looking for somewhere out of the storm. The staff were excellent and extended our stay after it became clear that one day had to be sacrificed because of the weather. We liked the restaurant and bar and were impressed with how comfortable, spacious and modern the rooms were.
The motor inn is well located within walking distance to the centre of new Plymouth, the coastal walkway, restaurants and supermarkets.
Owners are friendly and very helpful and the service staff are obliging. Washing machine and dryer are available for use at no extra cost which is a bonus when travelling :)
Connectivity was good- wifi worked well. Kitchenette means can cook simple things and clean up.
This is difficult to review as we didn't end up staying there because the unit had a broken shower that morning & no other units available! However the manager was most apologetic and had booked a room at the Plymouth International Hotel up the road. She hopped in the car with us as a guide and facilitated the check in & prepaid the room. The hotel has a 4 star rating (8) and was roomy & comfortable
Good location, walking distance to the centre of New Plymouth. Nice to find a relatively inexpensive room/suite/converted flat that could accommodate 5 adults in reasonable comfort. Dilmah tea, sugar, biscuits, and one decent coffee bag topped up daily. Decent beds and towels for this price range. A good amount of space and a good-sized dining table for a family room.
Situated on the main road with plenty of parking. Loved the spa which is open until 9pm. every day. Unfortunately it was raining all the time we were in New Plymouth but, had it not, we would have certainly used the free bikes. There were plenty so probably it would not have been a problem.
Perfect Holiday house, kids love the swimming, the bedrooms are large and tidy, Everything is perfect, we had been to New Plymouth many times, this is the best accommodation. Just booked another trip in January, all of us want to come back.
Beautiful property with views over New Plymouth. The apartment is spacious and comfortable. Use of spa pool is great! Loved Rae’s home made bread and breakfast being provided made life easy. Especially loved Cookie, the dog!
Loved the funky decor, artwork and elegant guest lounge. Great location as the hotel was in the heart of New Plymouth with restaurants in walking distance and near to the Coastal Walkway. Luke was extra friendly and helpful.
Really nice hosts.Hospitality as is should be.Plenty of tea and coffee sachets not like many other sorry so say asian run motels who dont even service your room. I always stay here for my business trips to New Plymouth
Love the friendly staff and how clean and spacious the units are .
This is our fourth stay at the metrotel and we keep coming back as it has great off street parking and close to everything we enjoy in New Plymouth!
Good location. Nice bathroom and spa bath. The bed was comfortable and there were comfortable chairs to relax in. The lighting was very good unlike a lot of motels we have visited. Lots of channels available on TV.
The Hotel is conveniently close to town and main roads. In inclement weather you all facilities you need are on site.
Parking is ample and the wifi works well. The rooms are warm and spacious.
A lovely, comfortable motel unit with working spa bath. The cost was a litlle higher than other motels alrhough the spa bath made up for that. Friendly and welcoming staff.
It was cheap and the location worked, however I think because everything is so close in New Plymouth the location is not really an issue-any location works.
