The best way for not getting soroche or altitude sickness is to drive straight from the airport to the Sacred Valley and stay there at least the first 3 days of your stay in Cusco. This is the best way to get your body used to such a high altitude and avoid getting sick. Urubamba has great restaurants and hotels all around, so there’s plenty of choices for lunch and dinner. The weather is much warmer and nicer than Cusco and it’s a great hub for visiting the ruins around the place.

Urubamba is the perfect base from which to explore the Sacred Valley. It's also a quieter, less overtouristed alternative to Cuzco. Visitors can walk clear across town without being stopped by touts every few steps, but getting to Ollantaytambo, Moray and Maras is a breeze (and cheap). The town also has plenty of great dining options, all for much less than you'd pay in Cuzco, and it's perfect for people watching. It may seem a bit rough around the edges at first but within a day you'll find it comfortable and even homey.

We had been there for work and looked for a peaceful place to spend the night, which we found. I know Urubamba, since I live in the Sacred Valley. Nice little town, where you find everything, you need for a short or long stay.

I liked staying here. Great food. Some good local sights.
I liked staying here. Great food. Some good local sights. Easy access to both Pisac and Ollantaytambo. It's a little less quaint than those other two tourist hot spots, but I preferred that Urubamba was a real city, with less domination from tourists. It is more centrally located than the other two, making it easier to get to them both. Really enjoyed my stay.

Urubamba is a good place to stay to see the sights in the sacred valley. There are a lot of restaurants and our hotel into nan was outstanding. Our hosts arranged taxis to show us the sights, and once the owner even drove us to a shop!
This hotel blows your mind when you walk in. Its' crazy design is like from outer space, so cool, perfect for your instagram if you have one. It's perfect to be halfway to Machu Picchu and Cusco to be explore the local area, the salt fields and terraces in particular. Lots to see, and the food was super exceptional, which I really did not expect. Do make a point of eating in for breakfast and dinner. They kindly organised a taxi for the day costing 70 soles, approx £20, to visit everywhere, so cheap.
Beautiful location by the fast flowering river in the Center of the sacred valley. The hotel is set around and ancient hacienda with multiple courtyards, terraces and a museum and cinema. The gardens are perfection, the pool, lakes and island chapel all lovely. The spa is world class and the chef worthy of international recognition. And the staff……. In our experience Peruvians are the warmest and most welcoming of people and it seemed that the best of those traits were in abundance here.
The staff was lovely ,very polite, helpful and super friendly. We had a bad experience with trains being delayed in ollantaytambo due to the political situation in Peru and the staff was so caring and protective of us . They also brought us a bag with food to take to the train to Macchu Picchu , so thoughtful . I was traveling with my 2 young adult children and their support made the trip much easier bearing in mind we arrived to urubamba during a political chaotic time in Peru
I love to find this jewels in the middle of the Andes and this is the Sacred Lodge in Urubamba, I loved the grounds, gardens flowers, all the rooms like a small cottages, very private, quite, Loved the Spa, Breakfast and dinners so personalized, Everything was eccellent and the atencion of Mr. Jose the property manager was amazing, he was always attent that our requests were met and that our stay was plasent. Thank you I will come back very soon!!!!
Everything about this place is perfect. Located in a beautiful mountain view valley with a fantastic fruit garden, this place is a perfect getaway location to spend some quiet and relaxing time. Supervisor Karel was the nicest person we met in Peru, she did a superb job helping and assisting us. The beds were one of the most comfortable ones we have ever slept in. The hotel has a fantastic design which makes the stay so much more enjoyable.
Lovely friendly staff. It is a bit of a walk to town and all its amenities and restaurants so it was nice that coffee was always set out although it was usually cold. I understand that Peruvians do not usually drink milk with coffee but many foreigners prefer either milk or powdered milk in their coffee. This would be a nice addition. The bedding was warm and greatly appreciated. It was a perfect stop in Urubamba.
My friends and I arrived to the hotel after several days of trekking and it was the perfect place to rest. They made us felt like home. The service was exceptional, and we were able to recharge energy. We used the sauna, the game room, but not the pool because it was late. All the amenities were in good shape.
bonus: there is even a private clinic next to the hotel.
Breakfast was very fresh, such a change from other breakfasts we'd had recently. I loved the garden and the flowers. There was chamomile growing everywhere and you can order a fresh chamomile tea made from the same plants. The staff organised for our daughter to play on the bouncy castle which happened to be in a hotel next door!!
Friendly staff, stunning room with a gorgeous Roman style bath, view over the lush fields with llamas grazing, and a delicious breakfast. The breakfast is a buffet but they also allow you to ask for an omelet made to order, for example. The energy of the entire property was one of luxury and relaxation. We will definitely be back!
This hotel was perfect. Our family of 4 (2adults, 2kids 7 & 9) stayed here and it was such a great value. We felt safe, the room was super clean, and the breakfast every morning was so fresh. We have no complaints- it was perfect for our stay to climatize before heading to Machu Picchu. Would recommend this place to others.
We stayed in this hotel for a week, and enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms are very clean and cozy, beds were perfect. Breakfast is great with lots of stuff. We especially liked the tea station offering local herbs.
Also, 4 cute baby alpacas are visiting the area every day to polish the ideal Andean landscape.
The room was very spacious, new and clean. We loved the parrot living near the kitchen. The hosts did their best to assist with whatever we needed and we used the option to book a tour with a discount with the agency that is managed by the owners which was very good.
My review is a bit late but a few months ago I stayed here and it was my dream time in Peru. I had been all over the Sacred valley and this place was definitely number one! everything was awesome from the food to the view to the staff, highly recommend!
The themed rooms and hotel decoration were very nice and we really appreciated that. The staff was friendly. Since the hotel is quite far from the center of Urubamba, it is a very good place to relax.
It’s a new hotel and just on the edge of being awesome, will be great when they finish off the edges. Everything was clean and new. Breakfast was great.
