Really interesting city with great options for visiting a number of natural and historical sites: 2.5 hours to Chavin de Huantar, 2 hours to glaciers and mountain lakes. The city is teeming with travel operators to take you there - there are also colectivos at your own risk. Lots of restaurants of various cuisines, including both tourist-focused places and more local ones. We even found some good vegetarian options - especially at Paulino's Indian and Casa de Zarela Thai.

Like Cusco and Lima, it was a crowded city of aggressive drivers constantly honking and spewing exhaust. Prices were higher than Cusco with less souvenir shopping. Maybe choose a place a little outside the town or another town that is closer to most of the day trips--it'll save u bus time too.

Huaraz is a great location as a base for mountaineering and hiking. At an altitude of 3000m you can retain your acclimatization there. There is a good supermarket Trujillo where you can get most food for the mountains, good restaurants with nice artisanal beer, stores with basic hiking equipment and gas. The town is chaotic but in a nice kind of way and seems to be safe.

A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains.
A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains. Lots of great trekking with stunning views and such a different range of scenery. Snow and ice with glaciers, or big crevasse strewn hills, or stunning big valleys with views over Huaraz. Lots of outdoor shops, lots of good places to eat and doesn't feel at all touristy.

Not really a nice city.
Not really a nice city. There is the Museum in the center of the city worth seing, with a garden of (real) Chavin stones.
Food is terrible. Almost all restaurants, expensive or unexpensive, only serve fried stuff with fried potatoes and eventually a sallad that I would not dare to eat. Alternatives are pizzas and pastas. But one does not travell up to the mountains to eat such kind of commercial food and so heavy.
We took a private car for a city tour at 5 p.m. He took us to various places. Interesting. We asked him if there was something to do in the evenings, like a cinema or a theater, and he said there was nothing going on like that in Huaraz.
It is a place to stop for starting a several days trip mounaineering or mountain walks, like to the mountains, or in our case we planned a 2 days trip to Chavin de Huantar (archeaology and nature).
People in Huaraz are generally speaking quite hostile, even locals to each other, prices are higher than in Lima (apparently there is much money circulating as the result of all the the mines around), service in restaurants and cafes is quite bad. What is offered, is in most cases is not what they really have once you start to order. If you have to go to Huaraz for starting your trip to the mountains or elsewhere, take it relaxed, stay cool, don`t expect too much and you will notice some little cool details here and there.
The attention is incredible, all the staff are impeccable and of incalculable kindness, I feel proud of Peru, the level of talent and professionalism with which they work, I have the most pleasant memories, a special greeting to everyone, thank you very much for everything, always caring about the guests, thank you for your patience. The entire hostel team is a source of pride for Peru! Greetings. Extraordinary experience. My best stay in Huaraz.
It is only three blocks from the main center street in Huaraz. It is only two blocks away from a bio market. There are a few options for cafe’s and one is only three blocks away, Cafe Adino. I loved that the room looked out to the mountains. Great views in the morning and throughout the day. Finally, they do have WiFi for guests, even though Booking.com mentioned it did not.
The value for money is awesome! I think I did not stay anywhere in Peru as cheap and good. The rooms are only with three people and you have an en suite bathroom. Both the room and the bathroom are very clean. The breakfast is good and changes everyday. The staff is also very nice and the prices for the tours I booked were even cheaper than in other places around Huaraz.
The good- the hotel is cute and charming. I liked that is is not right in town so not as crowded. But the staff are apathetic. Everywhere in Peru we had wanderduk service and this was not great. We asked a question about COVID testing (the website said they could help) abs they were annoyed we asked them. The bartenders give great service. The good was good.
The owners are very nice! They arranged everything for us during our stay (good price), including tours, earlier breakfast etc.
Also had a (very) early check in after a night bus.
Location directly in the city center with the street market in the same street, but no noise.
Hotel is just perfect to stay in Huaraz.
The best location in Huaraz and for us (traveling as a couple) the greatest time so far in peru 🇵🇪❤️ it’s comfortable and clean as well as a nice place to relax after having extraordinary tour’s! The hole team makes the difference there because they are wonderful and nice! Thanks for the great time in Huaraz!
Excellent hotel in Huaraz! Super comfortable room, free breakfast included, and the staff are all super nice and go out of their way to accommodate you. After staying in a hostel my first night and then trekking, this place felt like a 5-star hotel! Definitely one of the better hotel options in Huaraz.
The receptionist - gold star. Amazing how being greeted by a friendly smile makes you feel welcome and at home, plus she helped us throughout our stay. I wish I remembered her name, she made the hotel outstanding even without perfect facilities. She was a young lady with 3 letters in her first name
The Morales brothers lived up to their exceptional reputation as super-knowledgeable hosts and guides. Their hotel is located a few minutes walk from town, but benefits by being quiet. Hot showers, comfortable beds, killer views at breakfast. Friendly and efficient staff.
The big room,
The big shower room with hot shower(the hot temperature that was different from Cusco),
The Best staffs who responded 24/7
Warm bread for the first time in Peru
There's reason why this hostel is well known to tourists
Akilpo home was the best choice staying in Huaraz. The host, Esteban, is a pro of giving you the best advice where to hike or what to do in the city. If you're here for the mountains & hiking, it's the place to stay.
The staff are not hostel managers, they are truly your second family in Peru while your stay.
Its located in the city center, its good value for money and the stay was absolutely fun and comfertable!
The location is really good. From Lima to Huaraz the night buses usually arrive super early, so we arrived at 5 am and the hotel let us check in earlier without charging us anything.
hot shower, the hostel is clean. the neighbour is quiet. close to the Main Street. the breakfast is different everyday. strong wifi . one of the best hostels I have ever stayed.
Friendly staff, comfy common area with a fireplace, clean kitchen, good breakfast and a comfortable room. I would definitely recommend to stay here when in Huaraz!
