Cajamarca has a lot to offer, particularly its surroundings.
Cajamarca has a lot to offer, particularly its surroundings. The mining industry changed the nature of the town to a large extent between 1995 and 2011, but after public protests sized down its activities, Now it is a busy middle sized town with plenty of hotels, good local and international food and still a pleasant vibe to it.
It is a historical place where the Incas were confronted for the first time with a Spanish army in 1532, with dramatic outcomes. Many sites in and around Cajamarca are pre-colombian, but especially Cumbe Mayo is worth a visit thanks to its location and stunning hydraulic systems dating back to the Caxamarca culture. The valley itself and nearby provinces are worth a visit as well, especially if you are used to the chaotic life at the coast.

Cajamarca really made me feel like I was in Peru!
Cajamarca really made me feel like I was in Peru! It is so local and the architecture makes wandering the streets a blast. I stumbled upon a very rare vegetarian restaurant which my stomach was very grateful for, and there are some ruins nearby to check out. I undortunately only stayed a day but 2-3 may have been prererable.
We stayed five nights in Casa Mirita. Casa Mirita is located a bit outside of the center in a quiet street, Cajamarca center Is reached very easily with mototaxi. The room in Casa Mirita is basic, the personal atmosphere, provided by Mirita and Vicky, is just fantastic. The breakfast is freshly prepared every day and very good. We can recommend Casa Mirita to everybody who is interested staying in a typical Peruvian home and in experiencing Peruvian hospitality.
Very friendly staff, good breakfast.
Nice, well kept building interior, nice, clean rooms. Cable TV and nice bathroom.
Credit cards accepted.
The location is not perfect for visitors but in walking distance (12-16 minutes) to Plaza de Armas and Real Plaza Mall. Public buses to Baños del Inca and Otuzco are just a few blocks away at Inca circle, a 5 minutes walk away.
The hotel is well located for the main square and restaurants. Communication had been excellent before our arrival and continued so during our stay. The manager was very helpful in showing where we could park our car safely at a low price. The shower is probably the best we have had in Peru. Also, the Wi-Fi worked fine. The breakfast was fine.
Very comfortable beds and blankets. A kind staff and good lunch for 8 soles/about 2 USD. Great location as well and hot water showers. Lockers in the rooms are good sized. Excellent value for the price as well! I would stay at Pacha Qori again! Cajamarca itself made a good substitute for Chachapoyas (didn't go due to Keulap being closed).
The apartment was clean, spacious, and very comfortable, but be prepared for cold nights. The staff was exceptionally kind and helpful. Good choices for breakfast. The location is closed to Plaza de Armas and Santa Apolonia, but you have to climb a steep stone staircase. There are several good restaurants in the area.
You will find a sweet little home stay with some amazing people to meet. We have had some interesting discussions at the dinner table and enjoyed fresh fruits, healthy food for breakfast and a tea invitation during the evening. The rooms were cozy. We also had hot water, which is not everywhere found in Peru.
Carlos was an incredible host that went out of his way to help us guests, even going so far as taking us on a tour in his car when agencies were shut down due to a protest. The common area is cozy and safe. There is a very nice plaza outside and it is only a 20 minute walk to Plaza de Armas
Quiet location really close to the Center of Cajamarca. Nice Garden in Front of the Rooms. Raphael and the staff is really helpful and he tries to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
It's a 'old' House, there is no Luxus. But for me, there was everything I needed for one night.
The stuff is very friendly and the location is pretty good. You can easly walk from the hostal to the center and the surounding buildings carry the colonial vibe. I enjoyed my stay in this hostal. The hostal is super affordable and yet it fitted all my needs
We enjoyed the decor and beauty of the hotel. It looked very alive and vibrant. We also appreciated the sincerity and attention the workers had to the guests. The hotel workers were the sweetest. We also enjoyed the breakfast provided every morning.
The staff is super friendly. The hotel is in a quite area. Basic breakfast with coffee and juice. Bed was comfortable. Hot water in the shower. I could leave my backs after check-out while out in the city waiting for my night bus.
