It's a nice city but not as amazing as others in Peru.
It's a nice city but not as amazing as others in Peru. Plenty to do if you're young and adventurous, and some good attractions nearby including the town of Llamas and its Castle and several waterfalls. A lot of excellent restaurants and the "Plaza de Armas" (town square) is brand new and very impressive. The city is noisy, however, and the roads are a mess. Lots of stray dogs, also, which is a problem all over Peru. (Watch out for poop on the sidewalks!)

Tarapoto and the surrounding areas have some interesting attractions including a number of waterfalls and also the Castle in Lamas. Good starting point for a visit to the Peru Selva. Traveled from Tarapoto to Laguna Azul in Sauce which is very nice

I don't like Tarapoto itself that much.
I don't like Tarapoto itself that much. It is noisy and hectic without that native touch like Iquitos or Cusco, for example. The Café Zygo is very sweet though and the owner Patricia made it and the organic food with love. Also the environment is very beautiful, there are waterfalls to visit, a lake and a lot more. So for being active and make tours, Tarapoto a is good base. But as city I recommand Lamas more, what is just 20 km away. Definitly for a day visit. I was only there for 2 nights and was definitely not enough! I didn't get to visit the lagoons and waterfalls around the city, but did visit 3 markets and ate at a few nice restaurants! Will be back soon to visit the surroundings :-)PazArgentina

Sandra, Mercedes, and all the family are amazing, super nice, helpful, interesting. You feel at home from the beginning. It's a nice place to stay, chill, and visit around if you want. The room was nice with a private bathroom and AC. You also have rooftop to chill and a big swimming pool. They prepare a really nice breakfast (the last day, Sandra did our breakfast a 6.30 am before our leaving) I definitely recommend this place!! Muchas Gracias para todo !!!

The food at the hotel's restaurant was excellent thanks to a great cook.
