Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.
Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.
The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.
Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!

Great for just strolling - some of the back streets are magical. People very friendly and very proud of their city. Take the ferry to Cacilhas and try one of the fish restaurants in the main village there. Go to tourist information and you may want to go further.
In Faro we ate at 8 Tapas, the Tavern, and Velha Casa - just what we wanted with delightful staff. Octopus at the Tavern with two crazy waiters was superb.

I am certain I must have reviewed Faro before, but I doubt I will ever tire of the place so I guess whatever I say about it will always be through those eyes... A city, full of hustle and bustle and yet you can always find somewhere to sit, watch life and reflect... Storks are nesting everywhere, you can almost touch the Trains as they rumble through alongside the river, you can see the Airport and the centrally placed bus station will take you here there and everywhere... It has a proper old bit, with walls and everything, including nesting storks and gorgeous architecture... It has functional bits, the commercial centre, it has a Marina, it has culture, it is a proper City full of real life... You may have guessed already I love it 'ALL'... Alan

Compact and historical. easy to walk round the cobbled streets. Lovely old buildings in the old town, museum and cathedral worth a visit. Some good bars/reataurants. We love the one on the marina (O Cortona) Good food and service, excelent location. Best thing is it is next to the Ria Formosa natural park so plenty of wildlife, bird spotting. Boat trip is a must.

We were very pleasantly surprised with Faro, we initially picked the destination for convenience and some sunny weather but got a lot more. Plenty of restaurants and activities to keep us busy on our short stay. We had a excellent food four with a local guide, spent a lovely day on Faro Beach which was way beyond our expectations and visited a local winery for a tasting tour which was really nice and great value for money, Faro offer a variety of different restaurants , all great value

Faro was beautiful and so peaceful at this time of year.
Faro was beautiful and so peaceful at this time of year. More bars were starting to open up towards the end of my stay. The beaches were amazing. Ilha Deserta and Ilha Tavari are well worth a visit and worth staying a few hours to really enjoy them.
I loved walking round the old town and plenty of places to take a rest and relax.
I also really emjoyed being able to get to islands by boat and going to the beach by boat is far nicer than going on the bus (and not a long walk when you get off as there is with the bus).
I didn't do the usual sightseeing places as I was there just to relax and destress. I enjoyed having lots of space on the beaches and the streets being queiter though still a bit busy.
I could easily have spent another week exploring.
The people are friendly and very polite. Cars stop to let you cross the road and it was like nobody was in a rush.
Used the train to get to Tavari then got a boat out to Ilha Tavari.
All the time I was in Faro I never felt unsafe and never got any hassle. I went out alone in the evening and felt comfortable.
I would definitely recommend a stay in Faro. As the days passed I fell more and more in love with Faro.
Great bus service, train service and ferry boat service - especially considering it was out of season.
Excellent location, pristine rooms that were cleaned everyday. A great restaurant and bar on the rooftop complete with loungers and a heated pool for guests which was so refreshing in the Faro heat. The hotel feels more than 5 star, rituals toiletries across the hotel and motion sensor lifts etc which made this the cleanest hotel I’ve ever been in. Couldn’t recommend more! To top it off the staff were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and helpful and the breakfast spread was incredible with so much to choose from.
We loved everything about this hotel, the location to the airport, the cleanliness and the upkeep of the hotel and the private balconies. It's an easy 10 minute walk to the terminal. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Diana the front desk person was awesome. She gave us a great recommendation for a restaurant for lunch. If you are in need for a hotel within walking distance from the terminal this is the hotel for you. We will definitely stay here again when we are flying out of Faro.
We stayed for two days and enjoyed our stay before moving to a villa for a week. The day of our return to the UK we found left luggage at the airport not working. Since we had a late flight we returned to the hotel and asked if they would keep our luggage for the day. They agreed for which we are extremely grateful!! We had a relaxing day in Faro and were able to eat and drink at the quayside bar making for a relaxed final day . Thank you to your staff
Location is very good it is in heart of faro city in beach side near to faro bus station 4 minutes walk and faro train station 9 minutes walk and many restaurants around
In faroway hostel it self there is have a kitchen and mini bar in upstairs very good for relaxing and view to city centre.
I with family very enjoyed staying there
I recommend to family and friends and to tourists who wants to visit to faro portugal Faroway hostel is the best.
Really great villa in the hills peace and quite, great room size and swimming pool with a fully equipped kitchen if you want to cook some nice home meals. The host were absolutely fantastic with breakfast served every morning fresh fruits fresh orange juice coffee etc, it's perfect to spend the days exploring the beachs and towns in Portugal and comeing back to the villa for some peace and quite, I will definitely be returning.
Valentina is a kind host and gave me a warm welcome into her B&B. The room is comfortable and the accomodation location is very close to the Faro bus and train stations and the restaurants. She also gave very good information of the covid situation in Portugal and made me feel comfortable. She responds very quickly to messages which I also greatly appreciate!!
Convenient location close to airport. We stayed for one night, the next day we continued our trip through Portugal. If you want to sleep in, then when booking, ask for rooms whose windows do not overlook the courtyard. If on the contrary with noisy companies, then you just here. We were lucky, we slept well and rested.
Lovely hotel with a fabulous roof terrace and unexpected (not advertised) great, inclusive breakfast. Quiet neighbourhood within an easy walk to the bars and restaurants of the very pretty Old Town. Easy drive from the airport and plenty of free street parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.
A great hotel for short stays, I say that as rooms are very small. BUT, the hotel and rooms are new, fresh and in a great location for touring Faro. We used this hotel for our last night of a two week vacation as it was a 10 minute drive to the airport with a gas station on the way to fill up the rental car.
Hotel was very clean and tidy. Breakfast was great value for money. Staff were all superb. The reception staff were so helpful, friendly and professional. It was my first time in Faro and Portugal and the reception staff were extremely helpful. They advised on places to visit.
peaceful and quiet. we had spent a few days in the city, busy every day and it was lovely to spend our last days in Portugal relaxing at the pool which was lovely and the beach which was easy to get to. Close to the airport for our return flight.
The location was great for exploring the town nearby and easy to get to from the bus station (and a short uber ride to the airport). The staff were wonderful and very friendly! We borrowed a beach umbrella for our day trip to Faro beach.
I really enjoyed staying at the Faro Clara. I had an amazing rooftop suite, and the hotel was very well situated. I would highly recommend it. Rute was incredibly helpful, clearly exceeding expectations.
Amazing location, could step onto the beach from the hotel. Lovely rooms, rooftop bar and sunbathing area. Very helpful staff. So close to the airport but no noise and ferry over to Faro was perfect.
Very, very nice hotel with a lovely little garden with a fantastic pool.I also appreciated the free transport service from the hotel to Faro, Faro Beach or to the Airport. Excellent service!
On arrival at Faro booked into this hotel. Staff Very helpful. Food fantastic great walk on gorgeous beach and a very good first night stay in Portugal
