It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

Matemwe and its area is a quiet place where you can relax and enjoy the beach, the activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins) especially if you are a couple, because the village is not very full of enterteinments or night parties.

The Location, The hotel it self and design plus the exterior is just beautiful. The most important was the staff...all levels from front desk to restaurant/kitchen...very professional and the hospitality is the best. What ever you request...they will make sure you get it...!

Crystal clear water - despite there being sea urchins - if you have rock/ aqua shoes - you can still swim and explore the waters and reefs. The beaches are a lot quieter and peaceful than the busier beaches up north. The tides are also fascinating to watch- you can walk out to the reefs and cycle along the beaches when they go out!

Marafiki gets a 10/10 from us on all fronts - breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, cleanliness, hospitality, music, sustainability, beach, communication. My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Marafiki after our Safari and had the most fabulous time. The rooms were very clean and quiet, and beautifully set up. The food is exceptional - please try the tuna tartar and all the specials! We had a relaxing time at the spa - you must try the full body scrub and massages. We used the free kayaks during sunset and enjoyed the stunning view from the water. The water is shallow so even if you go far, you can get off the kayak and swim. Since the hotel is east facing - sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. The water is still and shallow, and you can see all the fisherman walk up to the reef to catch the fish. The hotel also arranged a cooking lesson in Matamwe village for us - we learned how to cook ‘muchuzi’ from scratch which was a very meaningful experience. Overall- no negatives. We had the best time and will be back!

The beach is beautiful, but it's not really a beach you can swim on - there's a big tidal range - when it comes in it's quite choppy with lots of seaweed, and when it's out its corally with lots of urchins. But it's interesting to watch the local people looking for octopus and shellfish every day. It's quite a quiet area - all the bars are part of hotels. A few nice local restaurants around. Quite a lot of beach touts, which we found off putting. Not loads of activities to do in the area - 1/2 day snorkelling/dolphin watching trips at Mnemba Island basically.

Me and my wife had an amazing stay and we enjoyed every single day from our holiday. The hotel has a very positive vibe and everyone is there to make sure your are having a wonderful stay. The food it was on our taste and we never felt that we are missing something. And the most important is the staff, they will always serve you with smile and they really mean it not just to do their job! We will recommend this place to our friends who will wish to visit Zanzibar!

It is located near a small village. the beach is in front of the hotel, it isn’t the best place to swim but it is the perfect place to see local life of the village people and the fish market. Great staff, very kind, friendly and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and very large. If you book the dinner, you can eat a dish (starter or main course) at lunch and the other at dinner. The food is very good! The room is very nice and big!

Hebe Bungalows Lodge is a unique lodging on the northeast shore of Zanzibar. The lodge is enclosed within a high wall and security gate. The road to the lodge is unpaved and rough. It winds through the local village where poverty is evident. The location was good for my snorkeling tour near Mnemba Island. I liked my room (#7) and the view. The staff were professional and friendly. The restaurant was enjoyable and the food was good.

The room overlooking the ocean was fabulous. The food is absolutely fantastic, probably the best that we’ve eaten on our tropical holidays. Just so good. But, it’s the staff who make this just so wonderful. They are friendly but discreet, skilled but at ease. The best of Zanzibar. The beach is super for long walks and runs. The beach boys are respectful and do not insist once they know that you are not a potential customer.

It was my 4th visit to Isla bonita within the last 2 years, and I m sure this will not be the last. A hotel located in one of the most beautiful beaches of this paradise.Mr. Metwaly, the hotel manager, is working hard to develop his business and deliver the best experience to his guests. Recently, he added a gym that will help you to maintain your body shape after enjoying the delicious meals prepared in the hotel cuisine.

Matemwe beach is one of the top beaches in Zanzibar, white sand and a lot of colored little boats on the shoreline. The place is quiet and relaxing, the bar/restaurant sourronded by beautiful plants and trees. This sounds authentical african. Two steps from the restaurant and you are on the beach. This is really worth.
