Different styles from different times (african, muslim, maybe also european). Interesting experience is the market place and the night market for dinner under the stars. Also the hammam is worth to visit (with good gide)!

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices.
However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.

Dirty, smelly, full of approaching ~beach boys, sellers and beggars. Much more aggressive than up north. Mostly came for a Nakupenda tour. Nice place but be aware that it’s crowded - by lots of tourists and then of course even the aggressive up in your face wanting to touch you sellers there too.
The more upscaled beach hotels and restaurants are nice though.

Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence.
Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence. It is worth taking the boat to prison island to learn more about the history and see the turtles. 2 days is sufficient. In the evening there is a night market with different food stalls.

I’m from Greece so the beaches in Greece are similar and even better than the ones in Zanzibar so I was not overly impressed by them like most tourists.
What I didn’t like was all the people coming up to you all the time trying to sell you stuff. You tell them to go away and they insist. It’s rude and annoying.
Also Stone Town is dirty, there’s rubbish everywhere. We went outside for a walk and there were a lot of people around and they smelled bad. It’s like they don’t shower.
Too expensive for what it is, nothing is open after 10pm and hospitality (waiters and bartenders) are terrible as if they have no experience. You wait forever, and they don’t attend to you often enough.
The hotel is in a good location for Stone Town. It’s close to the beach and many restaurants, as well as the little shops. It’s one of the more modern and clean hotels in the area. The room was spacious and had AC. The breakfast was pretty good and there was quite a lot to choose from - the avocado on toast was delicious! The staff are friendly and helpful and can give advice on how/where to get your PCR test for your home flight. The roof top bar and pool have good views of the surrounding area.
Incredible value for money. Generous comfortable room, with a fabulous bed + AC, fan and fridge. Location is perfect for exploring Stone Town. The staff were wonderful, and accommodated a late check out as no one was arriving to stay in our room that day. Highly recommend their sister restaurant Archipelago, delicious food (the King Fish and Prawns were amazing) beautifully located on the beach front to watch the sun set, and romantically lit at night.
The surroundings of the hotel are real magic, the facility is in the middle of Stone Town, the historical heart of Zanzibar City, with sweet narrow streets and the soul of the island. The staff are amazing, always at your service, I needed to print 40 papers for work, they did it without charge, I forgot my jacket in the closet and went on a safari, they kept it for me and handed it to me when I got back. The beds are super comfortable. Bathroom ok.
Nice hotel right on the beach and next to the port.
Great location with everything in easy walking distance from the hotel.
Our room was spacious and clean with a huge ornate bathroom.
Beds were big and comfortable. TV, Fridge and a Kettle in the room with some tea and coffee provided.
Breakfast was ok.
The pool was nice with plenty of shaded areas and a great way to cool off after walking around the back streets of Stone Town.
Boutique style hotel close to the beach in Stone Town. Beautiful converted old Court House, lots of original features but the rooms are quite small, especially when you come from a beach resort hotel.
The staff were very helpful, we just used it as a base to explore Stone Town for 1 night.
Close to The Beach House where we would recommend for drinks and food. Also a nice Tanzanite shop opposite (next to the Park Hyatt).
This was our second time staying at Tembo. The hotel is perfectly located. Right on the beach with two pools and a great continental breakfast. Rooms are a good size and ours came with a balcony. We stayed in the annex building this time which was only a few mins walk from the main building. Staff are lovely and they even made sure we had a take away breakfast the morning we left as we had an early flight.
The old palace is wonderful to visit and the rooms are big and very comfortable. We stayed in a nice room with a balcony. The swimming pool is clean and enjoyable, definitely a good advantage of the hotel after a long walk in Stone Town during the day. 10/10 for the position as it's in the city center and all places and restaurants in stone town are reachable by foot.
Very beautiful hotel, clean, welcoming, in the city center, beautiful beach view and extra helpful staff. They allowed me to check-in early. They have a good service for tourist traveling later in the day after checking out. They provided me with a place to keep my bags and also a place to shower. Their breakfast was great. I loved the mango juice
Wonderful historic house directly in stone town. The employees have been kind and caring. The room (Suite) was spacious and is decorated with historical Charme. The food and drinks are good and at a decent price. We also did the city tour, the spice farm tour as well as some transfers from the hotel. Good service abs customer orientation.
The personnel was very helpful and available.
They helped us with everything, suggesting to us restaurants, places to visit in Stone Town and storing our luggage after checkout so we could walk around the city luggage-free until the time we had to travel to Nungwi.
To sum up, everything was very very very nice at Rumaisa hotel
Excellent location. While we only got to stay one night in Stone Town, this hotel was perfectly and conveniently located to be able to explore the area.
View from the presidential sweet to the beach was stunning.
Special shout out to Hajj for being so incredibly helpful.
The location of this hotel is perfect! It is a couple minutes from the Forodhani Market and gave us quick access to anything in Stone Town. The rooms were clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Tours were easily booked through the hotel.
- Location: The location of this hotel was central. We could walk almost anywhere in Stone Town.
- Hotel Architecture: The hotel has the most beautiful architecture and historical imagery throughout.
- Safe & Clean: We felt very safe and comfortable.
This hotel has a great location. It is close to the beach and all the major sights in stone town. Rooms are comfortable and clean and I looked forward to breakfast everyday. Very nice spanish omelets.
The hotel was vintage and very beautiful. I liked that it was close by everything in Stone Town. The breakfast was delicious and the owner of the property and the staff are very welcoming and helpful.
Location is great, just right at the Stone Town city centre. They have a nice swimming pool with a bar. Food is really nice and a tours provided are great.
Really nice hotel.
Very good location near to stone Town. Cheapest in stone Town with Breakfast.🙂. Others hotels will ask for the taxes upon arrival which is double than we booked.
