I'm an American volunteer providing non-lethal support for Ukraine during the current conflict. Like all of Ukraine, Kharkiv is under a US "Level 4 - do not travel" restriction, but I've had no issues.
There are air alarms, but if you are conscious of your environment and make good decisions, you will be fine. It's all about statistics and luck.
The people of Kharkiv are warm and welcoming. Trsnsportation in the city is working - metro, bus, Uklon, Uber, etc. The food is wonderful and the prices are low by western standards.
I particularly enjoy the rynoks (markets) throughout the city. You can find anything from car parts to soviet memoribelia at very reasonable prices.
There are many volunteer opportunities in the city and I can't wait to get back - I am at the end of my 3 month tourist visa and am applying for an extension.

I move through Kharkiv regularly in my capacity as a volunteer and aid donor to Ukraine. Kharkiv pre-war a beautiful city like most large Ukrainian cities. Kharkiv at the moment during the crisis is a different city totally, very different to Kyiv or Lyviv where for the most part life goes on and everything is open and functioning. The current Kharkiv has lost its soul slightly in that many have left and not returned, it is very quiet and deserted in many places and there is still extensive damage to the Northern suburbs and even in the city centre. There are still regular air raids and regular shelling and attempted attacks from Russia, but people are trying to get on with life. So if you wanted to explore a beautiful city at a time when it is less congested, probably a good time. Please don't let my comments deter you, as any tourist dollar is needed and people need to also see visitors as it gives them stamina and resolve knowing people have not forgotten. Kharkiv is a big city and spread out over a large area, it has two real contrasting sides, one which seems quite industrial and the other a mix of modern and old historic structures among parks and greenery. As for amenities, Kharkiv still has all you need operating at the moment and you can get very good deals on accommodation given the current climate.

Kharkiv is a city for Youth!
Kharkiv is a city for Youth! A lot of young girls, students, international students make it EU city like and even more. Very good fine dining as well as casual spots ) Cheaper then Odessa (a bit more expensive as Lviv) I did not expect to be so authentic in the downtown (but clean)

Kharkiv is not really a touristical city, but that is just the interested point about it!
There are many interested places to visit, prices are affortable, many places for eating and drinking. Also, nice parks, in the city or not too far away.
Yes, you can spend several good days here!

Shevchenko Garden Park which surrounded the Nemo Hotel-
was delightful. Loved the clean, manicured grass, the outdoor fitness
equipment , the wonderful stairs leading down to more fountains.
Sumskaya St is fascinating. Filled with all kinds of shopping. Leading
to the main square. Kharkov has a definite , young vibe with all
of the college students out between classes. Endless coffee shops,
and where else does coffee sell for less than one U.S. dollar?

Nothing very nice and interesting to see or visit, but a quiet and safe place, a lot of good restaurants, quiet parks, very low prices, good people, etc.

ENJOY!
The hotel is very impressive. The room was much larger than we expected and everything was well maintained and very clean. The staff were helpful and spoke enough English to ensure that we two non Russian speakers were able to ask for whatever we needed including a p-lug adapter as we had foolishly not brought one along. We tried both the Terrace restaurant and the one on the 11th flood and found both to serve excellent food. A lovely experience altogether.
Hotel is good place to stay for business: located in city center, has street parking next to it, and bomb shelter and restaurant at -1 floor. Room was comfortable and clean. Staff was very polite and helpful. At the time of my stay (July'2023) the restaurant has restricted open hours to 7 pm. My room had windows facing backyard, which was very green and quiet (no traffic sounds at all).
Good location, quiet, close to metro station, walking distance to center, several restaurants and Pub in same street, super markets, pharmacy, money exchange, ATM. The apartment is very convenient, and mostly for long stays. Weekly free cleaning available. Elena is very attentive to all your needs, with great discretion. I can only recommend this accommodation in Kharkov.
This is the second time I stayed at this hotel but this time I choose a pol-luxe room not a standard or economy room; it is better to spend a bit more money to be comfortable. Refrigerator and air con worked well and the bed was large and comfortable. Location is rated excellent as it is close to the Kharkov airport. See below for details.
It is the first hotel I prefer to stay in Kharkov. Although it is a bit far from the city center, transportation facilities eliminate this disadvantage. All staff are caring and helpful. Thanks to those who carefully prepared the reception and breakfast. Long live 🇺🇦Ukraine!
The hotel is somewhat close to the city center. Maidan is walking distance, and the Freedom Square is walking distance if you have time. It's located on a quiet street, so there wasn't any traffic noise. The staff was very helpful when we asked for help buying ballet tickets.
The reception of Mr. Artur was very friendly & helpful. The public transportation, the market, the supermarket, the pharmacies & all accomodations are very close. I recommend this apartment for everyone wants to stay shortly in Kharkiv, I guess it's the best choice.
The location was excellent. Large mall across the street. Blue and red metro line terminal 5 minute walk from hotel. The red line goes directly to the railway station, saving a big taxi expense. Getting a room with the balcony. It was well worth the expense.
Hotel exceeded my expectations for the price range, has everything you need - comfortable bed, coffee ordering service, en suite bathroom with good shower and the WiFi works although can be slow.
Its an old soviet style hotel which i like. It exceeded my expectations. I had 14th floor with amazing view. bed was comfortable. close to center, park, shops and metro
Excellent staff and rooms, tasty breakfast, and good location - close to the bus station, subway, and railway station. Near the hotel, there is a park and cafes.
Staff were very attentive. Hotel gorgeous, a showcase! I did get a little confused over where the closest Metro stop was, because it was winter and snow.
It is a spa hotel , good ambience and quality service and breakfast. Pool outside and inside and SPA facilities. Breakfast is really good.Good for couple.
