The Gates Hotel Key West, hotel in Key West

Offering an outdoor pool and a restaurant, the Gates Hotel Key West is located off US-1 and 11 minutes' walk to Key West Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden.

The hotels whole system was down and we couldn’t use credit card to buy any thing at the hotel, we also couldn’t get any room keys and had to find a staff member to unlock our room every time we wanted to access our room. Then they closed down our lobby so I had to walk next door to another hotel to find a staff member to unlock the door. Our room smelled like mold and it was over all an horrible experience for our spring break. Booking.com never returned my phone call as promised and I will never use them again.

FAQs about hotels in Key West

Plenty of Limes and Good Times

Key West is a gem of an island in the Florida Keys, popular with pleasure seekers and history buffs alike. As the most southern destination in the continental United States, Key West has a fascinating history, dating back to its settlement by Spanish explorers in the 16th century.

Today this little island off the coast of Florida attracts over a million cruise visitors a year through the Port of Key West. Visitors come to see Hemingway House, where Ernest Hemingway penned ‘A Farewell to Arms’. Key West Cemetery provides a unique walk through the multicultural past of the city. There are also trolley rides through the historic district of Jackson Square.

There’s more than just history to Key West, however. Smathers Beach is a place to have fun in the sun, while Mallory Square provides the chance to shop and watch a magnificent sunset. The excellent bus system helps you get around the island without a car.

Key West International Airport is a mere 6 kilometres to Duval Street, the heart of the city centre and a good place to stay for easily exploring the nearby sites. With accommodation ranging from resorts to B&Bs, Booking.com helps you get the best stay for the best price in Key West!

Key West is gorgeous and rich with history.

Key West is gorgeous and rich with history. I would call it less of a conventional beach town, as the beaches are sparse and man made because of the whole island thing. If you love the water then this is the place. Boats, jet skis, snorkeling and more are all available for you to enjoy and Duval Street is full of shopping, restaurants and bars. There are some very unique vendors with one of a kind items and lots of art appreciation from the locals. The beach stores are a little over priced on some of their beach wares, which is typical, but there is no shortage of cute and original boutiques. Rent a scooter or a golf cart when you get there. It is the best way to travel while you are there.

Was hoping it would be less crowded after Spring break but no such luck...way too crowded for us. We found FREE parking and loved the Trolley tour, Cuban coffee house and Butterfly Conservatory. Visited historic Zachary Taylor State Park which was a great history lesson.

There are so many things to do in Key West. Tons of historic sites, great beaches and views, and obviously Duval Street. Definitely check out taking a day trip to Dry Tortugas to see the National Park and do some snorkeling!!! Memorable sunsets at Mallory Square. We definitely will be back, as we ran out of time to cover it all.

Sun, fun and oh so much to see, do and eat!

Sun, fun and oh so much to see, do and eat! We enjoyed Duval Street and all it had to offer. We ate at Seaside Cafe (my favorite was lobster pizza and the Mojiots). We took the ferry to Latitudes on Sunset Key, it was absolutely amazing. The food and the ambiance was phenomenal. Please be advised, reservations well in advance are required. We visited all the hot spots for drinks and entertainment. We loved breakfast at TwoFriends and Big Cheezies. You can walk or ride bikes all over. We did not rent a car but did rent a golf cart one day. That was fun and we felt safe the entire time.

    Beautiful place to visit.

Beautiful place to visit. We really enjoyed the tours we took. A great place to eat was Rams Head Southernmost restaurant. Very generous portions and a great atmosphere. Pizza Joe's also had really good pizza by the slice. We found the best way to get around was to use Uber or walking. There is no parking and the traffic is very heavy. We drove to Key West but next time we would fly in and use Uber to get around.

It was very crowded with tourists and finding places to eat for children was difficult. Eating was quite expensive. We took the trolley tour which was a nice way to see the area. Enjoyed the Hemingway House, Truman House and Butterfly Conservatory. We found it easier to stroll the side streets and Upper Duval because they were a bit quieter.

Good air conditioning. Nice big fairly comfortable bed although it was very high up! (I’m 5’3 and had to jump up lol). Balcony is a nice place to sit looking into the small but stunning garden and pool. Pool towels are available at no extra cost. Good location close to most things in key west. Clean property which seems hard to come by! Also got free parking, car park is situated on a separate road but is only a few minutes walk away from the hotel.

Exceptionally clean, quiet, and had incredibly comfortable beds. There were little comfy nooks with hammocks and rockers throughout the property which allowed for secluded down time. It is a great place to stay that is in walking distance to the Key West Express and Duval Street, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone heading to Key West.

This resort looks like it was built as the only thing near it. One could hang out there for a week, lots to experience. It was fun, anachronistic, a little worn. Unfortunately we only came to sleep, had stuff to do elsewhere. It was shockingly expensive, but the cheapest hotel with private rooms and baths that we could find near Key West.

Great hotel with large room. Location is quite far out of the centre of Key West but there is a shuttle bus to take you in and bring you back. Lovely pool and very close to the oceanfront. Some planes overhead due to proximity to airport but didn't bother us and didn't hear them overnight. A great base to explore Key West.

Most importantly, the hotel is clean. It is in a good location to go to Key West attractions. It also has a nice outdoor bar/liquor store and an ice cream/donut stand. The staff were nice. I didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, but the continental breakfast did look good. The muffins appeared to be homemade.
