The main purpose of going to Franschhoek is to eat in some of the fabulous restaurants. Apart from that there is not a lot else to do and it can be very hot making it uncomfortable just to walk around the village. If self catering there are very good grocery stores including Woolworths Food and a relatively new and modern Checkers. There is also a large Pick n Pay but it is a much lower standard than the other two which are more up market.

We love Franschhoek and could easily have stayed longer.

We love Franschhoek and could easily have stayed longer. We love wandering along Huguenot Street with its many shops and small restaurants and the market on Saturdays and Sundays. We visited Haute Cabriere, Mont Rochelle and Mullineux & Leeu. We enjoyed an excellent lunch in all and had the best wine tasting in Mullineux & Leeu. On the way out we had “high tea” (at 10.30 am) in Orangerie at Le Lude which was quite amazing

Loved Franschhoek but 2 or 3 nights here would probably be enough as town is lovely but small. A great base for doing the winre tram and visiting the various wineries but many can also be reached just as easiliy from Stellenbosch which seemed a little livelier and more going on. Liked the market with drinks and music. Drivers take note the pass into Franschhoek (the R45 from the R43 or R321) is closed 0900-1700 weekdays until the end of Feb 2024!

    Franschoek is a gem!

Franschoek is a gem! Fabulous places to stay, a most beautiful Main Street with so much character, beautiful shops and restaurants, and the Wine Tram. This runs like clockwork and is a perfect way to visit several wine estates without needing to use your car. The estates are fabulous and you stop as long as you like, hopping on the next tram when you are ready!

The wineries around Franschhoek were lovely.

The wineries around Franschhoek were lovely. Would also recommend a visit to the Pigcasso winery - I know this seems weird for those there for the wine and food but for some reason the place is very nice and chill. If you are in town on Sunday, the markets were great and you could get coffee and listen to music. I would suggest hiring a car particularly if your hotel is not in the main street. But there is a tram which takes you to the different vineyards and seemed very regular. As to vineyards, we had a lovely breakfast at Boschedal winery.

Tourist town beautifully situated in a valley with towering mountains on either side. Plenty to do with wine estates, biking, the wine tram, restaurants, drives, hikes and shops. Stellenbosch is an easy drive to include while staying there. We stayed in a self-catering apartment in the middle of a three week trip and loved eating in for a change. There is a large Pick-n-Pay with all you need at very good prices. It is an expensive town: market souvenirs were 50% higher to double the cost of the same in Stellenbosch, the shops are high end, and the restaurants similarly priced. This is offset by the lovely feel and the valley.

Beautiful house with everything you would need available. Very private. Lot of space in and around the house inclusive the extra sleeping room in the back of the garden, which effectively is a studio on its own with its own patio. Everything there to host an extra couple except the kitchen which is in the main house. JJ is a great host and very easy reachable. Swimming pool is very small but lovely to cool off. Easy walking distance from the centre of Franschhoek. Very quiet and pleasant neighbourhood. A great place!

Allen and his wife run a lovely place. Both veterans in the hospitality industry they live and breathe tender, loving and care. Pool is lovely with fab views still very relaxing. Breakfast also a favo, kitchen staff is skilled. Again, much eye for detail. Upon check out I needed to reallocate to an airbnb in town and Allen dropped me off personally as it was too hot to go on foot. Again, Above and beyond!! Will come again!

La Cotte is a breathtakingly beautiful place - the setting was unparalleled and too picturesque to even begin to describe - we adored it. We stayed in a self catering cottage which had the added bonus of a gorgeous verandah complete with fireplace with logs and everything needed to make a beautiful fire, and we looked out onto the most beautiful verdant lawn with gorgeous pool, and a forest in which we saw owls and other birds

Breakfast included, in a beautiful surrounding with a small river. Absolutely a beautiful view of the vineyard as well when you exit your lodge room. Fantastic pool. But the STAFF, especially EZNA, is beyond helpful and the most wonderful person. The support they provide is above and beyond. Highly recommended. Only 5km away from the Wine Tram, 8 km away from Franschhoek area as well. Please go, you will not regret it.

Fantastic breakfast, with a homemade cake and coffee in the afternoon for guests. Thanks Milliscent for your care and attention to us. Great location, just a few steps from Franschhoek Main Street with plenty of excellent restaurants and shops. Overall, a very comfortable hotel and one which I would certainly book in the future. Security is paramount here. Parking on site.

Mont d'Or is located in central Franschhoek within easy walking distance of most of the town's best bars and restaurants. The rooms are adequate, the WiFi is good and the breakfast is excellent. The hotel's grounds are well-maintained and there is a big swimming pool and plenty of secure parking. I enjoyed my stay at Mont d'Or and would return.

Auberge Chanteclair is far more than a hotel. The staff and the atmosphere there truly makes you feel at home. The breakfast is delicious, the staff goes out of their way to assist you and the scenery in and around the property is stunning. Would give more than 5 stars if I could. The best hotel I have stayed in for a long time.

the hotel has a stunning, homey feel. It was raining when we got there- we were offered coffee during check-in, then taken on a tour of the facilities to familiarise ourselves. The location is excellent - not too far from the hustle and bustle that is Franschhoek, but far enough away to be quiet, should you want that.

Great hotel in Franschhoek - perfect location in town and just what we needed for a 1 night stay. The pool area was so lovely and relaxing - a proper little sun trap to relax in after a day of wine tasting. Staff super friendly and looked after our bags whilst we were out and before the room was ready.
