The beaches and views from the top of Hoekwil or Map of Africa are too beautiful. The nature walks and general magical feeling of the place makes it an ideal holiday destination. It is close to the large town of George and Knysna with markets available on Saturdays,
You would need a car to get around Wilderness.

One of the most stunning (and our favourite) beaches in the World.
Plenty of good restaurants - great value.
Loved the view from para gliding site but Map of Africa did not meet expectations.
Very restful / having had busy 3 weeks beforehand.
Restaurants - Las salinas; girls 👧 n the square; joplins steak house; pommodoro - all excellent and good value. Las S was our favourite; walking distance; good food and excellent service.

We stayed three nights in Wilderness and that was probably the perfect length of stay. It's a small town, but a very beautiful location. The long beach is nice, if you like that sort of thing. However, exploring the lagoon on an 'eco-cruise' is a 'must' and probably the most enjoyable adventure on our three-week stay in South Africa. Wilderness is also blessed with some good restaurants, 'The Girls On The Square' deserves an accolade, but 'Serendipity' is in a league of its own - one of the best restaurants I've visited anywhere in the world.

This is an amazingly clean and beautiful property.
This is an amazingly clean and beautiful property. It has a lovely pool with sunbeds and seating area to rear of property and the front of the property overlooks the most stunning beach. Little extras in the room make it absolutely fabulous. The hosts are extremely welcoming and friendly as is the family dog Duke. Would highly recommend.

The peacefulness of Wilderness is just amazing
We wanted to chill and switch off which is exactly what we did . The beach is amazing and it was fabulous to walk the beach every morning and hear the ocean
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Loft for 2 nights during our 2 week holiday in South Africa and I wish we could have stayed for longer! This is one of the most stunning places we have ever stayed in, the views are absolutely breathtaking of Wilderness beach. The apartment itself is perfectly situated in the hills and is fully set up for everything you need. It’s clean, tidy and comfortable. The check in process with Koos was incredibly quick and easy. We can highly recommend the loft, I hope we can return again in the future!
A comfortable, spacious apartment overlooking the Indian Ocean. Peaceful, rural location in the hills above Wilderness town.. Kitchen is well equipped. Gas water heater and gas stove, so you can still shower and cook during load shedding. Comfortable bed with plenty of blankets during winter. WIFI worked well. Appreciated having Netflix for movies in the evening. The host, Darryl, is very friendly and helpful. He clearly loves where he lives and had lots of great suggestions for hikes/walks in the area.. Recommended.
Wilderness is one of my favourite places in SA and it was great to stay at Dune Beach House, a wonderful place right on the beach. Most rooms overlook the ocean which is worth the money. The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful, especially Gary, also when I had a special request, thank you so much! The breakfast was fantastic, with starting off with a great big plate of fruits. We also got great tips on what to do in Wilderness, so we went kayaking which really was a wonderful experience.
This is a wonderful place to stay. Centrally located in the Wilderness. The sea views from all rooms and whhen sitting at breakfast are perfect. We highly recommend the Dolphin Room for couples wanting to destress and enjoy amazing sea views. Dolphins also regularly swim past in the sea below and are easily spotted from the view in the room. The manager and staff at the lodge treat you as if you are family and are very helpful.
It is the perfect hotel in the village with a really spectacular view of the lagoon. The room is really comfortable with a unique vibe. I totally recommend staying here for at least 3 nights for Wilderness exploring. The hotel is placed too close to a good restaurant, where you can get really delicious meal. Also, it is too close to the lagoon and ocean beaches. The owners are so kind and helped me with my trouble.
Being encapsulated in nature but also a stones throw away from wilderness centre , the two top rooms were beautiful and comfortable with great views of the Indian ocean and dunes. great having the entire place to yourself with all the facilities and conveniences of a home but with the luxury touches of a hotel.
Location directly on the beach and also use of the gardens for sunbathing. Very large room. Breakfast room had great views and breakfast was very good. Hotel also had other sitting areas which could be used by guests. Very efficient laundry service.
Great location where you can do daily walks from into the village of Wilderness or plan your trips to one of the many places / activities round the area
Open parking but safe and secure
New Spar just a few meters away
Above great restaurant
While it is across the street from the beach, it is a very unbusy road. It is a nice distance outside of Wilderness. Still a few minutes drive, but feels quite remote. The beach and bluffs are amazing.
This was self catering therefore no breakfast. But the place is lovely. Close to top Restaurants to choose from. Stunning view, a Wonder of God. The unit had everything. On the beach. Wow!
Loved the location. Walking distance into wilderness village. As well as direct access into the river right across the road.
Also loved that they were pet friendly.
Loved everything! The room was in perfect condition and the hotel is well maintained. Staff was exceptional and the stay truly remarkable. a Must in Wilderness
