This is a grand old house that is best described as well lived in. Needs a bit of updating. The pool needs some attention. Not at all inviting. I don’t understand why they don’t just get an expert in to give it a thorough clean without doing it themselves.
The staff are wonderful.

A real student town but also filled with international tourists so a good mix of places to suit both crowds. Some good value for money eateries such as Java and Die Vrije Burger, and also high end restuarants for those with a bigger budget. The mall has all the main shops and its easy to walk about town or even go by bike. Close to explore the wine areas around town , but also for a beach visit at The Strand. So close to beach and berg.
Coopmanhuijs Hotel is in a very central situation in Stellenbosch, and the visitor has a huge choice of coffee shops, restaurants and wine bars in the same street. Such a lovely atmosphere. Loved the traditional decor in bedrooms and public spaces which gave an authentic Cape feel. The restaurant is very highly regarded, the food is delicious and they always seem to have a space for hotel residents, even if fully booked. The staff are all wonderful and go above and beyond to make guests feel comfortable.
I liked the room with the terrace and also the complimentary bottle of red wine in the room.
The wine degustation was also very nice and for free.
The wines, in overall, are very tasty and you cannot go wrong with any of them. Our favourite was Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The staff was very helpful and the breakfest plenty and wider choice.
We also liked the fact that the property was not located in the Stellenbosch city but very close to the city, as it was surrounded by nature and quiet.
Everything was wonderful, from the kind staff to the lovely appointed rooms. We stayed in the Whimsy Rooms or the old rooms of the hotel and we preferred it to the new modern rooms (which were also excellent). We had a lovely stay and will definitely go back again! The hotel is situated in the heart of Stellenbosch with so many restaurants around it...and the wonderful street atmosphere and buzz on the doorstep!
Amazing gem of a winery and villas in Stellenbosch. The view from the terrace was incredible, the bed was super comfortable, great facilities for braai- you have everything you need and can even have wine brought to the room while you are out! plus the villa is cleaned in the week even though it’s self catering, just perfect. Thank you to Pia, Thulani, Carmen, Lilian for just an amazing stay.
Modern, clean apartment within walking distance of central areas for restaurants etc. Small local shopping centre within 5 minutes walk for groceries and small café. Quiet area even though very close to university buildings with lots of students about. Secure gated building. Agent very friendly and responsive to calls for information or help.
Fabulous location right in the center of Stellenbosch. Just a few meters away from a variety of restaurants and interesting shops. We had a very well appointed two bedroom flat, which was very suitable for our needs. Service throughout the hotel was excellent from the reception staff to the housekeeping and to the parking assistants.
Beautiful wine estate on the country side of Stellenbosch. We had a great stay for 2 nights and visited the vineyards in the close by valley. The staff is absolutely great and super helpful. The pool is small but a good place to relax. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a peaceful stay in nature.
It is a beautiful spot outside Stellenbosch. Approx. 10min drive to the city center, which is very cute. It's close though to some very pretty wineyards. The guesthouse has a nice garden, very good food, breakfast good (no buffet so the choice was rather small), the staff was very friendly. One night they had live music.
Perfect location in the centre of Stellenbosch, everything within walking distance.
Very friendly staff with smooth communication.
Comfortable spacious room with air-conditioning, nice bed and well decorated.
Lovely garden with sun, swimming pool and enough relaxing chairs.
Overall we had a very pleasant stay!
This property deserves its distinguished reputation. It is a premier destination in Stellenbosch. I would recommend this hotel for many reasons. The dining was exceptional, our room was beautiful. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The service and hospitality were perfect.

The location of the hotel was excellent, we were able to walk and explore Stellenbosch by foot and walk to all the restaurants. We were able to Uber to the wine farms. The Reception team were helpful and friendly
Our go to place to stay when we visit Stellenbosch! Clean, comfortable, very well equipped self catering accommodation in an excellent location. Friendly, helpful hosts.
Very modern. Loved the large bed (not like most hotels with small double beds)
Good location - while not in the heart of stellenbosch, it’s only a couple of minutes walk
Amazing location - very close to Stellenbosch central and also the wine farms. The estate is gorgeous and very secure. Waking up to the view is also exceptional.
