The main purpose of going to Franschhoek is to eat in some of the fabulous restaurants. Apart from that there is not a lot else to do and it can be very hot making it uncomfortable just to walk around the village. If self catering there are very good grocery stores including Woolworths Food and a relatively new and modern Checkers. There is also a large Pick n Pay but it is a much lower standard than the other two which are more up market.

We love Franschhoek and could easily have stayed longer.
We love Franschhoek and could easily have stayed longer. We love wandering along Huguenot Street with its many shops and small restaurants and the market on Saturdays and Sundays. We visited Haute Cabriere, Mont Rochelle and Mullineux & Leeu. We enjoyed an excellent lunch in all and had the best wine tasting in Mullineux & Leeu. On the way out we had “high tea” (at 10.30 am) in Orangerie at Le Lude which was quite amazing

Loved Franschhoek but 2 or 3 nights here would probably be enough as town is lovely but small. A great base for doing the winre tram and visiting the various wineries but many can also be reached just as easiliy from Stellenbosch which seemed a little livelier and more going on. Liked the market with drinks and music.
Drivers take note the pass into Franschhoek (the R45 from the R43 or R321) is closed 0900-1700 weekdays until the end of Feb 2024!

Franschoek is a gem!
Franschoek is a gem! Fabulous places to stay, a most beautiful Main Street with so much character, beautiful shops and restaurants, and the Wine Tram. This runs like clockwork and is a perfect way to visit several wine estates without needing to use your car. The estates are fabulous and you stop as long as you like, hopping on the next tram when you are ready!

The wineries around Franschhoek were lovely.
The wineries around Franschhoek were lovely. Would also recommend a visit to the Pigcasso winery - I know this seems weird for those there for the wine and food but for some reason the place is very nice and chill. If you are in town on Sunday, the markets were great and you could get coffee and listen to music.
I would suggest hiring a car particularly if your hotel is not in the main street. But there is a tram which takes you to the different vineyards and seemed very regular.
As to vineyards, we had a lovely breakfast at Boschedal winery.

Tourist town beautifully situated in a valley with towering mountains on either side. Plenty to do with wine estates, biking, the wine tram, restaurants, drives, hikes and shops. Stellenbosch is an easy drive to include while staying there.
We stayed in a self-catering apartment in the middle of a three week trip and loved eating in for a change. There is a large Pick-n-Pay with all you need at very good prices.
It is an expensive town: market souvenirs were 50% higher to double the cost of the same in Stellenbosch, the shops are high end, and the restaurants similarly priced. This is offset by the lovely feel and the valley.
The room was lovely and very spacious, Unfortunately due to excessive rain we had a flood in our bathroom and had to move rooms, we were moved to a two bedroom villa with private pool which was a bit of a bonus!
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was freshly cooked to order.
Unfortunately due to flooding in the area the wine tram was cancelled which was our main reason for visiting Franschhoek but this was obviously beyond the control of the hotel
A wonderful hotel and very friendly and attentive hosts who always go above and beyond. We had a very beautiful and clean room, all the interior design elements were well chosen. The entire interior of the hotel well conveys the atmosphere of the city of Franschhoek. The hotel is well located. If there are not enough spaces on site, there is free convenient parking very close.
The breakfast is amazing, very tasty and beautifully presented.
The location is perfect. Close and within walking distance of all the restaurants on the main street. The room was spacious and comfy with a beautiful view of the pool and mountains in the background. The staff was amazing, super friendly and eager to assist. The breakfast was 5 star and probably better than most upmarket hotels. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary there and will definitely return next year.
Wonderful breakfast with a la carte options and a buffet with fresh products. The level of service is exceptional, the hotel offers a free shuttle service which is very useful if you don't have a rental car like we had. We could also take a shower before our flight after we checked out without paying extra. Location is in the middle of Franschhoek, very convenient. Overall we had a great stay, thanks!
the hosts were absolutely amazing! we
were treated like family. the location is also perfect. you are far enough not hear any noise yet close enough to Franshoek to be within 5 minute ride by car.
this is a self catering property but the hosts make sure you are all good. simply couldn’t have asked for more. best way to spend New Year ever!
Exceptional hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly, Amy in particular is an absolute gem. She went out of her way to make sure we were well looked after. Rooms are beautiful and extremely comfortable. The pool area is great. Breakfast was lovely, the freshly baked bread was a lovely touch. Highly recommended.
The 7 Koppies is a hidden gem nested in the hills of Franschhoek with the most beautiful view on the mountains. It is a small boutique hotel with 7 rooms, the decor is beautiful and authentic, and the staff is very nice. We had the best time there and I cannot recommend this place enough. Simply stunning!
A beautiful & small hotel on the edge of Franschhoek. We were treated very well by the owners & amazing staff and supported us to feel more comfortable. Amazing breakfast was served every morning with 4 different types of eggs benedict to choose from & cold buffet. We wish we had more time to spend here!
We were attending a wedding in Paarl so the location was perfect. It is also convenient for visiting the many wine farms and restaurants in Franschhoek. The bed was super comfortable and the room very spacious with a huge balcony, and was very peaceful .
The hotel is beautiful and the staff are fantastic, especially Byron. He helped with bookings, reservations, recommendations, etc. We felt so welcome and pampered! Thank you!
And they also look after the environment, which is a huge plus.
The location was lovely, we were close to all shops, pubs, wine tram and wine farms. The market was only 5 minutes from the property, i think this place has the best location in Franschhoek. We will book again when we are in Franschhoek.
The hotel is very close to the centre of Franschhoek and therefore within easy walking distance of the restaurants and shops. We found the hosts and staff to be most helpful which made our short stay very relaxing and enjoyable.
An amazing gem in the village of Franschhoek. The personal attention and friendliness of the owner is worth a repeat visit!
This definitely beats a hotel room and the garden is to dream off.
We will be back.
This is great unit located close to town. The unit is new and well equipped for a self catering unit. Great beds and views of the mountains from the balcony. Thanks
