I lived in Bloem for 9 years, it was great in the 90's.
I lived in Bloem for 9 years, it was great in the 90's.
Unfortunately, the city has deteriorated massively.
I would not go to Bloemfontein for leisure or tourism.
It is central to stop on the way to/from somewhere or if you have some work / business / family-event to attend to.
Great place to shoot a dystopic movie seen!

I love the city and especially the fabulous friends and family who live in Bloem - not exactly a holiday destination but defnitely the place to visit for cricket or rugby games.
Traveling around is easy and getting to Bloem is very easy on the highway

We spend half a day at the Boer War Museum, inside and all outside exhibits -it is well worth seeing! It gave us not only a much better understanding about cause for the war, the battle actions and the political aims of all parties involved, but also the extreme suffering of non-combatant population mainly women and children!
A great deal of care and attention has gone into the room about the concentration camps.
At the exit of the museum’s building is a light room with some comfy sofas inviting you to rest your legs and browse the different books about the Boer War.
After that tough but necessary topic relax with a drink from the coffee shop just across the lawn… it has excellent coffee!

I grew up and went to boarding school in Bloemfontein.
I grew up and went to boarding school in Bloemfontein. The city has deteriorated under the ANC government. Bloemfontein municipality I believe is amongst the many South African municipalities that are now bankrupt. As a result the maintenance of the city is poor and neglected. Many roads need repairs as the tar has warn away down to the gravel beneath. Street light can be intermittent and traffic lights are also an issue as some work and many do not. It is quite ridiculous, but street names on the curbs have been painted over in black paint and have adverts for local businesses on them. Street name signs are now missing generally. The suburbs where the whites live are generally still in a reasonable condition. This is the new South Africa under the ANC government and it is a disaster. As far as the CBD of Bloemfontein is concerned, it must be avoided as it is dangerous. It used to be a first world area with major shops, businesses, offices, cinemas etc. I went through it once and will never go there again. Remember, I grew up there and knew it very well.

Best Restaurant in Bloem Bella Casa Italian in the Westdene...
Best Restaurant in Bloem Bella Casa Italian in the Westdene area, we visited it twice and highly recommend to all travellers to Bloem! Also, there are 2 lovely Woolworths Cafe's for the usual high standard of coffee and meals.
Exceptional all around. They are a little ways out of town but if you have transportation that’s the best thing because Bloemfontein is a little bit dirty. Initially I couldn’t get my rooms together but they were able to correct that on the second night. I feel Ariana went above and beyond. Cannot talk enough about the feeling of inclusion when we went to harvest olives.
They make you feel like family.
*We traveled with 2 of our grand children. After a long trip they had space and interesting things to explore.
*we did'nt feel boxed in, although the space indide is limited.
* we felt save.
*linnen and interior simple, clean, interesting.
*home, far away from home
* near N1-we didn't need to strugle though Bloemfontein.
* enough space between the chalets.
What a value for money Guest House. Loved the place. The receptionist; Martin; was so obliging and receptful. He went out of his way to ensure that we were comfortable in our rooms. The breakfast was excellent and more than sufficient better; than breakfast at established hotels I stayed at in Cape Town. Definitely going back there. Quiet and peaceful.
Pepper Tree is conveniently located just outside Bloemfontein. The guest house is surrounded by a beautiful, tree-lined garden and guests can also relax on the veranda. The room was spotless, stylishly decorated and has a good quality mattress and linen.
Breakfast was tasty and staff friendly. I would definitely recommend Pepper Tree Guesthouse
It is a beautiful room, exactly like the pictures. Friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely make it our home away from home when we visit Bloemfontein. When we booked our stay we didn't check if it was animal friendly, and our hostess was so kind she made it possible for our little puppy to stay.
The staff is super friendly and always feel at home. A lady named Khanyisile has the most beautiful personality, and every time My family comes over, she is happy to see us and welcomes us. We have made this hotel our home when visiting Bloemfontein.
Reception was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was awesome!!!
Rooms are spacious and well maintained.
Great outdoor space with swimming pool.
The neighbourhood was quiet and very safe.
Very close to Mimosa mall and Mediclinic Bloemfontein
I loved the location, close to a mall and not far from restaurants. The facilities were amazing, and in the heat of a Bloemfontein summer it was wonderful to have airconditioning. Beautifully designed and decorated and the bathroom was lovely too.
The host and staff are so friendly and helpful. The Breakfast was good and gave you the energy you need for the day. The swimming pool was a bonus. Everything is well-organized
This is our new house when we visit Bloemfontein. .
The room was comfortable and so luxurious. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was scrumptious. Such a serene and peaceful hotel. Will definitely book it again when I come to Bloemfontein
Super clean place, spacious (I can run around), comfortable King Size bed it comes with so many extras that you'd expect at a 5 Star Premium Hotel, Super friendly staff member. Give that lady a Bells! 😄
Some of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The location is good in the centre of Bloemfontein. Safe off-street parking. The room was comfortable and reasonably well appointed.
