If you are planning a trip along the garden route then Knysna is a must visit spot. The views across the lagoon and the Knysna Heads are amazing and so many options for accommodation from camping by the lagoon to 5* hotels.
It is also a good base to explore the Eastern end on the garden route right up to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
There is also a number of fantastic mountain passes to drive up to the Karoo, but make sure you have a good vehicle and a good head for heights. Knysna is fantastic and well worth a visit.

As a place to stay, Knysna is rather small, and moreover less secure after dark than other places. Knysna and its islands/view points can e.g. easily be visited from Plettenberg where there is much more choice in terms of restaurants. 1 day is more than enough for Knysna.

The views are magnificent.
The views are magnificent. The surrounding areas are also very worthy of visits. Plettenburg Bay, Tsitsikamma, Sedgefield and Wilderness are excellent. Something great to do every day!
Knysna itself is a little run down and touristy, after all it straddles a motorway (N2), but there are places that are tucked away which are charming.....one goes there however for the views!

Knysna is a quaint town surrounded by lush forests and a stunning lagoon. The iconic Knysna Heads are simply mesmerizing. The clothing shops are a bit pricey and one has to ensure you have enough spending money to have a good time.
We enjoyed our meals at Thirty-Four South. Knysna is definitely a tourist
destination.

Lovely beach community with a ton of places to explore outside of the village. The village itself has a ton of breakfast and dining options. One in particular "The Nest" was absolutely wonderful.
From Knysna it's an easy drive to several beaches, we enjoyed the beaches on Leisure Island as well as Buffalo Beach just outside of town. A drive to "The Heads" is also an absolute must! Stunning views of town and the mouth of the bay. Easy to find on Google Maps.
Knysna is also wonderful central location to also see other sites both to the North and South. To the North it's an easy drive to Plettenberg Bay to visit the Sanctuaries of Birds of Eden, Monkey Land and Elephant Park (all located in the same area). There is also Knysna Elephant Park for something closer.
To the South it's an easy 35 min drive to the town of Wilderness. Here we were able to rent kayaks with Eden Adventures located on the grounds of the Fairy Knows Hotel. The local kayak route takes you on a gentle glide up the river to the local waterfall, very easy and highly recommended.
The Amanzi Boutique Hotel is superbly located on leisure island looking across the lagoon toward Knysna Heads. Our room had an amazing balcony where we could relax, sunbathe and enjoy that view. The staff (and there seemed to be quite a few of them) all went out of their way to ensure that every request we made was attended to and we wanted for nothing. Advice on restaurants etc was very good; the restaurant shuttle ride (200 Rand, return) was very comfortable and prompt.
Lovely guest house in amazing prime spot in Knysna, opposite the lagoon with views towards The Heads.
Michelle and her team were extremely helpful, the rooms were spotless and the breakfast was excellent.
The guesthouse has a wonderful, bird filled garden with pool.
I would definitely recommend the Knysna Belle and would love to visit again one day.
Fantastic view on Knysna's lagoon and the Heads, you see all of the town from a few blocks above main street. Panoramic terrace. Rooms #1 to #3 are huge and have incredible direct view over the lagoon and the town. Staff was very friendly. furniture is a bit old fashioned but very tasteful, bed is very comfortable. Strelitzia was very helpful.
the units are beautiful spacious and provide everything you need to make your stay comfortable. i like that you have the self catering and hotel restaurant option. the gym sauna and heated indoor pool is just a big bonus and i loved spending time there. breakfast is amazing good quality and fresh with lots of variety.
Very clean and spacious. Cindy was very welcoming too and prompt to answer all our queries. So many beds to choose from and having access to 3 bathrooms in the house was good for 2 families. It’s just a 5 min drive to the waterfront, the heads and knysna gin/ maillard baking co. The braai was huge and good.
Balcony suites overlooking the stunning lagoon. Friendly staff. On time service. Nice walking distance to a variety of restaurants on the Island. Hotel has its own turbine water club that offers sailing across the lagoon and better rates when compared to the waterfront and other charters.
Comfortable and spacious rooms.
Friendly host, he made us feel welcome and gave recommendations for food specials in the area.
Good location for a first visit to Knysna, situated between the Knysna Heads and the waterfront.
Would recommend Blended Country Restaurant for nearby dining.
210@ the Gallery is a fantastic Garden Route getaway! The location is perfect! Within walking distance to restaurants, shopping malls, boutiques and the Knysna Waterfront. The studio is very well kitted out for a very comfortable stay. The air con is a big plus!!! We'll def be back.
Nicely furnished bright apartment in a beautiful complex, just a few steps from the Knysna waterfront. Great for self catering in the well equipped kitchen - but also plenty of great restaurants around. We travelled with a baby and received a cot and some toys - really appreciated
A lovely guest house, perfectly located close to the city center and the the Knysna waterfront. The apartment has beautiful views of the Knysna heads, from the deck, lounge area and bedroom. The owner, Johan was friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay
Janine was very kind to let us know everything we can explore about the Knysna and we followed it religiously to have the best time here. The apartment has a great view of the heads as well as the lagoon. Would definitely book again and recommend to others.
What a great place to overnight in Knysna. Affordable rates and delicious breakfast.
Excellent view over lagoon. Its clear the host runs the property to high standards, with attention to detail.
Well done Anita, will definately visit again.
Wonderfull view and had all necessities for a self catering unit. Also included activities such as kayak and stand up paddle board with a breathtaking private beach. Felt very safe with visible security and surprise room cleaning.
Spacious rooms, quiet location.
Easy access to (dog friendly) Fishermans Walk and Forest Walks.
Beautiful views onto the lagoon and Knysna.
Easy parking by the reception (you walk to the room or will be taken by Golf cart).
I really loved the location, the hotel is right in town and we could walk to everywhere. We were right in front of the Waterfront which was very convenient. The staff was also very friendly. The breakfast was also delicious.
Great location within walking distance of the Knysna waterfront with a beautiful view of the lagoon. Modern and tasteful interior decorations, all the necessary appliances and facilities. Easy check in and out.
The location is excellent with a good view of the lagoon and Heads.
