There is not really that much to do in Salta from a tourist...
There is not really that much to do in Salta from a tourist perspective. Better to spend your time in the surrounding areas such as Purmamarca, Tilcara, Humahueca and Salinas Grandes north of Salta or Cafayate (highly recommended) to the southwest of Salta via the Quebrada Las Conchas. Stop at the Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat) and El Anfiteatro (the Amphitheatre) for spectacular scenery.

We loved the historic neighborhood we stayed in, but others might find it a bit tawdry. No one spoke English, so brush up on your Spanish. We got along ok. Close to whatever we needed. Be sure to go to the market. Day trips were awesome. Buses were questionably reliable and usually full. Grocery store near us had everything we needed. We usually cooked at home but found a good bakery, pizza place and empanadas nearby. Be aware that if you need to do laundry, you take it to a bodega where they do the laundry for you. That was a new one for us. Walking on the pedestrian area with stores galore was a highlight. The plaza de Julio was awesome. Be sure to go there. Leave enough time if you are a detail oriented person. We stayed 16 days and it wasn't enough.

Salta sits in a valley surrounded by amazing natural beauty...
Salta sits in a valley surrounded by amazing natural beauty in every direction. The city itself is a bit run-down, narrow broken sidewalks, poor street drainage after rains, old buildings. But it has it's charm!
There are a few great neighborhoods for food, bars and cafes. Nice teleferico to see city from, great museum of High Altitude with preserved Inca children. And going North to Tres Cruces or South to Cafayate will astonish your eyes. Gorgeous natural scenery!!

Salta is a nice, tranquil, smaller feel of an Argentinian...
Salta is a nice, tranquil, smaller feel of an Argentinian city than say Mendoza or BA. It is a tad run down, broken sidewalks, bit more trash on streets than other cities, but it has charm regardless. The people are very friendly, never once did I feel unsafe anywhere day or night, and the surroundings/nature/beauty of the landscape is gorgeous! It is a great city to base from and explore all that the province has to offer.
Without a doubt the best restaurant with the best prices is on Calle Balcarce and called '802 Cocina a las Brasas'. I ate there 4 times!!
Also go to MAAM and see the preserved frozen Inca children found on a mountain top in 1999.

Lots to see and Lucas helped us to get settled.
Lots to see and Lucas helped us to get settled. He was great. Gave us information about the most important museum and organized tickets.
We went to the restaurant neigbourhood and saw oena dancing and music.
Excellent historic hotel (built 1942) in the centre of Salta (therefore excellent location). We had stayed previously and had an executive room at the back with a wonderful view. Even though we had a cheaper executive room at the front this time it was still very good and we did not notice any street noise. The breakfast is good ( coffee not so good), some channels on TV had subtitled English films. A private car park and behind it a pool set in its own area. Bath in bathroom, fridge and good wifi, old air conditioner but efficient.
Price/quality wise = 10! Good place to stay in Salta approx. 10 minutes walk from the Plaza and 20 minutes from the bus terminal. Spacious dorm downstairs with comfortable beds. The dorm upstairs was less spacious and felt quite packed, but had an ensuite bathroom as bonus. There were also separate toilets and showers (the ones I had were good). Lockers for smaller bags outside the rooms. WiFi worked well and it’s a good place to meet other people. And not to forget the very friendly and helpful staff😃
I had a great stay in Salta that was made particularly pleasant staying at Accueillant. Eduardo and his family are all fantastic hosts and very accommodating for whatever requests I had. They also arranged for tours around the Salta area. The place is a bit off center, but a nice walk to the city and all the amenities are found around the hostel. It made for a quiet stay, which was perfect for me.
My favourite location to stay in Argentina so far. Rooms are perfect, location is great and the check in process is seamless. You are close to the nightlife and it has a really nice coffee shop connected to the building. Apartment was spotlessly clean, shower was really nice and it has a hair dryer. Price was really good. Would be my first recommendation to anyone travelling to Salta
The location is excellent for exploring Salta. Walking distance to everything. The hotel
itself is clean and comfortable, if a bit gloomy. As it is an old colonial building, there are no windows to the outside - only to the interior courtyard. But the air conditioning worked so we were comfortable enough. Staff is helpful and friendly. Breakfast is excellent and generous.
The hotel is clean, and quiet with the room on the back with free parking. The location is super and right in the city centre. Staffs are excellent and accommodating, special thanks for Noelia for her help. In addition, they can change dollars to pesos with close to blue rate . We stayed the hotel twice and both times are excellent. Highly recommended.
A very cosy place in a nice quiet neighbourhood, very close to everything you need in Salta and not overcrowded at the same time. The staff was amazing, they let us stay downstairs in the hotel after checking out on a boiling hot Sunday day which literally saved our lives and let us continue our journey with some energy left. My recommendations 🙏🏼
Excellent boutique hotel in a central, yet quiet location, which is notable, because traffic in Salta is noisy and fierce. The ample breakfast is served in a handsome room; it comes with a lot of choices including an excellent ham and cheese omelet. The staff is friendly, helpful, and attentive.
Very very good location and all the staff were very helpful especially Abel. Great breakfast selection (better than all the other 4 hotels we’ve stayed in so far). Ambiance inside the hotel was relaxing and quiet. Will definitely stay in this hotel again when we come back.
This is a lovely little hotel in the center of town with very comfortable beds and white clean sheets and towels. Nice helpful staff. We were happy to discover they had an elevator! We would definitely stay here again!
This was my favorite stay in all of Argentina, the place is absolutely gorgeous and very comfortable. It has been remodeled with attention to all the details, the hosts are absolutely delightful!
beautifully furnished , good location and great staff. the team at reception saved us after hertz would not accept our card for a rental . lovely stay . highly recommend if you staying in Salta
I would really recommend this place. The staff has been extremely professional and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is really well located, close to a cute little park.
Excelent location in the heart of Salta ... easy access to the Plaza, shops, and restaurants.
Staff were very friendly and check in was easy.
Lots of breakfast choices.
Great location near the square, restaurants and shops.
The hotel is very modern, comfortable, very clean, appealing, very friendly and helpful staff.
I absolutely love it
Everything was fine. I paid the exact amount that was advertised with no nonsense unlike most places in Argentina. This honesty is noticed here. Thank you!
