We arrived at 9.30 at night after a long day of traveling, just needed a shower and bed. It was 5 minutes in a cab from the airport. It was clean, tidy, had a restaurant quick to check in. We were picking a rental car up the next morning it was less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Perfect. We would stay here again.

Incredibly overpriced, overall mediocre service, features and facilities. Average quality food, nothing outstanding. Overall, the vacation in Portugal was a waste of time and money. Would have been fine if the prices were not jacked up by 100% over a few years ago. Find a better place to spend your money.

Porto is a wonderful city, but was a bit overrun by tourists on my most recent trip... much more than I remember from prior trips. Try to avoid the busy travel season, if possible. Also, make sure to take a day trip to the Douro Valley.

There is a lot of emphasis put on Porto and it is lovely.
There is a lot of emphasis put on Porto and it is lovely. It is worthy of a 1/2 day trip to grab a taste of the various sardines and local seafood at the market; book your ticket early to see Livraria Lello; cruise the riverwalk area and take a short port tour if that is your interest.
It is easy to walk around Porto and driving was not an issue. The market has an abundance of local delicacies to try-sardines in a variety of flavors for 1E or purchase fresh seafood, mushrooms and herbs to go with the made on sight pasta to cook later. The Livraria Lello bookstore was the most uniquely wonderful bookstore to browse. They have created small easily portable books of the classics in a variety of languages for a truly special souvenir for the book and Harry Potter enthusiast. On way to the river, stop by the train station to absorb the history glazed into the azulejo tiles--fascinating artwork. At the end of the day, a casual walk along the river and a snack while enjoying the view is perfect. OR---take the last port tour of the day at Burmester, walk over the bridge and then relax along the river with a snack to soak up the port.

This was my second trip and loved it more.
This was my second trip and loved it more. So easy to get around and it has a more relaxed vibe than lisbon. We did the boat trip up the Douro to Regua and the following day we just walked and had lunch at Fladgate Taylor's Port House. What an experience. Using public transport with buses and metro is so easy and felt safe.

It was in a good location on a popular street (the Magestic Cafe, the tiled church, etc) with lots of shops down the street below and a few good restaurants nearby. Also easy to get to the Sao Bento train station where you can exchange foreign currency and opposite where all the tours left from. I liked the size - not too big and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast bar was well stocked and the pastries yummy. One night there was a disturbance with a family that stayed there - they were very noisy and disturbed me but only the one night.
It was my favourite Stay on our trip through Portugal! It felt like an Oasis in the middle of the city, and when you're at the Hotel you can't really believe how close you actually are to the city centre. The garden and the pool really gave it a very special and calm vibe. The staff was also very nice and super helpful and made us feel very welcome.
There's a wine bar right outside the venue with excellent wines and a cool atmosphere.
I would definitely return and recommend this place 100%.
This Hotel is perfect if you want a quiet and cheap place.
The room and the toilet are really spacious and clean.
Is in a good position, easy to find and you can reach the city canter by walk!
The owner of the Hotel - Miguel - is one of the kindness person I met during all my trip in Portugal.
When we arrive he gave us a little map where he signed some good tips for us and was always available for our need.
Super recommandable !
Our stay at Casa do Cativo was by far the best place we stayed during our trip to Portugal -- including a five star hotel in Lisboa.
The staff was so accommodating and friendly! We were located close to lots of sightseeing, good food, and the metro/train stations. The room was a wonderful oasis during our trip, and I can't recommend this spot enough. I will definitely stay here again on future trips to the area.
Amazing breakfast (traditional Portugal food, you won´t be able to finish all this food), lovely stuff and really beautiful house,. You can see that the owner do everything for comfort of his customers. It looks like the owner doesn´t care for money just dreamed to have a lovely hotel that will exceed your expaxtations and his dream came true. Honestly really cute.
Just a huge room compared to our previous accommodations during our trip through Portugal. Very spacious bathroom, there's a fridge with a snack bar, and a kettle with a selection of tea and coffee provided by the hotel.
A very good European breakfast is in place.
Overall, a worthy hotel.
An amazing little boutique hotel with beautifully appointed rooms in a central location. The hotel manager and host is the best host I had on
My entire European trip, she was so helpful and it felt I was staying with friends or someone I know. This is more than a 10/10 experience.
Maria and Ricardo were very gracious and helpful hosts. Staying at the Palace Museum was a fantastic and fun experience - beautiful building and superb location. Had some of our best nights sleep in Portugal at the Palace Museum. Would love to return some day!
Great hotel in Porto, so quirky with all of the bumper cars and memorabilia all around the hotel. The reception staff were super friendly and so helpful. Breakfast was really good but the beds weren't the most comfortable during our stay in Portugal.
It looks like the whole building has been completely renovated. You have a modern apartment in the old town. During my stay in Portugal, it was the best room I booked. My wife and I felt very comfortable and enjoyed staying there.
The staff was very friendly. They were able to create a social experience at the hostel which was the best of any from a dozen hostels I stayed at. Portugal is known for friendly people, and this hostel exceeded expectations.
Everything about the stay was great. The room was very comfortable and the location was perfect. The check-in and check-out process were extremely easy. The bathroom was bigger than what I saw in other hotels around Portugal.
I went for 10 days in portugal .
I went for 5 hotels all over. this one was the most expensive per night and the lowest quality .
I thought im gonna finish the trip in the best hotel and found the opposite.
The staff was amazing - particularly Luis, Luisa, and Sam. They all went above and beyond to make our stay at Guest House Douro the best of our 2 week vacation in Portugal. And, you cannot beat the location!
It was extremely comfortable for the 3 of us. One of the cleanest properties we’d been in Portugal. The owner gave all the instructions for us to get in our apartment which was appreciated.
Fantastic hotel with modern amenities. The rooms are the most spacious I've had in Portugal. Hotel staff was super friendly and helpful. Check-in process was a breeze. 10/10
Good location, friendly staff. Buffet breakfast (including made-to-order eggs if desired) was excellent. Best shower we had in the five hotels we stayed at in Portugal.
The hotel was clean, modern, and had very flexible in room temperature regulation (AC, heat, etc.). By far the best hotel we stayed in during our trip to Portugal.
