Red Lion Hotel by Greene King Inns, hotel in Banbury

This historic coaching inn dates back to before the English Civil War. Just 3 miles from Banbury, there is a traditional bar, a restaurant and rooms with free Wi-Fi overlooking the village green.

Perfect location for attending a wedding up the road. Walkable back at night. Lovely friendly staff, beautiful room with character and fantastic bathroom. They were also great at accommodating me for lunch and breakfast as a Coeliac.

Banbury Wroxton House Hotel, hotel in Banbury

Set in the beautiful honeystoned thatched village of Wroxton, this privately owned award-winning hotel is 18 miles from the historic Stratford-upon-Avon and 21 miles from Warwick Castle.

Felt cute cottage like but actually was like a Tardis. The shower was great and the bed comfortable although I had a superior room the bed was just a standard double!

The Lismore Hotel, hotel in Banbury

Situated in the historic market town of Banbury, The Lismore Hotel is an impressive Victorian building with a restaurant, and free parking.

Nothing! The room stank of gloss paint - it was overpowering. The bed was ok, however the linen was “brand new” and still had the manufacturers dressing on it. The bathroom had a lock on the outside of the door, but, importantly , not one on the inside of the door. The mirror was suspended by string, was heavy, and if dislodged would have caused serious damage. There were no net curtains, to provide some privacy at ground floor level. The television didn’t work. The only light switch in the room meant having to switch off, by the door, and then blindly find your way to bed. There was no catering, no breakfast, and no evening meal. The man on the desk was very rude and not helpful, or interested. To be charged £120, for this lack of any hospitality, is an insult and a disgrace. The “hotel” should be closed until such time as it is able to provide any hospitality. The description on booking.com, is absolutely and totally misleading. We were advised £100 and then billed for £120, adds insult to injury. And it makes our faith in booking.com, severely tested, and in doubt for any future bookings. There are many other booking agents.

The Deddington Arms, hotel in Banbury

The Deddington Arms is a 16th-century coaching inn and award-winning restaurant situated in the medieval village of Deddington, just 10 minutes’ drive from Banbury. It offers rooms with Sky TV.

The property were really nice , we didn’t end up in the room we paid for , due to someone been in that room , the receptionist were so lovely and could not apologise enough. The room she moved us to were nothing like I had booked on booking.com . I asked to be moved as I were definitely not paying £105 for that room . We were moved to another room this were not as nice as the pictures I were then to be told they are refurbishing these rooms .It were ok I will say it were clean bathroom needed updating but would not really paid £105 if I had seen this on the pictures. I will say it’s a lovely place , the food in restaurant were lovely and the breakfast were outstanding, really good choice. Staff really lovely could not do enough for you . Would stay here again but hopefully next time get the room we booked 🤞🙈

Charming hotel located in a small village of thatched cottages. We only stayed one night as a stop-over on our way to see other parts of the UK. I did not research the area to see what was near by for those who may want to stay more nights. Loved the decor and had a lovely outside garden area to relax, and enjoy drinks or meal. Food was very good, reasonably priced and friendly service. Dinner service was a bit slow however.

Banbury itself is not the greatest spot (I used to live around the area for many years myself before moving away) however, there are so many other places to visit it doesn't matter. Banbury is excellent for grocery shopping with all tastes catered for and a range of supermarkets from Lidl up to Waitrose. Enjoy !

Banbury has a good shopping retail park called Gateway which is a drive away and on a bus route. Town centre has lots of cafes, a few decent pubs and cocktail bars. Not sure about restaurants in the town but travel a few miles out of town , you’ll find some good pubs/ restaurants. Lock29 in the shopping precinct is vibrant and a good choice of foods on offer by different vendors. Behind the precinct is the Banbury canal with a few food outlets, cinema and pub.

Came back for a family visit. I was born here. The town has grown, and along with it, the traffic, which is very heavy, but I suppose that comes with growth.. So many beautiful places to visit all within an easy drive of Banbury make it a n ideal location to stay. We found great places for evening meals, light afternoon snacks, in fact so many we were amazed.

We were using Banbury as a base to visit relatives and did not explore Banbury in depth, so cannot give an authoritative view. It is actually a good base to visit places and is well positioned off the M40. (we moved on to a planned trip to Straford upon Avon after the 3 nights stay)

We very much enjoyed our one night stay at the Stag's Head. The location is lovely. The outside areas are greatly enhanced by lots of lovely planted pots. It has a Mediterranean feel. I had chicken Souvlaki and my husband Lamb Moussaka. Both were delicious. We also enjoyed our continental breakfast in the attractive dining area. The staff were excellent, the owner taking the trouble to chat to all guests. If you want a quiet break in a rural spot complete with a historical church at the top of the road this is it!!

The location was excellent, it was peaceful with pleasant views of the Peoples Park and a bowling green (apartment block right next to these). The shops and restaurants of Banbury were only a couple of minutes stroll away, through the Park. A petrol station just round the corner. Places of interest and other towns/cities not far away. The apartment was new and modern, good kitchen area. Our host was easy to contact and anxious that our needs/issues were addressed & took note of these.

The location with lots of parking behind the hotel is perfect for walking to explore Banbury. Our high ceiling bedroom with large beams was very nice. The bathroom was very good with a good shower. The breakfast was very good with continental and full English on offer. We were shown a secret panel in a room that had a staircase which let upstairs-as this is a listed building the inside cannot be changed. The building is like stepping back in time.

Easy to find, good parking area at rear of property, met by pleasant lady who explained Covid precautions whilst in the hotel. Goid sized single room, comfortable bed & nice shower. Slept well both nights with the odd slam of a door by other guests! Chose not to have breakfast as I had to be at Silverstone for motogp round. All in all, a nice place to stay, let down by the missed areas that were dusty.

Sian was an exceptional host! She went above and beyond our expectations. She made us feel like we were staying at a friend's home. She was welcoming and extremely helpful in helping us get to where we wanted to go visit. The room was very neat and clean. Breakfast was delicious!! We felt right at home! We would definitely stay at Avonlea again, if we're in the area again!!

The hotel room was lovely; nice, modern and clean, with good facilities. The hotel also looked the part from outside too, and was situated not too far from the centre of Banbury, meaning we were at walking distance from the town, which was nice. Helen was an excellent host too, very friendly and welcoming. For what we got, the value for money was great as well.
