Hotel is good old style comfort but it’s not the cleanest as the bathrooms in the room and around the hotel are quite bad
The staff are shocking lazy can’t be bothered
With not much personality between them

It was fun to see where author James Herriot (Alf Wight) lived, worked, and wrote. The nearby church where he was married is nice to visit and there are nice shops and restaurants in the village. We ate at The Golden Fleece and had coffee and pastry at a bakery. The train station was about a mile from the village; we walked it, but there are taxis that can be called. The village is very walkable.

Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.
Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town.
A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant!
There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay.
All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!

There were lots of local shops, cafes and a local market at the weekend. The old town centre was very quaint. It wasn't too busy or too quiet. There is a locally run cinema. It is less than 20mins on the train to York. The locals are friendly.
The hotel, although about one and a half miles out of Thirsk, is ideally situated for visiting many of the most interesting sights of this part of Yorkshire. The hotel has ample parking space and the rooms are comfortable, clean and warm. The restaurant is excellent and we had two first class evening meals there. The breakfast was also first class. Without exception, all the staff we met were cheerful and very helpful. The price paid was very good value. We would be happy to stay here again
Maybe the best B and B I've stayed in. Located just down the road from Thirsk race course where I was going. Easy to find on main road but no traffic noise in room. My room was well appointed and the other rooms were well decorated (A bit of Style) The full Yorkshire breakfast was excellent. Amanda the hoist was very helpful for local knowledge. It was so good I extended my stay.
A lovely B&B 2 doors down from James Herriott’s Museum, a short walk from the market square in Thirsk, all set somewhere between the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and the gorgeous North York Moors. Geoffrey couldn’t have been a more gracious and helpful host! Very large nice room, comfortable bed with wonderful linens and many amenities.
The cottage was very clean and spacious. Facilities were excellent. Surrounding area, part of resort, is large and very beautiful. Located very near to Thirsk with large supermarket plus other shops. Great for exploring the Yorkshire moors with many attractions. Very good value for money.
It was as expected for a budget hotel. No frills but the staff were welcoming and helpful. Plenty of free parking. A secure room on the ground floor was made available for us to store our bikes. Just a few minutes drive to Thirsk. The room we had overlooked open countryside.
We enjoyed the warm Yorkshire welcome, the ambience of a friendly small pub hotel; the food was excellent and the little hamlet quiet and peaceful. It was a haven from a very busy week.
beautiful room “Halo suite”. it was fantastic!! the bathroom was the best I’ve ever experienced in a hotel (claw tub, shower, double sink, original looking WC, Fantastic breakfast
Free car parking on site. Easy to use shower. Accommodation shares site with pub that serves food. Convenience store next door. Thirsk town centre within 5 minute drive.
Location fantastic for visiting Thirsk and nearby North Yorkshire attractions. Breakfast was excellent. Geoffrey was an excellent host and nothing was too much trouble.
The location was excellent 5 mins into town centre of Thirsk and really nice pub across the road from the cottage.
Parking right outside cottage was a bonus
The property is extremely well maintained and offered great accomadation. Lovely little quirky bits like the Alice in Wonderland area. Lovely large bathrooms
