It was great to stay in a grand old Fedation style house, which has been loved and cared for and altered by its owner, Roger, to become a comfortable guest house with heaps of character. We loved the innovation and collection of older furniture and memorabilia. Breakfast on the verandah with its gorgeous view was brilliant- and we loved chatting with our host. This was a memorable stay!

The North Otago (base in Oamaru) area is a hidden gem. Penguins, seals, steam punk, cheese factory, crayfish and blue cod at Moeraki, historic sites. And good restaurants in Oamaru and the area (Whitestone Diner -- as long as you like cheese, Fat Sally's, Fishwife, Moeraki Tavern, Hampden Fish shop and others).
We go back regularly and the area rarely disappoints. To enjoy fully you need a car.

It's a really cool town, the victorian precinct is amazing and you can spend hours just walking and admiring the buildings. There's a farmers market on Sundays and a lovely train that departs from the front to Steampunk museum to the penguin colony. It's a short but beautiful ride.
There are sea lions and seals everywhere and it's guaranteed you'll take nice pictures from them 😉

The penguin sanctuary was lovely and we saw penguins during the day in the nests. The evening tour was fully booked so get in early if you want to do that.. The steam punk museum was suitably odd and they were very friendly when we got caught in a downpour and stayed sheltering there while they were closing. Plenty of chance to see seals basking on the foreshore.
The victorian precinct however was just a street - possibly more exciting if you are from New Zealand of Australia but we live in a property older than anything on the street so not really that exciting if you are from the UK or the older cities in the US

A very pleasant surprise, was recommended to stop here by a friend, so glad we did. A quirky place , so much history. The Victorian quarter alone was wonderful. Steampunk also worth a look. Easy to walk around the town too. Ps some hilly streets 😀
Needed to stay the night en route back from Pink concert in Dunedin. Arrived in Oamaru at 1.30am, tired and ready for bed! Opened the door and voila! We were greeted by the warmth of the heat pumps, lights were on ready for us, and the decor was simply beautiful. We fell into the gorgeously presented beds and all - 2 adults and 3 young ones, -and all slept like logs. I feel like making an excuse to go to Oamaru again just to stay there, and have time to really enjoy the harbour views and generous outdoor living area!
Absolutely lovely place to stay - very clean, excellent facilities including a large well provisioned kitchen, very good beds and bed linen, warm with heat pump and wood burner. Very close to town. Very spacious with great dining/lounge area and beautifully presented with art and furniture complementing the home. Excellent host. Thank you Tina - would love to come back to stay when next in Oamaru. Definately 10 out of 10.

The layout was lovely and social. Cosy and welcoming. Beautiful gardens so close to the beach. Shame only spent one night would have loved to have spent more time there. Well equipped kitchen and great decor. Very clean and organized slept like a log. Loved Oamaru too quirky art galleries right up my street. With good selection of restaurants 10 mins away. All good 👍
Creative hotel with all needs met. Good location and close to not only "the history" of the community, but also good restaurants close by (and they give LARGE portions.....we split our Blue Cod meal!!!). The hotel really is unique with all the variety of wallhangings and parking was not a problem.
Perfect location. Handy to everything as long as you have transport. Nice room. We had a view of the hill behind Oamaru so the afternoon sun streamed in keeping it warm during the day. VERY good price for a holiday weekend. We wanted to come back but it was booked out. Highly recommend this motel.
The location was good, close to the centre of town. It was just a good walk to Victorian Oamaru which was a surprisingly good sector to visit with craft breweries and historical stone buildings the the pier.
The female caretaker was lovely. She allowed me to arrive early due to the fact I had a funeral to attend at 1.30pm. WOuld reccommend this for those business folk that commute to Oamaru.
We had a little time to discover what Oamaru has to offer, but being in a walking distance from the "CBD" was a bonus. Nothing outstanding in the room. Generally clean and acceptable.
Clean, comfortable, good shower. Coffee, tea and milk in the fridge. Pretty quiet. very close to the historic district, but not actually in it, but this is a historic hotel.
Great location close to the centre of Oamaru, unit was very clean and the bigger of the 2 beds was nice and comfortable. There was a heat in the room which was good.
I love Oamaru.
