If you have no need for the beach, then La Fortuna is excellent. However, if want to visit a beach, it's up to you if a 3 or 4 hour drive is worth it for the Hot Springs. We liked the waterfall repelling, spent half a day at the rope swing, major highlight of the trip, didn't spend a lot of time in town, loved the Fortuna waterfall, didn't prefer the free hot springs. Fortuna was lots of fun. We went to hike at Mistico Arenal hanging bridges and visited the Don Olivo chocolate farm. They were both great outings! We also enjoyed local food and the pool at our hotel, Hotel Arenal Country InnWalker - 10Scored 10

Enjoyed the Fortuna waterfall hike BUT beware of the steps…great hike but 500 steps DOWN, then 500 steps BACK UP!😉 beautiful falls and swimming area! Loved our zipline and rappel tour!! (Go Adventures!) And the hot springs across the street afterwards…ALL in the rain!🙃 Loved our hotel Arenal Rabfer! Walkability! Worst: DRIVING, roads, local drivers and scooters!
