I loved this place with its polished wooden floors and old world charm. Bed was comfortable, room was big, bathroom was tiny, staff were lovely and the location, right in town but quiet, was the best.

Big city with a lot of history, restaurants and things to do. The weather is nice during the day, but gets chilli at night and a bit cold in the mornings.
A visit to the hot spings is a must, as well as Chicabal volcano. The city feels safe, and walking in the old center of town after dinner outside is nice. I specially enjoyed visiting the central plaza, Pasaje Enriquez and one of the big bakeries to have one of their famous "Shecas". and don't forget the Cabro beer!

The central park is very beautiful, particularly the cathedral and municipal building. The municipal theatre is a short walk away but is unfortunately closed since the start of covid because they still don't have any events/performances! I highly recommend the restaurant Don Carlos; there are two locations in the city and one in Salcajá. I recommend visiting Laguna de Chicabal which is located in the crater of a nearby volcano. Drive to what is labeled in google maps as "Toritos para la laguna". There they will drive you in a safari style pick up truck to the top of the volcano, at which point you can walk down 570 steps. Don't let them charge you more than 100 Quetzales. There are Mam-spaeking Mayans doing religious rituals there. It is very spiritual down there. I did not have the chance to visit, but I also recommend Fuentes Georginas.

I have been to Xela (local name for the city) several times over 30 years, and generally have liked it very much. This is the largest Maya city in the world, and the culture is quite accessible here. Unfortunately, this is not a good time to be in Guatemala. The pandemic, joblessness, and crushing poverty are taking a toll on the city. Sad. Hopefully things will improve. But presently, I wouldn't recommend Xela for the average tourist.

The Central Park is a must place to visit.
The Central Park is a must place to visit. It has a relaxed and cosmopolitan feel with people sitting watching the world go by and there are also good options for cafes and bars. Go inside the municipal building to see the beautiful gardens but also wander upstairs and see the fantastic rooms to experience the history.
Perhaps not very well signposted or attractive from the outside but do go and see the Museo Ixkik which is in the same place as the railway museum. The tour is excellent and well worth the trip. My only regret is that I didn't spend longer here in this fantastic city and will definately be going back.

It was wrong season, winter, to visit Quetzaltenango.
It was wrong season, winter, to visit Quetzaltenango.
Trip to the thermal pools, Georgina Fuentes, was very good amazing scenery on the way up the mountain of the market gardens.
Accommodation good value for price but we probably needed something warmer for winter.
Small but one of the best equipped places I have ever stayed in. We are talking here a full on apartment with everything you may need. Kitchen, microwave, stove, coffee maker, pots, utensils knives, silverware, dishware glasses of any kind, freezer and a fridge. Also full access to modern washer and dryer. Fast Wi-Fi. Beautifully finished bathroom & bedroom. The bed was ultra comfortable and had a sky view at night!! Ana was a fantastic host! Thank you for everything.
Great hotel and great location, just a block from the main square and from the local market. Price was excellent as well. Room was spacious and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. I needed laundry service and they offered to wash in-house at an economical rate. While I didn't use the kitchen facilities, it was nice knowing they were there. The hotel had a fun, colorful look to the lobby.
This was my second time staying at Hotel Muchá. It's a beautiful place with really lovely staff and tons of thoughtful touches. The breakfast and coffee are great, the beds are super comfortable, and there's plenty of hot water with good pressure. It's a wonderful place to relax and recharge, and I can't recommend it highly enough. I'll definitely stay here again when I'm in Xela.
The location is great, close to the Central Park and close to all the restaurants. The room was very clean and was cleaned every day. Shower was nice and hot, which is a big plus in the Xela cold. The best thing about this hotel however is the staff. Michelle was a great host and was always happy to have a nice chat or to help with whatever I needed. Would definitely stay again.
It was quiet during my stay, but there were few guests. David was friendly and accommodating. The shower got comfortably warm. The shower head has an instant electric heater, you will not get great pressure, but it was sufficient for me. You receive 2 keys, one for your room and one for the hotel's front door; this makes access easy all the time.
The staff was extremely helpful in helping me find a hike and in recommending the best way to travel from Xele. The hostel itself was located only a couple of blocks from the central oaks, it was very clean and comfortable, the kitchen was fully stocked, and free drinking water was available.
Casa Elizabeth in Quetzaltenango.
Perfectly located, comfy clean and secure. The staff are so helpful and the included breakfast options are delicious- try the pancakes you won’t be sorry. There is no heat but it warms right up during the day- ask for an extra blanket!
The place is near the central park in Xela. The hotel was very quiet. No noise. There are some rooms with a private bathroom but not advertised in Booking.com. Anyway. It was a fantasti place to stay.
It has a equiped kitchen and a fridge for my insuline.
The hotel has some nice rooms but unfortunately I wasn't given one of them. My room was dark and freezing. It had a frosted window and faced corridor. The room and bathroom were large but grimy.
The staff were very friendly. The location is central.
the place is perfect to rest after a long travel. it's literally like a big casa. everything is clean and having literal beds instead if bunk bed is a plus. and i should not forgot to mention. Teresa is the best 😍
Very friendly people, beds were plenty in each room; we were 5 and could've easily all fit into one room but instead took two. Place was very clean and comfortable. We just parked our car in front of the hotel.
The style of the hotel is very cool, friendly with all the plants and colorful paint and the view from the stairs. Nearby ample parking. Huge springy bed, good for active couples.
This is an older hotel, the pool is not heated, parking is a nightmare, room service and restaurant hours are limited, bar service is terrible, there are too many steps to climb.
A great, comfortable little hotel with a good breakfast, hot water and only a few blocks from the central park. We enjoyed our stay and it was very good value for money.
The hotel is very centrally located. All the rooms look into a beautiful and green patio. The room and furniture is a bit old, and definitely need an upgrade.
