The Sophistication Behind Supercars
A foodie heaven, affluent Modena is also a petrolhead paradise, as Italy’s most prestigious supercars are crafted in and around the city. The three-pronged Maserati logo proudly marks their Modena headquarters, while a museum in Cittanova to the west houses vintage vehicles.
Lamborghini produce their distinctive V8s in Sant’Agata Bolognese, while the most famous of them all – Ferrari – has turned the nearby town of Maranello red. The church bells even ring every time their F1 team wins!
Enzo Ferrari’s former home is now a Modena museum, while a theatre is named after another famous resident: Luciano Pavarotti. The most famous export is balsamic vinegar and Villa San Donnino offers wonderful tastings, and local tortellini and lambrusco are served up in pavement cafes and bars.
UNESCO World Heritage-listed Piazza Grande is a cobbled square part-lined with the porticoed town hall. Opposite is the 12th-century, white-marble cathedral which is overlooked by the Ghirlandina belltower.
A few streets away, stately Palazzo Ducale is home to the Italian Military Academy, but was once inhabited by the powerful Este family after they fled Ferrara. Some of their Italian art collection is displayed in the Museum Palace, alongside archaeological collections. Cozy feel in the Center—cobblestones, porticos, Mercato Albinelli, Enzo Ferrari Museum, incredible food, particularly Uva d’Oro restaurant (went to dinner there twice as it was so enjoyable) and Sant’Agostino three times for late afternoon aperitivi.

This was a really lovely city with an extensive pedestrian town centre. The Duomo is a highlight, the covered market is charming (it re-opens in the evening with a variety of what seem like pop-up restaurants) and the very grand town hall was worth a visit. You are spoilt for choice for restaurants - we liked Stallo Pomodoro and Da Danilo for dinner- both had outside terraces, and for lunch, Aldina, a very traditional no frills trattoria on the first floor near the market. Really a treat, Modena deserves to be better known. A beautiful and walkable city, with magnificent food, good and variegated shops, and did I mention the magnificent food? The Galleria Estense is an excellent museum (with all information in Italian and English). Absolutely loved Modena, so much to see and do. Ferrari museum in Modena was excellent, next to the train a a bus station, absolutely loved Luciano Pavarotti museum, quick cab ride there. Great to see the balsamic vinegar centre, small town with so much to offer! Highly recommend!

Everything is perectly clean and there is also a beatiful garden in which the guets can spend a very relaxing time. The hotel is really close to the center of Modena and to the main routes. The owner, Roberto, is very kind, always available to help his guets. Moreover, he offered us a free tour of the vinegar factory, part of the property. He explained us very in detail how the original Aceto Balsamico di Modena is made. Really interesting. We will surely come back to Villa Matildis!

Andrea helped with all tours , drivers and was always there to greet us with a smile .Room was big and comfortable . Breakfast was delicious with many options . The bar was perfect for appertivo and snacks . Modena was lovely and will definitely be back .

We later moved the car to the street in front of the hotel the next day. The hotel was located within walking distance and at a very close location to Modena centro. Valentina was extremely helpful and very friendly and spoke English very well. We highly recommend this hotel.

It was easy to find hotel on arrival due to clear directions from Hotel - needed due to the restrictions for cars entering the inner city limits...access is via a certain street only. Parking was possible in the hotel garage which is in same street. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment upon that.
