Dublin during the day seems to be a safe enough city. At night, it becomes a different place. There are no visible police except when driving with their sirens on. Drug use and homeless people are sleeping and hanging out everywhere. The lighting along the river is dim. The tents pop up and according to our guide are people who are illegally living in the country. I would not go out at night alone. There are many wonderful parks and museums to see. The Botanical Gardens is beautiful. The Gravedigger's Pub next to the cemetery is great for lunch. Anthony Bourdain had their coddle, as did we. Dublin is a great city for sights and culture. Plenty of eateries and pubs with entertainment. There are always events on (we were there to see Eric Clapton) which are remarkably well organised. We ate at Rockets on the shores of the Liffey and it was just the typical American Diner experience.
