Location was perfect for walking to the Seal Colony along the path and the beach . The front Desk hours were very limited and the breakfast left a bit to be desired . But the location and the quaint courtyard make up for its downfalls.

Enjoyed the whale watching tour - the day was reasonably calm so no one was seasick thank goodness. Staff were informatiive and shared the story of the whales and dolphins. The map showing us the travel route was very helpful to understand the trnech and which direction and area we were headed to.

Kaikoura is a 2 hr drive from our home, so we regularly visit for long weekends. It's a special part of NZ where people and nature can interact. There's something special about how the mountains meet the sea. And of course the fresh seafood is spectacular

WhaleWatch trip was very good.
WhaleWatch trip was very good. Great cafes: Flo and Co has excellent coffee. Sime's Kitchen had great breakfast and lunch - vegan choices were delicious. Tipsy Foodies also recommended. Southern Paua shop and factory highly recommended - amazing range of jewellery, carvings and gifts. Some exquisite pounamu too. Best place to buy gifts in Kaikoura!!
Novel Findings is a great bookshop and homewares shop - don't miss it!
Loved the Ngāi Tahu artworks beside the highway, murals on the railway bridge and buildings. It's really worth checking the "Neat Places Kaikoura" website - lots of great suggestions for cool places and things to do in Kaikoura.

Communication from our host was excellent from the clear and concise directions to pick the keys up, to the welcomed text following up with us during our stay. The Host was excellent.
The cottage has brilliant access to the beach, which allowed nice walks. Such a wonderful location we enjoyed the picturesque scenery each night.
Accommodation was as described, and we all enjoyed a comfortable night's sleep.
We would recommend anyone considering this place as your Kaikoura getaway to take the opportunity.
We stayed 4 nights at Cubby House and it was hard to leave. Leanne & Richard are excellent hosts, friendly & knowledgeable of the area.
Cubby House is cozy, quirky & filled with everything you need for your stay - kitchen & bath amenities, games & comfort.
The distance to Kaikōura is easy and looking out the windows you can see the ocean & mountains.
We had a wonderful stay here and would not change a thing.
We one hundred percent recommend Cubby House! Thank you.
The front desk staff was kind, and helpful. The night time manager was intelligent and smart! He helped me with hot water for tea!
Clean place with good pamphlets. Room was nice! With window, enough pillows!
The place is safe and near a bakery with amazing apple short cake! Kaikoura bakery. Several good places for fish and chips!
Bathroom was clean and shower had hot water. Kitchens functional!
Loved my stay here! Thank you!
This is a home for the elderly or disabled. The lady running it didn’t seem to understand what to do. No WiFi and despite me asking again the lady running the place had no clue how to resolve the problem. In the end we didn’t stay, we moved to another hotel, that is how poor it was. It states that the hotel is in Kaikoura, it is NOT, it is several kilometers away n the middle of a residential area. We were VERY dissatisfied.
Nikau Lodge is a lovely place to stay in Kaikoura. Karen, Mick and Jaz go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The cooked breakfast in the morning was superb, as was the location. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean with an amazing view of the mountains. The best hotel / bed & breakfast that I’ve stayed in in recent years :-)
This has to be one of the nicest well looked after motels we have stayed at in awhile. It smelt fresh from the moment we walked in. The owners are super lovely and really helpful with everything you need and about the area. Comfortable units with comfortable beds. We definitely want to come stay again.
Excellent place to stay, new management, the owner is very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are spacious, super clean, had everything we needed. We had a courtyard view, nice courtyard. We will definitely make it the place to stay whenever we go to Kaikoura.
The location was great, but it was somewhat hard to find. This is a full on hostel that happens to have a couple of private double rooms. The location in the morning was spectacular! Near the beach and views of the Kaikoura Mountains with snow caps!
Lovely motel right on the foreshore. Pet friendly so lots of people with dogs and the beach in front of the property was dog friendly. The room was clean, tidy and fully equipped with what we needed. The bed was comfy too.
Gorgeous studio, just like on the pictures. Very smooth check-in, and very close ride to the main street and promenade. We absolutely loved Kaikoura, wished we stayed longer!
