Launceston is a relaxing town with plenty of well...
Launceston is a relaxing town with plenty of well preserved early Australian colonial era buildings which gives it a nice old feel like Ballarat or inner Sydney.
In comparison,
Melbourne has largely replaced its 1850's gold rush architecture and slower pace of life from the 1800's with hideous steel and glass towers and grid lock traffic.
Launceston makes a good base for before and after completing the challenging Overland Track hike in Alpine Tasmania. It is a pleasant place to walk around for half a day.
We found some places to eat
with acceptable/ affordable versions of food from Singapore and other
East Asian restaurants( albeit tailored to the largely white Anglo local population's palates ).
You won't get an authentic Japanese Soba Noodles meal !!.So trust me on this one, because I know.
In Launceston on weekdays trekkers can easily obtain necessary outdoor gear supplies , such as: attire; freeze dried meals ;stove fuel and spirit burners( The latter two items are banned on airlines) for multi day independent bushwalking and hiking in Alpine Tasmania .
The airport is a 30 minute taxi ride from the town centre.

Being a city person, Launceston was a lot quieter than expected. There aren't many shops/restaurants around but enough.
If you are into nature, hiking and camping, then Launceston and its surroundings is the perfect goldmine. We loved Cradle Mountain and the endless hikes it offered.
There are many quaint little coastal towns to explore too up north.

There are a lot of short trips from Launceston for viewing other locations of interest.
We did the short river cruise which was very interesting.
Lots of good dining facilities in and around Launceston.
Great motor Museum for car lovers.
Enjoyed our time in the City Park - definitely worth devoting a few hours.
Another location we enjoyed was the Cataract Gorge.
We had a fantastic experience during our stay at this hotel in Launceston. The prime location, just a short stroll away from the city centre, cafe's and restaurants, made exploring and enjoying the local attractions incredibly convenient. The staff at the hotel were not only welcoming but also highly professional, catering to our needs with a genuine warmth that added a personal touch to our stay. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Launceston.
Old Heritage Building refurbished beautifully, so comfortable and relaxing, CLEAN and GRAND. Owners Tom & Bec have clearly made a successful career change from Accounting to Classy Hoteliers, well done and well done to your Staff that obviously work hard to present such a beautiful place to stay. Free gifts are a lovely gesture, complete breakfast and onsite parking a big bonus. Our new place to stay when visiting Launceston, thanks Folks :))
Amazing accommodations in the center of Launceston. Super spacious apartment with all major attractions walkable. We loved the decor especially the world atlas in the dining room and comics. We spent 2 nights here but 1 week would have been better based on how we loved Launceston and the accommodations. Bonus for the secure private parking space. Mal was easy to communicate with and super friendly. Thanks!
The property is well situated to the heart of Launceston and is opposite Boags Brewery and 5min walk to centre of town or the seaport marina restaurants.
The family room was very spacious and serviced a family of 5 with two adult sized teenagers and an 11 year old. the hotel staff were very helpful providing a bit of a guide to Launceston and surrounds and meal venues.
The staff and the beautifully renovated room made our stay. She’s an older hotel, undergoing soft (quiet) renovations; located directly across from the city park … The parking is limited, but the hotel has addressed the need with an additional lot nearby. The restaurant is very popular with locals, so the food must be good. We’d definitely stay again.
Accommodation in the stables at the rear of the property was off the main thoroughfare so there was no traffic noise.
The room was incredibly big, the beds were really comfortable & there was free parking on site.
The location of the hotel is excellent with many attractions & restaurants within easy walking distance.
Launceston is a quiet little town and this hotel is set at a quiet corner yet very accessible. The room was large for the two of us. We could not park at the carpark for our first night as it seems there was an event that day. We managed to park at the hotel for the 2nd night and the parking fee was cheap.
It is less 'hotel' and more self contained apartment accommodation. In saying that, it was a lovely stay however after previously staying at Peppers Silo in Launceston, it is definitely not as luxurious.
I do want to thank Cathy for going above and beyond during our stay always happy and smiling too!
The hotel accommodation is really excellent value for money. The room was clean and comfortable and Mowbray has all the facilities I needed. I have now stayed there three times and am happy to stay there in any future visits to Launceston.
Modern Hotel, just 5 minutes from main pedestrian street. Room are so conformable, king size bed, good pillows. receptionists very helpful with us and they satisfied all my noise requests. this is the place to in once in Launceston
Location was good, staff friendly and helpful. The family size apartment suited our needs for arriving and departing Launceston as a family of 5. The kids enjoyed the pool and spa facilities.
Stay was okay I was born in Launceston Tasmania had to attend a Memorial which was sad and picked The Colonial Motor Inn due to memories - very tired Hotel now I would not stay again
Great location close to the CBD. Roomy 2 bedroom apartment was nice and spacious and well equipped.
