FAQs about hotels in Faro

Colourful, Historic, and Sunny

Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.

Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.

The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.

Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!

Food. Definitely the food. Delicious and at a good price.

Food. Definitely the food. Delicious and at a good price. The city is also nice, great for evening or morning walks. And the Natural Park is great to see. I wouldn't bother with the Castle restaurant, the view is nice, staff is nice, but prices are a bit high and you can't pay by card. Taberna Modesto just next to it was sublime. You don't get the sunset, but the atmosphere is very nice and food is delicious and not as expensive. Plenty of places for morning coffee and breakfast, if you're into that. The Forum Algarve is another good place to visit. Great for shopping and eating and a very nice place overall to spend your day,

The position with wonderful views of the marina and the neighbouring streets is what sold it to me Amazing setting for the rooftop bar and pool and where the meals are available. It is Within 50 yards of many streets packed with Restaurants and cafes All transport bus train and the old city within 5-10 mins walk away Loved watching the storks flying by and nesting in the rooftops beside here . Went on birdwatching trip by boat in the lagoons which was fun.

We normally use Faro as a 1 night stay en route to other parts of the Algarve. However, we may now have more holidays in Faro itself. We discovered the ferry, where for 3.50 Euro you can have a return ticket to Faro beach, which is a great day out. There are so many restaurants all within walking distance, but the standout place has to be Pigs and Cows - a great eating experience. Generally, eating out in Faro has improved immeasurably since the last time I visited (pre-Covid).

Faro is a lovely place for a short getaway.

Faro is a lovely place for a short getaway. I wouldn't stay for more than 3 nights and would probably say 2 nights is ideal. There are plenty of places in the Algarve around Faro which would make it a great starting point before a longer trip to other places. We really liked the shopping mall, the beach was nice but it was windy while we were there. Mostly we spent time in our hotel by the pool enjoying the sun. The food was relatively cheap and good quality, we mostly just ate at restaurants down one street near where we stayed. Getting around was very easy. We'd planned to use the bus but Bolt taxis were incredibly cheaper (even cheaper with a discount code plastered all over the airport) so we opted for that and walking. I probably wouldn't visit again as we've done everything that was on offer but if I did go back, I'd make sure to have a hotel with a pool again as we spent most of our time there.

We chose Faro as it has a short flight time a short transfer from the airport and good weather (we wanted a 3 night break) We weren't sure what to expect as Faro isn't really known as a holiday destination! It is awesome! Beaches, trips, architecture, restaurants, the Old Town, bars, great sunsets and storks! Oh and the rosè is lovely! The bus from the airport #16) takes 20 mins, drops you at the terminal about a 10 mins walk from marina area (dragging cases). We liked 'O Coreta' on the marina, ate there 2 nights and had drinks there as well. Nice vibe, live music, fantastic paella!

Faro seems to be going through a transformation.

Faro seems to be going through a transformation. There were surprisingly alot of houses and some location close to the water which seem to be neglected and not well maintained. If you are looking for a nightlife atmosphere then Faro is not really the place to stay. I think Faro is a good place for arriving (Airport is not too big and getting in and out of the airport is easy) and maybe spending a day there before flying out agina.

From communications prior to arrival, to right throughout the stay, this was a lovely property! Key pick up was next door in a bakery, which also provided a wonderful breakfast! The room was large, bright and spacious and the (shared) bathroom was clean and modern. The kitchen was very well equipped, and there were tables and chairs outside, and in a roof top terrace for al fresco dining! There were plenty of good eating options close by (some recommended by Casa Portugal) and Faro itself was a surprisingly attractive town to visit!

It was really a great hotel, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good, something for everyone, everything made fresh, plenty of variety, in short great! Really recommend it!!! The other facilities such as the infinity pool, indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath and the gym were also more than fine, nicely finished and very clean. From the roof terrace you had a beautiful view of Faro and its surroundings.

A great hotel for short stays, I say that as rooms are very small. BUT, the hotel and rooms are new, fresh and in a great location for touring Faro. We used this hotel for our last night of a two week vacation as it was a 10 minute drive to the airport with a gas station on the way to fill up the rental car.
