Efficient and friendly staff. Splendid views, lovely gardens well tended. Good free parking. Bedroom: excellent bed, good bathroom. Good and varied breakfast included. Hotel keeps improving the installations, as a very old palace is always difficult to change in a instant.
Set in Vila Real, Residencial Encontro has a shared lounge, restaurant, bar, and free WiFi throughout the property.

I liked cozy greetings, welcomed owners and theire cafe with excellent breakfast. Also view from the window and great location in the city center. Interior in the room was like in my grandma house or at the village, so it was comfy

Conveniently located near the main bus station and close to the old downtown. Large appartement with one kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. Everything is very clean and functional. Fernando the host is very nice and helpful. There's one dedicated parking place nearby.
That was excellent trip for two days. I have visited Mateus Palace on first day - beautiful palace with amazing interior and history. There was a cozy cafe and wonderful garden. Even the rain couldn't spoil the day. Had also enough time to have a city walk and enjoy midivial architecture and mountains landscape.
On second day I had a hiking trip near the river with nature and birds songs, water sounds and flowers.
I don't recommend visiting the botanic garden, cause there is nothing interesting outside administrative buildings (they were closed on holidays).
So make your trip and don't forget to greet locals - they are extremely welcomed and open!

The location was the best but you cannot go for walks - the location is best for visiting Mateus. It is outside the town.
The dining room has classical interior but what spoils it is a large tv screen blaring out programmes like in a motorway restaiurant

Breakfast was lovely!
Breakfast was lovely! All locally produced foods, eggs cheese and bread! Fresh orange juice! We had no tv in our room ( some rooms do have tv’s) but this wasn’t a big deal! Would have appreciated another mirror-in the main bedroom as the the bathroom had the only one but again we managed. I had my tablet so accessed everything I needed on that. The honesty shop sold wine beer bread and snacks at vey reasonable prices! Ginas restaurant down the road was great and very cheap

Vila Real is at the top of the mountains in the Douro Region. It has extremely beautiful views, the city is nice and it has a lot of nature around it. You have many restaurants with typical food that are cheap. If you like eating, wine and mountains it's a perfect stay.

Other than a nice central church (Sé) and half a dozen historical buildings which can be seen in a couple of hours, Vila Real is one of the least interesting cities in Portugal, with a very ugly and disordinate built environment. Most buildings from the 70's and 80's with poor design.
The 'must see' item is by far the Palácio MATEUS on the outskirts of the city (in Mateus on the South entrance to Vila Real), an architectural masterpiece and an iconic place full of history and a beatiful setting.

A very interesting and quirky city, lots of character and so many places to explore, an unhurried place, not many tourists , still undiscovered,Great local food and the local market is worth a visit.Lots of lanes and the shopping is fantastic, plenty of little churches, we where surprised . Highly recommend this out of the way place in Northern Portugal.
Great hotel!
Friendly staff
Beautiful relaxing facility.
Great place to take a vacation break or base your Douro stay.
Dining on site was nice
Sparkling outdoor pool with nice loungers.
Spa for very low add on price has sauna, steam & indoor pool that overlooks the outdoor green space.
Comfy well designed common areas too
Free parking is easy, its dedicated to hotel.
Highly recommend!
I'd love to stay here again .
The location and the customer support exceeded our expectative ! The staff is great and you'll get and amazing experience that you won't forget. The rooms are very good and you won't miss anything that you usually find are good hotels.
You'll get to the center with a 15 minutes walk or taking a bus right in front of the Montanhês, amazing location!
This is a good place to stay any time of the year.
This is like living in a dollhouse, in the sense of a charming, cute, lovely, well cared place. I've stayed in similar places in Ireland and France but this one beats all of them by far, I heartily recommend this place to anyone who wishes for a bit of peace and quiet (yet near a major city) in the beautiful countryside of northern Portugal.
Amazing place with a fantastic view, great service , great facilities , rooms, service. One of the best places you can stay in the Vila Real area , don’t hesitate. Beyond friendly managers, go over the edge to make you feel at home. Great experience with our kid there. We loved the included breakfast & very relaxing place!
This is a very comfortable big room in the town centre of Vila Real, near restaurants, the river, and stores. Perfect if you want a quiet space as well. The room is big, and the mattress is very good. Because the rooms are on the top floor it's very quiet during the evening, you don't hear any noise from the streets.
Beautiful place with breathtaking view! The owners are really warm, warm people. I recommend to try porto wine which is amazing!
The Villa is big, enough space for even group of ten. Great big kitchen with massive supplies, neverending wood for fireplace and pool for Hortex days. Perfect place to stay!
Was more the vibe of an hotel
Beds were amazing; good matrassen, great blanket and with a curtain
We had our own bathroom
There was air-conditioning
Well equipped kitchen
Location is in the middle of the centre
I saw the girl who cleaned in the morning even cleaning all the cutlery that wasn't used
The town of Vila Real was not worth visiting but the surrounding sites are incredible we used it as a hub to see other places. Casa Agricole is very special and you do not even feel like you are in a city. It is an enclave of several beautiful buildings surrounded by well maintained gardens.
Beautiful hotel. We were warmly welcomed by the owner. Common areas and guest wing is beautifully designed next to the main old house. Huge bathroom with jacuzzi. Small balcony for smokers. They serve breakfast right next to the pool. Would definetely recommend it.
The apartment is located in the heart of Vila Real and is perfect to visit town. It was spacious, beautiful and comfortable, as well as very clean. The weather was quite cold outside but the apartment was warm and cozy. Communication was easy and quick.
Hotel with an amazing view of the vineyard and mountains and valley. Had everything we needed ( except shampoo/conditioner in bathroom). Breakfast was great and property was clean.
Staff/hosts were very friendly
We stayed at this location due to an indoor pool. Not the case since it wasn’t open. I could have stayed at a cheaper hotel. I have stopped payment until I hear from someone. 203-910-1063
The host is friendly, helpful and informative! The unit is comfortable has everything needed with big windows of great view of vila real. Definitely will come back again.
