Practically everything! The location was really close to the main Nagano station, and there were a few convenience stores downstairs/nearby, including a Don Quijote. The property also offered many amenities, like hair wax/treatment, hair iron, Apple chargers, which were more than what I have seen from other properties at this price. The room was also relatively spacious and well-designed for a small sofa area that fits my luggage. The staff were also extremely helpful and efficient with my luggage delivery request. They were also quick to use a translation device when there was a Japanese line I didn't understand, so language barriers were not really an issue. Wish I could have stayed here longer!

While Nagano is best known outside Japan as a Winter...

While Nagano is best known outside Japan as a Winter Olympics host city and a favourite place for people to ski in Winter, it is also the site of the Zenkō-ji Temple. As one of the most important Buddhist sites in Japan it is extensive and beautifully landscaped. Despite the large number of visitors we felt calmed each of the times we walked through the grounds. You can also purchase a ticket (¥1,200) to climb the Niōmon Gate, visit the main Hondo and walk through the dark tunnel, turn the giant storehouse that contains a complete set of sutras, and see the museum in the war memorial pagoda at the rear of the complex. Nagano itself is a nice prefectural capital surrounded by forested mountains. In the good late autumn weather it was beautiful and we enjoyed wandering the small streets finding little restaurants and stores, and looking at the interesting mix of old and very new architecture. We didn't visit any of the popular museums and galleries as after almost 4 weeks in Japan we were "museumed out", but did stumble across the Nishinomon-Yoshinoya Sake Brewery which is well worth a visit, and had lunch at Unaginoyado Sumiyoshi - a well-regarded unagi restaurant. There are also lots of scenic and nature locations to visit in the surrounding hills, but you need more time than we had to enjoy them. Overall, Nagano was a bit of a surprise package and being just 1½ hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen I would recommend a visit as part of any Japan itinerary.

Many different activities available in the area - cultural, historical, and natural. The Togakushi Shrine Pilgrimage and Kamikochi National Park were my favorites. Excellent souvenir shopping on the street in front of Zenkoji Temple. The city is very walkable. The train from Tokyo provides easy access. During hot summer months it is cooler in Nagano.

The owner made an effort to explain house rules well. English signs were clear, too. And he prepared travel guides. Non-Japanese should appreciate such things and be respectful. The man probably depends on this for income, and we get it for a VERY cheap price, unlike others that charge a lot so don't expect hotel-level accommodation. Travelers shouldn't behave like entitled guests. The bed was cozy. Location was a good walking distance to Nagano station and same block as a nice grocery store. All you need is there.

No frills hotel with the essentials. Comfortably got the job done for us, just not a relaxing vacation sort of place. Accessible location from the train station and though it's about 30min walking to Zenkoji, it's a scenic walk with lots of stalls and shops after the 15min point. Staff was very kind and accommodating, letting us check-in early because it was pouring outside and giving us towels to dry off. They also stored our luggage for a few hours after check out.

If you want to stay in a comfortable hotel when you are tired from travelling all day and don't want to spend any more time hassling around with transfers and luggage - then stay here. It's directly connected to the station, there are small nice restaurants nearby and the staff are helpful. Rooms are comfortable and a good size for Japan. They have onsite parking if you have car.

The hotel is right opposite to the train station, and from my window, I can see long-distance buses waiting at bus stops to pick up travellers going to Habuka (ski resorts) and Kamikochi (mountain highland for trekking). The room (at 8th floor) is generally quiet throughout the whole night. You can have a spa bath at level 2. Next to the hotel is a 7-11 that opens 24h.

Perfect ryokan in remote Japan. The experience was beyond expectations. The shrines in the area are superb! Everything was perfect and the hostess was very helpful. The food is amazing (but there's too much!)! The ryokan can be easily access by car from Nagano. It is a 35min scenic drive. I suggest nissan-rent-a-car right next to the train station. Very central location, literally a couple of minutes on foot from train station, buses to the main two attractions (Zenkoji and Togakushi) departing from a bus stop right next to the hotel. The hotel itself was modern and clean, rooms were comfortable, not very big but also not the smallest by Japanese hotels standards. Good breakfast.
