The porridge was very good but would have liked some prunes or soft fruit with it. The cooked breakfast was excellent as were the evening meals. Again it would have been good to have had the choice of fresh fruit for pudding.

FAQs about hotels in Harrogate

Sophisticated Victorian Spa Town

The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.

The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.

One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.

Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.

Options on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with spas, cheap apartments near the train station, and guest houses with parking. The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport to the south.

Harrogate is lovely and our only regrets were the food on offer in the hotel restaurant plus the attempt to rip me off when the bill came. And we would have liked a bit more time so as to visit Bettys tea shop

Harrogate is a very pretty town and makes a good base to explore the area. It has lots of good restaurants like Piccolino, The Tannin Level or Oliveta and many great cafés including the famous Betty's. There aren't many sights in the town but it's very pleasant just to walk around and enjoy the architecture and gardens. Harlow Carr RHS Gardens is worth a visit. Historic York is only a 35 minute train ride away and gorgeous Knaresborough only 15 minutes on the same route. Still, you'll need quite deep pockets as everything is at least as expensive as in London.

RHS Harlow Carr is my favourite place to visit and the purpose of my trip. I ate at the Old Swan Hotel where I stayed. Pretty easy to get around although there are a lot of one way streets and sometimes it is tricky to drive down some of them due to double parking on each side as the roads can be quite narrow. I would keep to the main roads next time.

The property is in a safe community location only a 10 minute drive from the town centre. The owners were super helpful and provided a very clear guide on how to locate the property and how to find your key etc. The property itself was decorated immaculately and was exceptionally cosy and felt very homely. Incredibly clean, well maintained and very comfortable. Super modern and a little unusual from your typical nights hotel stay. Would recommend to anyone visiting Harrogate.

The hotel room was excellent all around, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was great too. We only had lunch in the restaurant as we were out for dinner, but the food we had was very good. It was busy in there both at lunchtime and in the evening when we went out, so obviously a popular place to go. For the location near the centre the price was very reasonable too. We will definitely look the White Hart up first for availability next time we visit Harrogate.

Great value for money accommodation for a new years eve stay in Harrogate the studio is around 25 min walk into the lovely town centre where we enjoyed an afternoon in several bars with cold bath brewery bar being a must for anyone visiting. Studio 22 is exactly as advertised nice and modern with everything you need. A great alternative to the hotels in the centre itself that were 3 times the price and free parking on a quiet leafy street a bonus will def stay again

The hotel staff were friendly and did their best to accommodate an early check in for us, which we appreciated. We didn’t have breakfast included and paid for this on one of the days we stayed (£12.50 pp if booked the night before). The food on offer was plentiful and good. The hotel is 5-10 mins from the centre of Harrogate, which is convenient, but quite hilly for anyone with mobility issues.

It was only a fifteen minute walk into Harrogate , passing the railway station on route, which has regular trains into York (40 mins). The property felt like a granny flat attached to the owners property (that’s not a bad thing). Equipped with everything you need, not badly furnished, off street secure parking at the property was a bonus. Overall not bad value for the price 😀

Lovely old grand hotel within a 5-minute walk from Harrogate town centre. Parking is on-site, although administered by Harrogate Borough Council so a charge is applicable. Dog friendly too so even better. We only stayed one night and skipped breakfast so can't really comment any further.
