Loved how peaceful the grounds were. The pool, hot tub and sauna were clean and well maintained.

It was fun to see where author James Herriot (Alf Wight) lived, worked, and wrote. The nearby church where he was married is nice to visit and there are nice shops and restaurants in the village. We ate at The Golden Fleece and had coffee and pastry at a bakery. The train station was about a mile from the village; we walked it, but there are taxis that can be called. The village is very walkable.

Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.
Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town.
A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant!
There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay.
All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!

There were lots of local shops, cafes and a local market at the weekend. The old town centre was very quaint. It wasn't too busy or too quiet. There is a locally run cinema. It is less than 20mins on the train to York. The locals are friendly.
The hotel, although about one and a half miles out of Thirsk, is ideally situated for visiting many of the most interesting sights of this part of Yorkshire. The hotel has ample parking space and the rooms are comfortable, clean and warm. The restaurant is excellent and we had two first class evening meals there. The breakfast was also first class. Without exception, all the staff we met were cheerful and very helpful. The price paid was very good value. We would be happy to stay here again
The breakfasts were delicious. I had yogurt on both mornings. The salmon with avocado and then had bacon and poached egg next day.
The food was presented beautifully. You could even sit outside (weather permitting) and enjoy the lovely garden setting and listen to the birds
The location is quiet spacious and facilities are of good quality.
Not far from the interesting town centre of Thirsk.
Would recommend this accommodation and would go again.
The apartment was really great value for money. It was clean and spacious with everything we needed for our overnight stay. It is right in the middle of Thirsk town centre with shops, bars and restaurants only a couple of minutes away. We we given very easy and clear instructions on how to gain entry to the property and also given a free parking permit for a space only 3 mins walk away from the apartment.
The location - just yards from the James Herriot Museum and a short walk to the town centre/marketplace.
The house itself - it's lovely and charming, I could happily live in it! The beds are comfortable, the shower is excellent and all the rooms have nice decor. The welcome chocolates were much appreciated too! I would gladly stay again if visiting Thirsk in the future.
We loved the location- near Thirsk, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. We loved the accommodations- VERY nice and comfortable. James and Julie are great hosts. We also loved that the cottage was a rehabilitated farm building (amazing job of restoration) and is situated on a working farm. Alf Wight (James Herriot) was actually their vet.
Fabulous, comfortable room and facilities with free parking.
Superb host, Mark and the team are so friendly and helpful and breakfast was plentiful and delicious, even provided a vegetarian option! Comfy bed and lovely hot shower. Easy walk into town and Thirsk racecourse. Great value, highly recommend. We will be back soon thank you! 🤩🤩🤩X
The cottage was cosy, well appointed and freshly decorated to a high standard. Plentiful pots & pans, crockery and cutlery. The garden was pretty with a comfortable covered seating area that wasn't overlooked by neighbours; we were even visited by a very cute hedgehog! The town square is only a couple of minutes walk away.
The room was clean and contained everything we would need for our visit. We loved having exclusive access to the pool, hot tub and sauna. The grounds of the building and the location of the hotel are both beautiful. We visited Helmesley, Thirsk and Northallerton and took a lovely walk around the gardens.
This was an excellent location to serve as our base for exploring North Yorkshire. The cottage is very cozy and we enjoyed the view of the horses and donkeys from our window. As Americans, we really missed having a coffee maker--a cheap pour-over would be a nice addition to the kitchen equipment.
Location in the centre of Thirsk with a private car park is hard to beat. One has to accept that it forms part of a very busy Wetherspoons establishment, however our room was at the back of the hotel totally noise free and security systems in place ensure only guests can gain entry to bedrooms.
Situated in the center of Thirsk close to all amenities. This was our 2nd visit to the Hotel this year and the high standard hadn't dropped and personal attention to detail remains high. This is a typical small hotel catering for the traditional English holiday maker. Breakfast was 10 of of 10.
Lovely staff, easy location to find.
Room was small but had everything you need with nice touches.
We had a meal and drinks, the menu was limited but hosts went out of the way to accommodate our preferences. Food was delicious.
Hugo the french bulldog was an absolute delight for me!😀
We have stayed before and loved the location and the friendliness of the owner. The room was bright and airy, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was amazing. Parking was available and it has easy access to the town centre of Thirsk.
Geoff made sure each of us got exactly what we wanted for breakfast each day. He was a great source of information and local lore. My family and I had a wonderful stay and won’t hesitate to stay there again if we find ourselves in Thirsk.
Breakfast was excellent, good variety to choose from menu. Staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent location right on Main Street and car park , behind hotel.
The property is extremely well maintained and offered great accomadation. Lovely little quirky bits like the Alice in Wonderland area. Lovely large bathrooms
