Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland.
Nice place to stay while visiting sites in North Iceland. We were able to see the Northern lights while there in early October, but our lodging was slightly out of the main city lights. Nice restaurants and easy to walk around. Botanical garden was a very nice place.

Great place for a day trip, or two.
Great place for a day trip, or two. Limited eating options (compared to Reykjavik). The lagoons (Forest lagoon / Myvatn) are worth a visit. There are of course also some nearby waterfalls. There's a fantastic petting zoo which is definitely not to be missed.

Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer.
Nice small city . Surprisingly bug infested in late summer. Wonderful sights nearby. Very few free parking lots . Dettifoss was awe inspiring. There are steam venting sites worth visiting. There are crevasses separating American and European plates you can walk across caves and crevasses where Game of Thrones was filmed . Restaurant 23 is a great fish restaurant

Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland.
Akureyri is a beautiful little town in N. Iceland. Super picturesque, at the base of a fjord. We booked a whale watching tour with Keli Sea Tours and saw humpback whales.
Everything is walkable and there are some great restaurants, especially Strikið, where I had the best piece of salmon I have ever eaten.
The botanical garden is free and beautiful. The kids loved the little Christmas house on the edge of town.
If you are driving the ring road, you must stop here!

We was looking for local food but no one. we could find only pizza, burger, fried chicken restaurant. And we was found food truck which owner is very rude, we not recommend there but anyway bakery at the corner was very good.
Our stay at Hotel Sveinbjarnagerdi was absolutely wonderful. The location is just a 10 minute drive to downtown Akureyri but it feels like you’re in the countryside. The rooms are cozy and clean with a great view of the fjord. Breakfast and the facilities were great! Hop in the hot tub and chill in the sauna! The price can not be beat for what you get. The best part was the wonderful family who owns and runs the hotel. They were lovely and generous like everyone we met in Iceland. Highly recommended.
The hotel is in a very central location which makes it ideal for exploring Akureyri and surrounds... while the room we were given on checkin had a great view of the Fjord, it would have been a little cramped for three nights... we checked with reception and they gave us a great option for a larger room without the view... front desk staff were very helpful with all questions during our stay and restaurant was also good for dinner (though their are many options in the surrounding streets)
Amazing accommodation. The room was elegant with huge windows and a seating area, perfect for hot tea on a snowy day to work on my computer. The bathroom had everything I needed to feel right at home. The location was excellent. One block to the public pools which I visited every night of my stay. Also an easy walk to the harbor, shops, cafes and restaurants. Tea and coffee available all day in the lobby. Breakfast was wonderful and the coffee maker divine.
We were able to checkin 30 min early. And check out very early.
The staff arranged for a very big take-away breakfast as we needed to leave around 5:30 AM. Thanks again for this kind gesture! Much appreciated. We even received lunch :)
We ate at the restaurant. Food was good but a bit pricey. Fush soup with chocolate is an experience I wouldn't try again though.
The room was big with lots of space to stow the luggage. Beds were confortable
+ Lovely comfortable & clean room
+ Very welcoming host
+ Kept our room even though we couldn’t get there for the first night due to a big storm closing the roads
+ Excellent generous continental breakfast
+ Gentleman even helped by shovelling snow for us!
+ Gorgeous views across looking at Akureyri
+ Super quiet
+ Really exceptionally good hot strong shower
+ Close to Forest Lagoon hot spa
Hottub outside, nice view from the breakfast area, overlooking the airports take-off line in the distance, our 3yrs old enjoyed seeing how the snowmachines are working, clearing the snow. There are also lots of games and books in the lobby, which kept him entertained. The cherry on the cake was the tractor clearing the snow in the hotel driveway, driver of which let our son to sit in it
The hotel was right in the town center and everything is within walking distance. There is parking on street and around - for free after 4pm and until 10am on weekdays (super convenient).
The room was large and luxurious and staff was super friendly (TV was not working and they offered us a discount on dinner since we decided to eat there). Food was delicious (dinner and breakfast).
* Really unique setup at the hotel, great ambience and really warm / cosy rooms.
* Really well located for a stay in Akureyri and a short walk to the Main Street for shops / restaurants.
* Super easy check-in / check-out.
* When visiting Akureyri would definitely stay here again, we even got a message saying we had a free room upgrade! Thank you so much!!!
The hotel was ok, overpriced for what it was. Location is good if you have a car as it's not a walking distance to downtown Akureyri but 5 min car ride. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. One great thing we discovered was there is a beautiful park behind the hotel, you can use the trail to get there, can easily spend an hour or two on a nature walk.
Great location with restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Very nice and fun inside with parking right in front. We had the smallest rooms and we managed fine especially since the bathrooms are big and have everything you need. Breakfast was very good at the sister property next door.
Great hotel overlooking the fjord waters with a rural atmosphere. Within a few minutes by car to the city of Akureyi. Great morning breakfast. The room was generous in size and the public areas were a great bonus while relaxing at the end of the day. Owners and staff were great.
Because of Covid we have been given another room in Hotel Akureyri Dynheimar. Because the room was to small for our luggage (inkl. stuff to eat) we asked for a bigger room. Luckily we got an apartment and had a very nice experience there. Thank you so much for your flexibility!
Beds (2 twins) were comfortable. Windows let in good air. Good placement of outlets near beds. Staff was kind. Breakfast was included and consisted of toast, hard-boiled eggs, cheese and crackers, veggies. Hotel was right next to great restaurants and shopping (Icewear).
The breakfast was outstanding. Great selection and there was a steady flow of fresh food. The dinner we had at the hotel restaurant was outstanding too. Very delicious. The best beef I‘ve eaten so far. The bed was good, not to soft and not to hard.
Location was outstanding, in the heart of town, next to restaurants, shops, and at the foot of the iconic church. Breakfast was excellent, staff was efficient at check-in for our large group, and rooms were perfectly comfortable.
it was the best stay we had in Iceland - good breakfast, free coffee/tea all day, nice hot tubs with view overlooking the city. The staff were very friendly, and gave us very good recommendations for restaurants in Akruyeri!
Spacious apartment, located in the center of Akureyri, close to restaurants for dinner and breakfast. Parking on the street free between 4pm-10am; so rather convenient for 1-night stay. Everything is perfect!
This hotel is about 15 min drive from Akureyri, it is a quiet beautiful country side hotel. It offers a good small spa and a hot tub, view tower and good breakfast. I am looking forward staying there again.
View from the hotel room was great. Breakfast spread was impressive. Parking was very convenient. Easy access to Akureyri via car. Room and bathroom were nice, as expected.
