An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture
In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.
Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.
One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.
Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.
Booking.com offers a great variety of hotels, guest houses, hostels and apartments to choose from. Salamanca Airport is 15 km away from the city and is easily accessible by public transport.
Very clean city. Lots of places to eat and chat. People were helpful and friendly. There is a lovely atmosphere in the square and we felt very safe. We watched the streets been cleaned regularly and the local police were very helpful.

Salamanca is a beautiful city with lots of fabulous buildings all within easy walking distance. It also has good restaurants (definitely try Taberna de Libreros) It can be busy when the day trippers arrive but is quieter in the evenings.

Great architecture and friendly atmosphere.
Great architecture and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of bars and restaurants.
It would have been very helpful if menus could have been in English for us as many times we didn’t buy because we didn’t know what we were ordering and the translate app wasn’t good enough at times. Made food ordering laborious and way to difficult at times.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit.
Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing.
It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment.
We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.

If you want to really know Spain: Visit Salamanca.
If you want to really know Spain: Visit Salamanca. I think it is underrated for what it is. Every corner of the city will surprise you with its rich cultural heritage. Brilliantly lit at night, it is perfect for late night tours. The city is safe, people are friendly, food is simply excellent! Didnt get enough out of my visit, will go again!
I wholeheartedly recommend this apartment; if we ever come back to Salamanca, we’ll certainly stay here again.
It's not far from Plaza Mayor, we stayed for 4 nights and everything was within walking distance. However, if you need a bus, you can take one from Avda. Reyes de Espana (less than 10 minutes walk).
A nice, clean apartment. The kitchen was fully stocked, although we only used it for making coffee.
And what we were looking for considering that we were in Spain in February – March, there was enough heat.
This hotel is located on one of the most picturesque streets in all of Salamanca. It is surrounded by palaces and churches from the 16th-18th centuries, everything in a warm sandstone. All the main sights were in easy walking distance, and there were abundant restaurants and bars close by. They let me drop my bags so I could explore the city until my train left in the evening. A great little hotel. I hope to stay there again!
There was no receptionist but the staff were so friendly and flexible with our breakfast arrangements it was a pleasure to be there. The hotel is full of charm and very quirky, also as a wheelchair user it had one of the best disabled showers ever and was beautifully designed. Salamanca is a n nightmare for parking but there was a disabled space just around the corner.
This is a large luxurious hotel located about a 15 minute walk to the old historic district of Salamanca. My room was spacious with a luxurious bathroom that included a bathtub. There was a mini fridge, a large comfortable bed and ample closet space. The hotel had parking in an underground garage for an additional fee. All in all a very comfortable stay.
Eva and Javi the at the front desk are incredible with Eva helping to park our car or Javi helping us to sort out an issue to enter central Madrid. The property is perfectly located near Plaza Major, the Cathedral and the university. The apartments are spacious and the beds are comfortable. There is also convenient parking right beneath the hotel.
We like staying in this hotel when in Salamanca. Its location is convenient close to the Roman bridge, but away from the masses of visitors in the centre. Access and parking are easy, and the hotel, which has just been refurbished, has clean and comfortable rooms, and friendly, helpful personnel. The price-quality ratio is very good.
The staff were very professional, very helpful and very polite at all times. Special thanks go to Alberto, Ivan and Marta. Any issues that arose, they tried to do their best to address.
The hotel is in a convenient location for exploring Salamanca.
The hotel rooms we were in and the common areas were very clean.
The bubble bath in the room with a jet stream was a lot of fun. Location is great, right by the plaza mayor. Hotel is old and May need an upgrade. But is was clean and comfortable. They have access to a parking, a bit pricey but worth booking since parking in the center of Salamanca is a nightmare. Will stay again.
The room was large and very clean and comfortable; we would be happy to stay there again on a future visit to Salamanca. We also liked the very friendly welcome by staff and their excellent dinner recommendations. It was easy to park in the street next to the hotel and just a short walk into the town centre.
Hotel Rector is honestly the best hotel I have ever been to and I have spent many nights in high-class hotels. The combination of the service, the friendly personnel and the very nice ambience makes this a place I will certainly come back to when traveling through Spain.
Everything about this hotel is outstanding, from the exceptional staff who helped us with everything to the beautiful rooms and facilities. The location is perfect for exploring old Salamanca. The beds were as comfortable as clouds. A marvelous experience altogether.
We have used this hotel many times before travelling from north to south Spain, and back. It is very comfortable and clean. The staff are very friendly. It is only a ten minute stroll to Plaza Mayor. Breakfast offers plenty of variety. The room rates are very good.

A decent hotel in a quiet area across the river and short walk from Salamanca's ancient center, the staff were friendly and helpful.
The room was basic and beds comfy.
They do accept pets, so my service animal was welcome in all areas of the hotel.
Good value for money if you are only looking for a stop over motor inn. If you don't drive, it is about 4km walk to the center of the city. Food is reasonably priced. Car park is free (hard to find such a deal in Spain) right in front of the hotel.
Spacious bright apartment with a large terrace. We stayed here for one night on a road trip through Spain and we and the kids felt comfortable here. It would be nice to spend more time here.
I liked the easy check-in and free parking.
The hotel is within the historic heart of Salamanca and the perfect spot from which to amble around this beautiful city. It has a tranquil atmosphere wholly in keeping with the character of this exceptional location.
