FAQs about hotels in San Sebastián

Amazing Coastline and Historical Beauty

San Sebastian is a famous beach resort in the north of Spain with picturesque coastline, vibrant nightlife and amazing Basque gastronomy.

Playa de la Concha is one of the world’s most popular city beaches, ideal for watersports lovers. Rent a surfboard on Zurriola beach or just relax on a cosy lounge chair under your umbrella.

Established as the culinary capital of Spain, San Sebastian features a variety of bars and restaurants serving delicious pintxos (Basque-style tapas), fresh seafood and fine wine. According to Spanish tradition, you should have one tapa and a wine in one bar, then move on to the next bar.

The tree-covered hill standing just across the gulf is called Urgull and offers spectacular views over the bay and city. Situated at the bottom of it, Parte Vieja is the old part of the town where you can mix with the locals and visit some of the city’s most interesting historical attractions.

San Sebastian Airport is located 20 km east, so it's a short journey into the city itself. Booking.com offers a choice of accommodation ranging from luxury hotels to guest houses, apartments and budget hostels.

San Sebastian is a beautiful, historic town.

San Sebastian is a beautiful, historic town. There is much history to learn (we had a private guide for this) along with all the beauty it offers We took the funicular up to the top of Mt. Urgull and walked along the Ondarreta beach from our dinner one night. We could have stayed several more days to go through the museum and just wander through the entire town, not just the Old Town. We were there 3 nights and easily could have added 2 more.

There was a bike ride that finished in the centre the day we stayed so it was very busy which added to the experience. Parking was not easy ,they give you very little room in the parking bays in the underground parking and forget about parking on the streets! We were there on a Sunday. Loads of tapas bars to choose from. I would have liked to shop but not a lot open ,but it was a Sunday after all! Look up , the buildings are wonderful.

There are restraints nearby where you can eat delicious Pinchos, so it was quite easy to get to. It was incredibly quiet from night to morning. Yes, there was no noise at all. I never once felt like I was in an unsafe place. Next time I'll try taking the bus.

San Sebastian is really a great city for views: you have 2 mountains accessible on foot with great views on the bay (concha), the city and the ocean. There is also nice architecture (Art Nouveau), a great basque history/art museum (San Telmo) and a maritime museum with an aquarium. And there is a great beach for surfing (Zurriola). So on the boulevards you can see side by side a surfer with surfboard and a very smartly dressed couple walking toward the Kuursaal.

    Parks and beaches are beautiful.

Parks and beaches are beautiful. Food at some bars and restaurants is phenomenally good! I didn’t have time to visit museums, but I expect they are up to the quality of other aspects of public life. And people on the street and in the bars seemed to be enjoying themselves a lot. (Although everyone seems to love a holiday weekend.)

The city is pretty and clean.

The city is pretty and clean. The food is excellent and varied leaning heavily to sea food. It is easy enough to walk around, there is taxi service for some of the attractions not downtown e.g. the stadium. Let me say, however, it is not as inexpensive as other places in Spain. Food can be pricey, especially some of the sampling meals in the restaurants. My Spanish is pretty okay, but, believe me Basque is not at all similar, fortunately, most menus, etc. are written in Spanish, French and English as well. The people are friendly and will work with you.

Beautifully designed and decorated boutique hotel, helpful and attentive staff. We pre-booked parking as noted in the hotel details and were grateful they parked the car for us, and offered a complimentary drink on arrival. The room was very smart and comfortable, modern and new. The hotel has been ingeniously created out of a very small space, with hidden parking below the building. The location is right next to the old town with 100s of restaurants and poncho bars, and also right next to La Concha beach. Amazing!

The location was superb as we were only a block from the beach. We could walk everywhere once we parked the car a couple of blocks away in the hotel’s underground garage. The front desk experience was great as Daniel, the clerk, was very welcoming and informative with a great sense of humour. Our room was small but very comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was the best! We even had cava to make mimosas! San Sebastián was beautiful—the scenery was spectacular and we really enjoyed the atmosphere in the old town.

Very smooth check in even though we were a bit early. Previously had a room at the rear, this time we had street view which was nice too. A bit more noise, but that is to be expected in Spain, & it was all part of the atmosphere, seeing people at the pavement tables beneath. Location is excellent, its an easy 10-15 minute walk to the bus station. ( bus to Bilbao airport is €17 ), and 7 mins or so to the fabulous old town pinxto bars. Hope to be back sometime soon!

A spotlessly clean, quiet, spacious room in a boutique hotel which is located within 10/15 minutes walk of the old town, promenade and beach. A good breakfast was included in the price and tea/ coffee was available for free in the lobby. Secure parking was available to park our car which had expensive bikes on the back. We arrived earlier than expected but the welcoming, helpful receptionist allowed us to check in early, which was greatly appreciated.

Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice. Staff at the hotel were really friendly and gave us a map and a list of recommendations on arrival. Room was nice but a little bit impractical. We quickly found out after booking tickets to San Sebastian that it was not a cheap city at all for hotels. Pension Ondarra offers excellent value and quality, plus I much prefer to be in this neighborhood where more locals live, but only a 10 minute walk or so to the old town. The check in and access was all really easy, the room was spacious and clean, plus a little terrace to relax on... Would definitely recommend!

Our room was quite small but the location is great - basically it is in the Old town. The small/narrow balcony is the good addition. The parking is near by though it is expensive even with some discount that that provided by the hotel (it is around 20 euro per day) but any parking in San Sebastian is expensive.
